Roundtable philosophy reloaded. "It takes a whole village to educate a child" and as Pestalozzi World we understand the importance of 'villages', we for many years have been offering vulnerable children a quality education. Now, our new ambition extends beyond those those pursuing academic excellence - 'head', to those maximising the 'hands' vocational ambitions, and as always on a strong foundation of 'heart' the social and emotional intelligence that is a must. To better prepare for this venture we called up the village heads to bless our journey with nuggets of advice on how to best succeed. Thank you to Family Legacy ,Kasaija Banage of Zamseed , Mulamfu NRDC, Janus - Open Windows University, Bwalya of Sarovar Hotels & Resorts ,Julianne Mwanakulanga, Edulution, Enko Education , Tatiana Mulenga, Impuls Africa Limited, Simunza S. Muyangana of BongoHive Technology and Innovation Hub, Vernon Mainza Ushibantu of ZPOS, Dabwitso Mweemba, Sarah Silomba Kaulule (Dr.), MultiChoice Talent Factory, Kalikiliki Community centre, Lucy Thompson Siwale. Our own local board members and Ken Greatbatch from the Pestalozzi World UK board. I acknowledge the valuable insights given, the rich knowledge and depth of experience from the 'heads'(participants) to equip us for this journey, the invitation from those in authority in the vocational training space Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority - TEVETA to come back with any feedback or questions. We now invite you to watch this space for more from us as we embark on the Pestalozzi Zambia SkillsHub journey.

Why Touch Typing is the Key to Unleashing Your Coding Potential Have you ever dreamt of creating your own games, designing websites, or even building the next big app? Coding, the language of computers, unlocks these possibilities and empowers you to bring your digital ideas to life. But before you dive headfirst into lines of code, there's a crucial skill to master: touch typing. In our school outreach program, we might surprise you by starting with touch typing lessons, not coding itself. Here's why: Think Like a Racecar, Not a Learner Driver: Imagine composing a story while constantly searching for the next letter on the keyboard. It wouldn't be very efficient, right? The same goes for coding. Touch typing allows you to focus on the logic and creativity behind the code, not the physical act of typing. Your ideas will flow freely, just like a racecar on the track, instead of sputtering along like a learner driver. Fewer Bugs, More Fun: Coding relies on precise instructions, and even a single typo can cause errors. These can be tricky to find, like a tiny bug hiding in your code. Strong typing skills minimize these errors, saving you time and frustration. You'll spend less time debugging and more time having fun building amazing things! Confidence is Key: Feeling comfortable with the keyboard can be a huge confidence booster, especially for students who might feel new to the world of technology. Touch typing empowers you to tackle coding challenges with a sense of control and accomplishment. By starting with touch typing, we're laying a strong foundation for your coding journey. It's like building a solid base before constructing a magnificent building. So, the next time you see our program focusing on typing first, know that it's not a detour, it's the fast track to unleashing your inner coding genius! #codesavanna #tech

Picture this, Mulenga is one of the brightest students in her high school class in rural Zambia. Her dream is to be a software engineer, to build the tools that will help improve life in her community. But when she graduated, a familiar despair hung over her. College, the key to her dreams, seemed impossibly out of reach. The scholarships offered by the government are few and far between, and competition is fierce. Without opportunity, her drive feels useless. With every passing day, the lure of easy ways to forget her problems, like the drugs so readily available to her peers, begins to whisper in her ear. Mulenga is not alone. Across Zambia, the potential of countless young people like her goes unfulfilled. Their communities are deprived of the innovative spirit that could solve local problems and drive economic development. Statistics paint a stark picture: • 81% of young adults lack consistent internet access, cutting them off from knowledge and resources. • 65% don't own a computer, hindering their ability to practice and develop in-demand skills. •. 41% live in areas with unstable electricity, making digital learning a constant struggle. •. 80% have only primary or secondary education, leaving them without pathways to higher learning and fulfilling careers. This is where we step in. We believe that talent is universal, but opportunity is not. We're a non-profit laser-focused on providing high-quality technology education and entrepreneurial mentorship to the potential Mulengas of underrepresented communities. Our programs break down barriers, igniting a spark of self-belief that changes lives. • Holistic Approach: We don't just teach coding. We cultivate problem-solving mindsets, teach collaboration, and foster aspirations that reach beyond technical skills. • Community-Driven: We partner with local leaders and organizations, ensuring that our solutions are sustainable and deeply embedded within the communities we serve. Our programs equip young people with the skills they need to thrive in the rapidly evolving world of technology. We help them find freelance opportunities online, create their own tech-driven solutions, and become entrepreneurs who generate jobs in their own communities. We are relentlessly focused on demonstrating that the government isn't the sole provider of opportunity - indeed, studies show that governments worldwide struggle to keep up with the pace of workforce needs. Additionally, we collaborate with a robust network of partners to support driven students in pursuing study abroad experiences, broadening their global perspectives and knowledge base for the benefit of their communities. Mulenga's story doesn’t have to be the norm. With your backing, we can empower more youth to emerge as leaders and innovators, ultimately fostering a future our youth truly deserve.
