There are several major problems with the current state of Requests for Deletions. The first problem is that nominating an item does not notify the creator of the item, which means that most people don't even know that an item they made has been listed. A second problem is that several dozen items are nominated every day, and while most of them are routine nominations, some require a bit more nuance than others. A third problem is that nominated items often have linked items, and it is often wanted to delete all of those as well but it's currently pretty hard to take an existing request and add a new item to it. The current deletion tool is fine for nominating single items but it does not have adequate support for batch nominations.
I think there should be an overhaul of the deletion process. An easy change is to configure the deletion nomination userscript to leave a message on the talk page of an item when it is nominated for deletion. I have some other theories for the other problems, such as introducing a PROD mechanism for uncontested deletions, which might help to declutter the main RfD page for actually controversial deletions. For the controversial deletions, maybe we could introduce category lists so it's not as jumbled as the current system.
I'm welcome to suggestions and alternate ideas. RPI2026F1 (talk) 17:53, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
