🌍 Today, on the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, we recognise that poverty is not just a lack of income—it's a multidimensional challenge that affects access to nutritious food. School feeding programmes play a crucial role in addressing food security, ensuring that every child can thrive and learn. Together, we can make a difference! #EndPoverty #FoodSecurity

About us
Established in 1958 by the Rotary Club of Paarden Island (now Table Bay), the Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA) is a registered non-profit organisation (002-878 NPO) that addresses hunger in young learners attending primary, secondary and special needs schools as well as Orphaned & Vulnerable Children Centres (OVCs), Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDCs) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training Colleges (TVETs) in the Western Cape. Over and above the ingredients for a set menu supplied to each educational institution on our feeding programme, PSFA also provides each new school that joins our programme with cooking equipment, gas bottles, cooking gas when needed, plates and eating spoons. PSFA empowers and trains members of the community, mostly unemployed parents, to prepare and serve our meals to each of these educational institutions. PSFA also facilitates the building and supply of kitchens at schools that have inadequate facilities to prepare cooked meals. Our Mission - To combat the prevalence of hunger in children attending schools and other developmental institutions, through school feeding and other developmental initiatives, while they are at school. Our Vision - To reduce hunger in school children. Our Positive Impact: • Reduce short term hunger • Enhance a child’s ability to learn • Increase attendance and performance at school • Build immune systems • Increase learners energy resulting in improved concentration in the classroom • Reduce learner dropout rate at school • Provide peace of mind to the parents/guardians who are not able to afford to provide their children with nutritious meals while at home – poverty alleviation • Provide volunteer opportunities for unemployed parents/guardians. We provide our volunteer food preparers with ongoing training and mentorship.

Local food heroes. Jade Orgill is a dedicated Human Development Specialist and the founder of "The Sprightly Seed," a social enterprise focused on enhancing food security in South Africa. Through her work, she establishes sustainable food gardens at schools in the Western Cape, supporting local feeding schemes and empowering communities. Jade believes that meeting children's nutritional needs is vital for their overall development, aiming to create self-sufficient projects that foster independence. Her current initiative at Bel Porto Special School not only cultivates vegetables but also serves as a permaculture hub for skills development among school leavers. By collaborating with local organizations, Jade strives to turn schools into thriving, green income generators that benefit both students and the broader community.
