The Africanbank Brand Indaba was a first for our bank and an exciting sign of what is to come. A brand that revels in the Audacity to Believe is trend-setting, game-changing, collaborative, creative, and sincere. There is power in our story. Last week, at an energetic and vibrant Africanbank Head Office in Midrand, we showcased our refreshed Africanbank brand. One of Africa’s brightest stars, our beautiful new brand ambassador Nomzamo Mbatha, spoke of how the Africanbank story resonates with her. As our Group Chief Marketing Officer Sbu Kumalo said, our story is both a source of pride and inspiration. Our collaboration with Nomzamo, and our design partner Khosi Nkosi, underscores our passion for backing go-getters with an unshakeable audacity to believe. And audacious is an apt description for our new uniform collection. We’re making banking fashionable with a collection that is unified, not uniform. Our Brand Indaba is about a passionate commitment to the people and communities we serve. This event was a rallying cry to our people. It was designed to channel their passion for Africanbank, and their excitement about our future, into their roles as leaders of our movement. We plan to roll out similar Brand Indabas across South Africa, bring our story, energy, and purpose to the people for whom this bank was built. There’s even an exciting consumer fashion collection in the works! Here are some photos from the event. 💙💚 #MeetTheBrand #Africanbankers #Africanbank #AudacityToBelieve

I was lucky to be interviewed on the DJ Fresh podcast this week to talk about banking and most especially fashionable banking. Loved the conversation and discussion, and it was fun to get dressed up again in the incredible Africanbank x @khosinkosi range. Thanks to @djfreshsa for the chat and @bonolo_bae for my incredible facebeat. #fashionablebanking #audacitytobelieve #blackexcellence https://lnkd.in/dYmKEhqs

In the latest episode of my segment on Africanbank's Sonke Radio, I teamed up with the brilliant Shirley Moshoeshoe, our Ops Senior Manager in Special Projects, to dive deep into the world of #DigitalFinancialServices and their transformative impact on South Africa's financial landscape—especially for the everyday man. 💡 Shirley and I were part of the incredible team that recently launched Africanbank's #PayShap offering. We spoke about its potential impact (and those of innovations similar to it) on disrupting cash and other payment methods. If you missed our insightful chat yesterday, don’t worry! Tune in on Thursdays at 2 PM if you’re at any of our branches nationwide, where I will frequently partner up with #MovementMakers to talk all things #FinancailInclusion and #FinancialWellness. Also, a big shoutout to Aphelele Somi and her amazing team for hosting us and making us want to stay at the studio instead of going back to our work!😂 Join us for a dose of FUN, inspiration, and EMPOWERMENT on your journey to financial wellness. Let’s make strides towards a brighter financial future together! 🚀✨

Mentally and physically I am exhausted! But my goodness gracious me - my heart is full! 🥹🙏🏽 Doing this work for me has been in service of a purpose that is so bigger than me! And last night as I stood on the stage handing out these cheques to these women entrepreneurs I got teary eyed. (I candidly joked in my closing remarks that it wasn’t because I wished that I was the one walking away with a whopping R180 000 in cash!) 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 I got teary eyed because I could just see how this work of love being made visible is changing peoples lives! 🥹🥹🥹 Last night - at an auspicious gathering convened by an organisation that I love with all of my heart Young Leaders Connect - IDEAL and sponsored by our strategic partner Africanbank we celebrated black female entrepreneurship excellence! ✨💫 Our IDEAL Entrepreneurship pillar led by Selapeng Chriscentia Maledimo CA (SA) and Nonkululeko Radise seeks to empower women entrepreneurs by providing bespoke training, funding opportunities and support for 50 women owned businesses by 2025. We are proud to announce that High Risers was a Top 12 finalist in the Young Leaders Connect - IDEAL pitch competition, sponsored by Africanbank to celebrate black female entrepreneurship excellence. This initiative included cash prizes totaling R180,000, with R100,000 for the overall winner and R50,000 and R30,000 for the runners-up. Heartfelt congratulations to the winning pitchers: 1. Refilwe Mokoena of Nkome ke Monate 2. Atlehang Ramathesele of Blossom Ink Media 3. Andile Mcobothi (FMVA)® of Future Goals Academy A big shout-out to Madame Chair Lerato Phelane CA(SA) and the Entrepreneurship Leadership Co-leads Selapeng Chriscentia Maledimo CA (SA) and Nonkululeko Radise for organising this incredible opportunity and hosting a stellar event. We all walked away richer in knowledge and experience. While we often share our successes, it's equally important to reflect on our lessons. As Michael Jordan famously said: "I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." In that spirit, I want to share why High Risers didn't win and the valuable lessons we learned: - Ensure you're investor-ready: Have a solid business plan, clear financials, and a compelling pitch deck that showcases your value proposition. - Show traction through post-revenue numbers: Present verifiable revenue figures or key performance indicators that demonstrate growth and potential. - Know your market: Demonstrate a deep understanding of your target audience's needs and how your solution stands out in the competitive landscape. - Have a clear scaling strategy: Outline a concrete plan for how you'll grow your business, including operational scaling, and evolving customer acquisition methods. - Build a strong team: Highlight the diverse skills and experiences of your team members and why you're the best team to execute your vision and achieve your goals. These experiences are invaluable stepping stones on our entrepreneurial journey. I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with fellow innovators.

