We are the African Organisation of English-Speaking Supreme Audit Institutions in Africa
About us
AFROSAI-E plays a facilitative role in empowering member Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) to optimise their audit performance by sharing information and supporting them in their capacity building interventions aimed at improved performance in the execution of their mandates. AFROSAI-E is a reputable regional organisation with a wide range of contacts and external stakeholders that provide encouragement, advice and support for its capacity building initiatives. These initiatives are ultimately designed to be of benefit to the citizens in English-speaking Africa. AFROSAI-E strives to lead by example and does so by applying a robust governance structure of oversight and reporting. AFROSAI-E is a voluntary association of its members and is ruled by its own Statutes and by the respective regulatory provisions. AFROSAI-E has a Governing Board, which is the supreme authority of AFROSAI-E and has powers and responsibilities as set out in the Statutes. The Governing Board of AFROSAI-E consists of the heads of member SAIs and each Auditor-General is assigned to serve on one of the oversight subcommittees. The Secretariat, through a needs identification process, assists the Governing Board in setting its five-year Corporate Plan. The Corporate Plan guides the annual work plan and budget, the outcomes of which are reported annually in an Integrated Annual Report and Activity Report.

One of our strategic aims is to build a pool of skilled and competent trainers who can design and facilitate audit and non-audit institutional learning interventions in their home SAIs and the region. We developed the AFROSAI-E Training-of-Trainers (ToT) programme to achieve this goal. Since 2022, we have successfully trained over 40 facilitators from 13 SAIs in two training rounds. The ToT Champions Programme is an ongoing initiative to ensure that all SAIs will eventually benefit from increased internal training capacity. The first workshop of the Class of 2024 is taking place this week in Pretoria, South Africa. #training #continuousdevelopment

A major challenge facing all SAls is to consistently deliver high-quality audits and other work. The quality of work performed by SAls affects their reputation and credibility and, ultimately, their ability to fulfil their mandate. (#ISSAI140) By implementing an external quality assurance review at each of our member SAIs at least once every three years, we support their accelerated development and compliance with international standards. This week, we are hosting participants from across the region for a Quality Assurance Certification workshop. The aim of this workshop is to: 👉 Enhance their knowledge and skills in performing AFROSAI-E quality assurance reviews. 👉 Train them on recent changes in INTOSAI standards that affect our review templates and methodology. 👉 Enhance the pool of certified quality assurance reviewers in the region. 👉 Improve quality assurance review processes and procedures at the individual SAI level. #qualityassurance

This year, we are partnering with the Office of the Auditor General of Norway and the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) to deliver our annual Extractive Industries Workshop in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. 🌍 Mining and oil companies are being urged to improve the communities they operate in. Environmental degradation has been a significant concern for activists and community leaders. It's crucial for governments to create policies that protect these communities from exploitation and ensure they benefit from local resources. In light of this, our 2024 Extractive Industries Workshop is focusing on how Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) can ensure better resource governance for the maximum benefit of citizens. We are exploring topics around: 👉 #Sustainability Reporting: Auditors increasingly focus on verifying sustainability reports in extractive industries to ensure accurate disclosure of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors. 👉 Resource Reserves Evaluation: Auditors scrutinise the estimation and disclosure of mineral or oil/gas reserves to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant reporting standards. #Anticorruption Measures: Auditors evaluate anti-corruption controls in the extractive sector to prevent bribery, fraud, and other unethical practices. 👉 #Digitalisation and #cybersecurity: Auditors focus on cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive data, intellectual property, and operational systems from cyber threats and breaches. A huge thank you to SAI Tanzania for hosting the workshop! #extractiveindustries #mining #oil #SustainableDevelopment #ResourceGovernance #CommunityEmpowerment
