coefficient of friction
[edit]Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Natural science
Description | Dimensionless scalar value which describes the ratio of the force of friction between two bodies and the force pressing them together. |
---|---|
Represents | material (Q214609) > mechanical property (Q5725005) > coefficient of friction (Q1932524) |
Data type | Quantity |

Discussion
- Support but it definitely doesn't make sense without qualifiers, as you suggest. ArthurPSmith (talk) 16:53, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
- Agreed. Most of PEEK datasheets give the kinematic coefficient of friction on a normalized steel plate. It is measured on such machines : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtTO3bAW7j4 according to standards such as ISO 8295, ASTM D1894, JIS K 7125, DIN 53375... At least, it helps to compare different materials. I added the determination method as mandatory. It could also be usefull to gather some experimental data on other interfaces. This makes me think that there is 2 different types of coefficient of friction : static and dynamic. It could be stated in the determination method so that is it usefull to make 2 properties ? --Thibdx (talk) 22:07, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
