bot flag

Hi, sorry to bother you! Am I correct that you were responsible for adding this account to the bot user group, per my request? It appears that went correctly, per the list of bots.

However, there are two little weird issues. One is that I can't find any record of the user group being given out. I'd expect it to be in this log, like for FuzzyBot? The second is that I haven't managed to edit with the bot flag. Of course, that might very well/likely be user error or an error in my tool/configuration. I just thought it was weird in combination with the lack of a log; do you think that's significant or a red herring? When I tried to edit with the bot flag set, I got the following MediaWiki API error: apierror-assertbotfailed.

To be complete, I checked the userinfo endpoint, which reported that I have the bot right and that I am in the bot group. Do you have any ideas? --AzBot (talk) 11:21, 4 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

In the early beginning of the project staff has handled all user rights. This has been handed over to the community some time ago. Since we do not have any local bureaucrats we need some help of the stewards for advanced rights. You can find the log on Meta: [1]. Since I am not a bot maintainer I am not sure what you have to do to edit with the bot flag. Maybe mw:API:Assert provides some help? --Ameisenigel (talk) 12:28, 4 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the info and for allowing me to stop chasing that red herring! Given that the two were unrelated, I tracked it down to a missing grant on my bot password and a bug in the library I was using. --AzBot (talk) 14:31, 4 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
To add to my confusion, "bot flags" only seem to show up on Special:RecentChanges, not in the regular page history. So that threw me for a bit as well... --AzBot (talk) 14:37, 4 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Korrektur von Bezeichnungen

Hallo Ameisenigel, kann ich Bezeichnungen von Funktionen so wie hier einfach ändern oder verursache ich damit Probleme? Viele Grüße Brettchenweber (talk) 19:38, 11 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Das kannst du ruhig machen. Gegebenenfalls wäre es aber sinnvoll, das bei den Implementierungen und Tests ebenfalls entsprechend anzupassen. --Ameisenigel (talk) 20:39, 11 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Danke, ich versuche es mal. Brettchenweber (talk) 20:59, 11 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Request for creating Mediawiki:Recentchangestext

Hi, sorry to bother you, but I wanted to suggest creating the Mediawiki:Recentchangestext. This page would be very helpful for users to navigate important links, such as "Create a function" and other useful resources. If you’d like, I can create a starting page to help get this set up. By the way, I requested Dark Mode gadget on one of the interface-admin's talk page, but unfortunately, if they don't have time to fulfill requests at least, why do they even ask for these rights?! Thank you in advance. Aram (talk) 21:39, 23 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I would suggest to propose this at Wikifunctions:Project chat first and it would be really helpful if you could create a page for it. I can implement this if there are no objections.
For the gadget @Ebrahim, Mdaniels5757, and Terasail: might be able to help. --Ameisenigel (talk) 00:37, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Aram I added the gadget; please let me know if there are any issues. Best, —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 04:10, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Ameisenigel Thank you for the warm reply! I have created Template:Recentchangestext and made a proposal here. And @Mdaniels5757, thank you as well for fulfilling my request regarding Dark Mode; you've saved a lot of eyes! Thank you both, I really appreciate it! Aram (talk) 20:46, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Discussion for this action

Hello! Just making sure you discussed the above log action with @Amire80: where you redid this one that was reverted by Amir here. If not, and if it's an important issue to both of you, I'd ask that you discuss it instead of wheel warring over it. Thanks! Feeglgeef (talk) 22:04, 4 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

I have no idea why it has been removed. It does not make sense to have translatable pages that are not assigned to a translation group. --Ameisenigel (talk) 22:09, 4 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Alright, we'll see what she says. Feeglgeef (talk) 22:14, 4 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
I removed those two pages from the "Project" aggregate group because it's not clear what are they for in general, and why are they translatable. As I understand it, the "Project" group is supposed to be for general documentation pages about the project, that would be useful to have completely translated. Adding random vague pages makes the completion harder.
And I just removed them from the "Project" group without adding them to another group because I mistakenly assumed that all translatable pages are added to the "Translatable pages" group, but I've realized that it is only done on translatewiki.net using local configuration there. So maybe they can have their own group—they are kind of related because they were both created by @Arlo Barnes. Or maybe they can be removed from translation completely until their purpose is clarified. Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 10:24, 6 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
I don't see how the OpenFunctions page could be translated anyway at least in its current state, its all links and variable names. Arlo Barnes (talk) 10:43, 6 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
I think it would make sense to create a separate group for "other" or "miscellaneous" pages. In addition to this we could also discourage from translation of these pages. --Ameisenigel (talk) 13:59, 6 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
