About us

Oceans, seas, lakes and rivers offer growing possibilities in the areas of trade, food, energy and recreation. To ensure global prosperity for next generations and keep the earth habitable with an ever-increasing population, it is essential to utilise and protect these possibilities as efficiently and responsibly as possible. Damen provides unprecedented maritime solutions for this, through design, shipbuilding, ship repair and related services. We offer versatile platforms that enable our customers to be successful and that raise the standard in terms of safety, reliability, efficiency and sustainability. We want to become the most sustainable shipbuilders in the world. In the previous century, we revolutionized shipbuilding. Thanks to standardisation, we were able to supply our customers with better ships, faster. More than 90 years and 6,500 ships later, the importance of standardisation is only increasing in the light of zero-emissions and digitalisation. We do not build our ships alone, but together with an extensive network from the international maritime cluster. We firmly believe in the power of sharing. It means that we also use our craftsmanship to build platforms on production facilities that are not ours. In this way, through knowledge transfer, we not only contribute to better, safer and more eco-friendly ships, but also to sustainable local development and prosperity. We are a family owned business and stand for fellowship, craftsmanship, entrepreneurship and stewardship. Our playing field is the world. Our horizon is the long term. We firmly believe in our team, but also in the strength of the individual. Each colleague is an entrepreneur, focused on ensuring truly satisfied clients and making our contribution to a better world. In every aspect of our business the next generation is our starting point.

From the innovation tour featuring future-proof applications like the Riverscooper from fully recyclable HDPE composite materials and the Water Injection Dredger, to the hands-on experiences with our vessels, the festival was a celebration of innovation and collaboration. We loved to see so many enthusiastic participants engaging in discussions and networking. Watch the aftermovie to see how we are driving the future of maritime technology. Two milestones in one! On 3 October, our Galati yard celebrated the joint steel cutting and keel laying of the Portuguese Navy’s new Multi Purpose Vessel the NRP Dom João II. The milestone moments were undertaken by Portuguese Minister of Defence Nuno Melo and Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Gouveia e Melo. Damen cooperated closely with the navy in the development of a ship suited to their specific needs. The vessel will undertake a range of tasks including oceanic research, search and rescue, and naval support – including the launch of drones and autonomous technology. Latest addition to our dredging family. With its 970kW of installed power, the Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) 450 has the ability to operate to depths of -12 metres, with a swing width of 30 metres, and the capability to dredge some 3,400m3/h. The dismountable design is an exercise in safe efficiency, with a well positioned operating cabin, flush decks and a raised winch, well away from the crew. A next generation dredger fit for the future and a welcome newcomer to our portfolio. #Damen #Shipbuilding #CSD450 #Dredger

Sovereign in the dock. On 3 September, our Amsterdam repair yard gave a royal welcome to Global Marine Group cable laying vessel C. S. Sovereign. During her time in Amsterdam, the vessel was cleaned and repainted and underwent work to her thrusters. Stell repairs were also carried out to her ballast water tanks until, revitalised, the vessel went back onto the water and into action on 18 September. #Damen #Shiprepair #Maritime #Amsterdam

Welcome to a new member of the Damen family! Two new Damen ASD Tugs 2312 have arrived at the Port of Colombo, Sri Lanka, where they were welcomed with a naming ceremony. The tugs, Aquarius and Capricorn will operate in the port, which is one of the busiest in southern Asia. There the tugs will bring new levels of capability and manoeuvrability. The partnership of Damen and Sri Lanka Shipping Company Limited has already got off to an excellent start with the directors sharing many values including the significance of family and the importance of building strong, trust-based relationships for the long-term. #Damen #Shipbuilding #SLSC #Tugs

Up and running! Some time ago we delivered the first in series CSD600 to PT. Dua Samudera Perkasa. The dredger was transported on a heavy lift vessel from the Port of Rotterdam to Indonesia, where it was commissioned by our Field Service Engineers. The CSD600, named Jhoni 58, is already at work on a maintenance dredging project in the Port of Batulicin on the island of Kalimantan. Now, we’re busily putting the finishing touches on the second CSD600 at our Damen Dredging yard. The dredger will offer 250 kilowatts of cutter power and the capability to dredge up to 6000m3/h at depths up to -16 metres. The CSD600 also features a cutting-edge control system, and a state-of-the-art dredge pump design and integrated spud carriage for a significant boost in efficiency. #Damen #Dredger #Dredging #Shipbuilding

Optimised for the operation. We have worked closely together with our client to ensure these vessels are configured to their needs. To achieve this, we undertook a thorough assessment of the operation, infrastructure and, most importantly, the wishes of the customer. The result is a cost-effective common design, able to fulfil the requirements of the operation with fewer vessels. #Damen #Maritime #Ferry
