中部美洲世界树

世界树或生命之树，是一种在前哥伦布时期盛行于中部美洲的神秘宇宙论的一个传说，与当地的创世传说及图像志相关。世界树并不是一棵树，而是由多棵树组成，除了在中央的一棵连接天、地与阴曹的支柱以外，在四个方位各有一棵代表着中央一棵树的其他四棵树^[1]。它象征着生命，位于宇宙的中心。

世界树经常被描绘为有鸟儿在树枝上，而树根则深入至泥土和水里。在中美洲的神话传说，地府的象征物是一只水怪，所以世界树深入“泥土和水里”，其实亦入深入“地府”的意义。
