The Olympics start today, and there are a ton of exciting sports to look forward to. We’ll be keeping a close eye on South African medal hopefuls like sprinters Akani Simbine and Wayde van Niekerk, swimming stars Tatjana Schoenmaker and Chad le Clos, along with gymnast Caitlin Rooskrantz and surfer Jordy Smith. In collaboration with Greenpop, a total of 35 students from the environmental clubs of Highlands Primary, Strandfontein Primary, and Alicedale Primary, participated in a volunteer activity with RCS employees to plant a water-wise and indigenous garden at their respective schools. A total of 192 indigenous plants and 4 trees were planted, contributing to the beautification of the school and providing an educational resource for the students. For many affected companies, the recent disruptive rains across the country have put into sharp focus the importance of a robust Business Continuity Management (BCM) plan. Although varied in nature, every company deals with business disruptions and crisis situations at some point, so the importance of a BCM plan cannot be overstated. RCS has recently kicked off a week-long Business Continuity Awareness campaign to highlight preparedness and planning to mitigate the impact of events such as natural disasters (think the COVID-19 pandemic!), civil unrest, and power outages, for example. Through teamwork, understanding, and effective communication, the RCS Group will ensure its readiness should an unforeseen, unplanned crisis occur. As part of our commitment to Nelson Mandela Month, 36 RCS staff members volunteered at The Food Packaging Event with Rise Against Hunger at Grandwest. Together, we packaged 6,090 meals, which will provide 27 children with 5 meals per week for an entire year. During Mandela Day at Ladles of Love , another group of our staff engaged in various crafting activities to benefit ECD Centres. Options included bookmaking, wall art creation, crafting toys for cognitive development, and making soft toys to support emotional well-being. These activities aimed to promote education, creativity, and emotional support for young children. Our staff demonstrated their commitment to social responsibility and community engagement by participating in these impactful initiatives. #MandelaDay #CommunityEngagement #SocialResponsibility

For this year's Mandela Day, RCS staff will have the opportunity to spend time assisting worthy causes like Gardens For Good, Impact Hunger, Ladles of Love, and Western Cape Blood Services.  RCS is also supporting through donations to Thuthuzela Care Centre, U-Turn | Mi Change, and The Haven Night Shelters... and we're encouraging our staff to do the same by donating in cash or kind. The Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative Conflict Resolution & Education team's initiatives on the Cape Flats involve providing conflict resolution and peace promotion sessions to junior and senior school students and educators. Additionally, they offer mentoring to community leaders, educators, and prefects. During school breaks, the team provides engaging and educational activities to keep children engaged and away from potentially harmful situations on the streets. These efforts contribute to the development of positive conflict resolution skills and the fostering of a peaceful environment. #ConflictResolution #EducationForPeace #CommunityMentoring #YouthEngagement.

We know that sport empowers.
