Data type | Quantity |
Domain | food (Q2095) |
Allowed units | unit of time (Q1790144) |
Example |
|
Planned use | to indicate spoilage of common cultivars first |
We don't have duration datatype, so it should be quantity then. d1g (talk) 22:36, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
Main domain is Q2095, but other could be used too. d1g (talk) 22:46, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

- Already has the description, in English, "length of time that a commodity may be stored without becoming unfit for use or consumption. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:14, 1 September 2017 (UTC)

- Comment I'm not sure this is a stable measurement suitable for a database. I would expect many different values being determined for the same food, even in one location, but then when humidity and temperature were varied, the answer would change again, this time dramatically. To encode all of this with error bars, qualifiers, and conflicting references could get very messy.--99of9 (talk) 13:37, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
- Conditions of cold/dark room are meant for most fruits and exceptional foodstuff is stored in refrigerator/freezer.
- We don't have information about humidity/temp yet.
- For rare cultivars we don't have even approximate estimate. d1g (talk) 08:47, 6 September 2017 (UTC)
- Can you give some examples of authoritative sources? --99of9 (talk) 09:31, 6 September 2017 (UTC)
- Sources for not having precise information?
- What are you trying to ask, @99of9:? d1g (talk) 10:33, 6 September 2017 (UTC)
- Oh, sorry @D1gggg: I mean authoritative catalogues of shelf lives. e.g. how do we know that spinach (Q36814998) = 8 days? Is there some kind of food standards authority that says this? --99of9 (talk) 10:36, 6 September 2017 (UTC)
- Every agricultural organization can give an estimate shelf life. This is part of cultivar development.

Done @D1gggg, Pigsonthewing, ChristianKl: created as shelf life (P4218). Enjoy! --99of9 (talk) 12:21, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
