Sint Maarten was devastated by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. The island is building back better with the help of the Sint Maarten Reconstruction, Recovery and Resilience Trust Fund, which is financed by The Netherlands, managed by the World Bank, and implemented by Sint Maarten.

Severe damage to tourism-related infrastructure from Hurricanes Irma and Maria in September 2017 led to a sharp economic downturn in 2017 and 2018. The cumulative contraction of GDP in 2017 and 2018 is an estimated 12 percent.

Emergency Income Support and Training Project
