“Dedicating 2024 as the Year of African Education, the African Union has drawn attention to the continent’s primary developmental need: to increase access to quality education for its children. Demonstrable progress has been made towards this end in the 21st century, but there is much work yet to be done.” Read the full analysis: https://lnkd.in/dBqjAh2d #AfricanEducation #AfricanUnion #ConnectingAfricasPotential

The UK has pledged US$ 108 million for skills training and jobs development throughout Africa. The investment is intended to reduce the need for unemployed Africans to take the dangerous and illegal trip from their homes to seek work in the U.K. The reasoning behind the move is that boosting job opportunities locally will erase any desire to migrate. Illegal migration continues to be a deadly business for hundreds of Africans who drown annually in attempts to cross the Mediterranean Sea. Such migration has always been motivated by economic necessity. However, a new factor is expected to be felt soon: global warming, which will put further stress on Africa's resources unless investments boost these also. #SkillsTraining #JobDevelopment #ReducingMigration #InvestInAfrica #ConnectingAfricasPotential

Various stakeholders that we work with tread one step at a time when exploring opportunities in Africa, and depending on their appetite for risk, may choose to tackle one market or multiple, at the same time. Often such endeavours are complex and require sound market assessments in informing the way forward for the target jurisdictions, and this is where we come in. Our portfolio boasts a wide array of market assessments, both in single countries where we execute targeted jurisdictional research, as well as across markets where we compare and contrast the potential of each market. In one instance we supported an international financial institution from Asia looking for infrastructure investment opportunities in multiple African markets, across a sleuth of industries such as energy, telecommunications, transport and water infrastructure. Through our repertoire of research methodologies we advised on the policy landscapes, regulatory frameworks, historical risks and microeconomic factors in each market as some of the factors under consideration. Botswana is a landlocked southern African nation, that is often celebrated for its political stability and good governance but faces unique challenges amidst its successes. Botswana has a diamond-driven economy, and its anti-corruption efforts make it an attractive destination for investors. The country is a clear leader in wildlife conservation, offering valuable lessons in sustainable tourism for the world. Botswana aims to transition from a middle-income to a high-income country by 2036, showcasing its commitment to economic development. Pressing issues like economic inequality, overreliance on diamond exports, and vulnerability to climate change hinder progress. Limited water resources and the need for economic diversification pose ongoing concerns. Navigating through economic complexities, tapping into opportunities beyond diamonds, and addressing environmental challenges are crucial for Botswana's sustainable future. This week sees World Energy Independence Week, created to draw attention to energy self-sufficiency, which in effect means using alternative forms of energy to fossil fuels. Even in Africa's oil producing countries, the lack of oil refineries means processed petrol products must be imported, creating energy dependence. Green energy as indigenous energy is the way to create energy independence. The capacity to create electricity from biomass, wind and hydropower exists in every African country. Kenya has the ability to produce all its energy needs using geo-thermal power. #WorldEnergyIndependenceWeek #GreenEnergy #Africa #ConnectingAfricasPotential
