🌍 Advocacy Seminar on Child Rights in the SADC Region: Creating a SADC Fit for Children We are pleased to announce an upcoming advocacy seminar focused on the plight of children within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. This seminar aims to engage SADC member states, the SADC Parliamentary Forum, and Development Partners in prioritizing child rights within the region’s development agenda. Children in the SADC region face numerous challenges, including poverty, limited access to quality education, child labor, and inadequate healthcare. Despite existing international and regional child rights instruments, there is a significant need for consistent implementation and harmonization across member states. Our overall goal is to create a broader awareness about the challenges faced by children in the SADC region and to lobby for the adoption of the SADC Protocol. This protocol will support member states in fostering a SADC that is Fit for Children through the harmonization, enactment, and accelerated implementation of global and regional child rights instruments. This seminar represents a critical step towards ensuring that every child in the SADC region can enjoy their rights and grow up in a safe and supportive environment. Highlights Update The Research to Change initiative has been a valuable learning experience for both us and the community-based organizations (CBOs) involved. From the outset of the Research to Change Mentorship Academy, Impact 4 Youth Kenya, through its dedicated staff, participated as the practicum partner of the R2C Academy team. Our members conducted numerous interviews to identify the challenges that CBOs face in implementing their community initiatives. Several key findings emerged from this research: 1. Most CBOs lack the necessary resources to implement their initiatives. 2. Many CBOs do not have staff with the capacity to write donor-funded proposals. 3. Some CBOs do not consider the eligibility criteria required by donors. In this project, we involved thirteen (13) CBOs who underwent a series of training sessions on resource mobilization, proposal writing, and building sustainable alliances to facilitate resource mobilization. Listen to the voices of these community-based organizations on this initiative and learn how this project has impacted them. 🔵 CLIMATE FINANCE TOOLKIT | Tactics for Implementing Section 3 of the Toolkit Insights from Courtney Morgan (Fair Finance Coalition Southern Africa, Senior Campaigner : Africa Climate Reality Project)​​ The Toolkit: Bridging Technicalities and Human Rights The toolkit is designed to empower campaigners and civil society organisations by linking the often complex and technical details of climate finance with a human rights-based approach. This toolkit serves as a bridge between the intricate world of financial mechanisms and the grassroots movements that demand just and fair outcomes. It offers a range of strategies and resources that enable activists to navigate the financial landscape with confidence, ensuring that climate finance contributes to the realisation of justice-driven solutions. Empowering Public Engagement A key message from Courtney's presentation was the need for the public to actively engage in climate finance discussions. She argued that for climate finance to truly benefit communities and countries, there must be widespread understanding and participation in how these funds are allocated and used. By demystifying the financial processes and making them more transparent, the toolkit encourages individuals and organisations to influence how funds are brought into and distributed within their countries. Tactics for Justice-Driven Outcomes Courtney also highlighted several tactics  which would be extracted from the toolkit that are designed to ensure climate finance contributes to equitable outcomes. These include educational programs that raise awareness about the intricacies of climate finance, legal actions that hold institutions accountable, and strategies for engaging with international lenders to advocate for justice-based allocations of funds.
