The Angler Fish is a recurring Boss in The Legend of Zelda series.[1]

Characteristics

Link's Awakening

The Angler Fish is the Boss of Angler's Tunnel in Link's Awakening. It is the Nightmare guarding the Surf Harp. The Angler Fish is fought underwater and charges at Link, making rocky tiles fall down from the ceiling upon hitting a wall. Angler Fries will also appear to aid it. Link can defeat it by slashing its light with the Sword.

Oracle of Ages

The Angler Fish is the Sub-Boss of Jabu-Jabu's Belly in Oracle of Ages. It is battled in one of the underground, side-scrolling areas of the Dungeon, with a bumpy ground that Link must use the Roc's Feather to traverse. The Angler Fish will move back and forth through the room while continually bouncing off the ground, up to the height of the ceiling. It will periodically fire harmful, slow-moving bubbles toward Link, which can bounce off the room's surfaces and accumulate. These bubbles can be popped with the Sword and will sometimes drop Hearts or Scent Seeds; otherwise they will eventually pop on their own.

Link must use the Seed Shooter to fire Scent Seeds at the Angler Fish, deflating it and dropping it to the ground, where Link can damage it by striking its light with his Sword. It will then reinflate and repeat the process several times. After taking enough damage, the Angler Fish will be defeated, leaving behind a Fairy and creating a portal just outside the underground room that leads to the Dungeon's entrance.
