As the impacts of climate change intensify, people and businesses are increasingly recognising the need to address the crisis unfolding around them. Urging businesses, governments and individuals to take immediate climate action. This year’s theme for #ClimateWeekNYC (22-29 September 2024) is, ‘It’s Time’.⌛ Vodacom supports this call for action through our ongoing efforts to reduce our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, develop a climate transition plan and ensure we are building an inclusive and sustainable future. As part of our commitment to a low-carbon future, we aim to match 100% of the grid electricity we use with electricity from renewable sources by 2025 and achieve net zero GHG emissions from our operations (scope 1 and 2) by 2035. By addressing pressing environmental challenges and collaborating with other stakeholders including governments, we can drive meaningful change and safeguard our planet for generations to come.🌍 Vodacom’s Climate and Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) report details key climate-related risks and opportunities and how we are managing these, which can be read here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eDPRhDpB

A report by the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development in 2022 argued that lowering the cost of devices is key to increasing access to smartphones. Vodacom South Africa has introduced a cloud-based phone to reduce the cost of smartphone access in the country and to accelerate the migration of customers from legacy networks to modern 4G networks. Retailing at only R249, the cloud-based phone comes standard with popular applications, all accessed via the cloud, giving users a “smartphone lite” experience.