MBA (WBS) l Head: Brand and Marketing

Reflecting on an exhilarating week, I had the pleasure of unveiling our refreshed Corporate Identity and new brand ambassador, Nomzamo Mbatha at our inaugural Brand Indaba. Sharing this with our valued Africanbankers, Sponsorship partners, Alliance partners and agency partners was an important milestone of the launch process and an incredible experience. The past two years at Africanbank have been nothing short of thrilling, and I am deeply grateful for the trust and responsibility. I am also blessed to work with a team that makes every day enjoyable. Here’s to forging ahead with audacity and continuing to build on our success! We are delighted to announce that Africanbank has been ranked as one of the Top 3 banks in the Brand Index for the Banking Industry at the Ask Afrika Brand Index 2024 for demonstrating ‘humanity in banking’. Ask Afrika benchmark study aims to uncover how customers perceive and experience their banks, and how brands strengthen relationships by doing more than merely delivering on the brand promises made. Purpose-led brands that win sustainably create integrated strategies that embed connection and trust. This became evident in the creative communication of the top three banks that each have a trust story in their narrative and purpose in how they were founded. The Ask Afrika Brand Index is as much a leadership conversation as it is a brand conversation. It adopts the premise that brands lead with purpose. This implies that a significant synergy and integration is required between brand, marketing, and customer experience (CX) strategies, being congruent to the brand purpose and responding to societies, not only to customers. The vision of our founders, of ‘an Africanbank for the people, by the people, serving the people’, demands that we strive to make a meaningful difference in our country and in the lives of those who contribute so much to our economy. We thank our customers for trusting us to back them, because when they grow, we grow. #Africanbank #AudacityToBelieve #AfrikaBrandIndex2024

    Group Chief People Officer

Our Africanbank movement is guided by strategy and a banking heritage unlike any other. When we adopted our Excelerate25 strategy , we plotted an audacious course towards the vision of Dr Sam Motsuenyane, and our pioneering founders: a bank for the people, by the people, serving the people. The success of our strategic journey will rely on many crucial factors, and that includes winning the war for talent. At Africanbank, we believe that with experienced and dynamic leaders at the forefront of our movement, we can drive greater innovation and enhance our customer-centric focus. And so, we have worked hard to create an environment in which our Africanbank employees can thrive, where they can feel supported as they strive to reach their full potential, and where they are inspired to take ownership of our vision at a bank that was built for them. I am therefore immensely proud of Dr Asanda Heshula Nesindande , who achieved a Doctor of Philosophy in Strategic Human Resources Management, through the University of Johannesburg. Dr Asanda also holds a Master of Commerce in Leadership Performance and Change, a BA Honours in Human Resources Management, and a BTECH Degree in Human Resources Management. Her doctoral thesis proposed an integrated framework for talent management in digital banking, one that will allow the implementation of talent management practices that are aligned with the new world of work, driven by digital transformation. We are delighted to have been a part of Dr Nesindande’s successful PhD journey. Through our internal Bursary Programme, Africanbank was able to fund her studies. We have the Audacity to Believe in our employees, and back their career and academic aspirations. I am especially excited about Dr Nesindande’s study, and her insight and expertise will prove crucial as we continuously refine our People Practices, remain future-fit, and respond to the demands and opportunities of digitalisation.
