At #Cicada Carbon, we're committed to transparency and sharing the impact of our initiatives. Today, we delve deeper into the social and health benefits our cookstoves project is bringing to rural communities in Zimbabwe. 🪵🔥 Our survey of over 14,000 households, revealed a significant time-saving advantage for families using the cookstoves: • Up to 3 hours saved daily on cooking: Imagine the possibilities with this extra time – more time for income generation, childcare, education, and leisure activities. • Up to 3 hours saved daily on wood collection: This translates to less physical strain, particularly for women and children who are traditionally responsible for fuel collection. In addition to the social benefits, families stand to improve their health too! According to the World Health Organisation, household air pollution from traditional cooking methods is a major global health threat, causing millions of premature deaths annually, particularly among women and children. Cookstoves significantly reduce smoke inhalation, contributing to a cleaner and healthier home environment. Our #CicadaCarbon cookstoves project aligns with global efforts to promote access to clean cooking and reduce premature deaths. We believe in the power of collaboration to create positive change, and by sharing these results, we invite you to join us in our mission to empower communities, improve health outcomes, and grow a better future for all. #Cicada #Carbon #CarbonProject #Cookstoves #CleanCooking #EmpoweringCommunities #GrowingBetter

Various sources have reported that 2024, thus far, has been the worst drought in Zimbabwe for 40 years. As we grapple with the devastating effects of this drought, a new threat has emerged – compromised drinking water quality. 💧 Recent news reports have revealed that the Harare City Council's tests on water samples from local boreholes have detected traces of Escherichia coli (E.coli) bacteria. This discovery underscores the far reaching impacts of climate change, which are now extending beyond the agricultural sector and into our very homes and workplaces. Discover how #Cicada Agri-Tech's new water testing service can give you the peace of mind you need in these challenging times. As Zimbabwe grapples with staggering deforestation rates of 262,000 hectares per year, the need for sustainable energy solutions has never been more pressing. 🌳 A significant contributor to this deforestation is the reliance on biomass, particularly firewood, for cooking. Conventional open-fire cooking has long been a major driver of deforestation in Zimbabwe, as households rely on cutting down trees for their daily energy needs. However, our research has shown that the use of Cicada Carbon's Clean Cookstoves can significantly reduce this impact. Through rigorous Kitchen Performance Tests (KPTs), we've found that a standard open fire requires an average of 15.04kg of firewood per household per day, whereas our Clean Cookstoves only need 4.13kg – a remarkable 72.54% reduction in wood consumption. Crucially, the wood used in our Cookstoves is primarily in twigs and small branches, rather than whole trees. This means that our initiative is directly contributing to the preservation of Zimbabwe's precious forests, while still meeting the energy needs of households. Since the launch of our Cookstove project in December 2021, we've already saved an impressive 800,000 tons of CO2 emissions and prevented the deforestation of an estimated 14,000 hectares of land. This clearly demonstrates the tangible impact our Clean Cookstoves are having in the fight against Zimbabwe's deforestation crisis. By adopting Cicada Carbon's Clean Cookstoves, Zimbabwean households can enjoy the benefits of cleaner, more efficient cooking and take an active role in safeguarding the country's natural resources for generations to come. We invite you to watch this insightful video on the importance of restoring riparian zones through small-scale farming. 🎥🌊 The Cicada Outgrower Scheme is dedicated to making a positive impact on our environment, and here's why it matters: 1️⃣ Ecological Balance: Riparian zones, the areas along rivers and streams, play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance. We can restore these zones by implementing small-scale farming practices, ensuring a healthy habitat for diverse plant and animal species. 🦋 2️⃣ Water Quality and Conservation: Farming techniques prioritising riparian zone restoration help improve water quality by reducing soil erosion and preventing chemical runoff. This, in turn, supports clean and sustainable water sources for communities and ecosystems. 💧 3️⃣ Flood Mitigation: Well-maintained riparian zones act as natural buffers during floods, absorbing excess water and reducing the risk of damage to surrounding areas. Small-scale farming practices contribute to enhancing the resilience of these zones, safeguarding communities against potential flood impacts. 🌊 4️⃣ Carbon Sequestration: Riparian zones have the incredible capacity to store carbon, helping combat climate change. By restoring these areas through small-scale farming, we create additional opportunities for carbon sequestration, contributing to a healthier planet. 🌍♻️ At Cicada, we believe in the power of small-scale farming to restore riparian zones and promote sustainable agriculture. Join us in our commitment to preserving our waterways, protecting biodiversity, and mitigating the impacts of climate change. Together, we can make a difference! 🤝🌿 #Cicada #RiparianZoneRestoration #SmallScaleFarming #SustainableAgriculture #EnvironmentalConservation
