Presented by Seahlolo and Newsday Media Ls in partnership with Food For Mzansi, the inaugural event brought together Lesotho farmers who explored best practices for producing organic and competitive quality produce. This two-day study tour was a great success and truly inspirational. South Africa gained backing from the Biden administration for the renewal of Agoa. The mission, led by minister Parks Tau, focused on securing long-term stability to boost agricultural exports and investment opportunities.

Smallholder and emerging farmers in South Africa are particularly vulnerable to plant pests and diseases, leading to significant yield losses. However, the bio-economy strategy implemented by the Technology Innovation Agency is aimed at addressing this issue.

The crop estimates committee has cut its 2023/24 summer grains and oilseed forecast due to a mid-summer drought, now expecting 15.9 million tonnes. Maize prices are rising as the country faces a significant production drop from last year.
