Hi, you found a valuable source for the date of birth of Julia Cruger, but the source says 19 July 1853 and you added 19 July 1854.

Q6306335

RabbitFromMars (talkcontribs)

Nevermind, I found that she gave different birth years of 1848, 1853 and 1854, presumably in an attempt to lower her age in adult years.

Hi Gamaliel,

how shall a Wiki editor distinguish two scientists with the same name when both are described as chercheur / Forscher / investigador? Only in the English language you have resorted to a more complete form with the ORCID, e.g. researcher ORCID 0000-0003-0703-9787.

Why have you privileged the English language in your mass edits?

Gamaliel (talkcontribs)

You are right, it does not help distinguish between the two scientists, but a blank description has the same problem and is even less useful. These are only intended to be placeholders until someone adds a better description, but they are far more useful than no information at all.

I started with English only and in later batches I added other languages. When or if I do more batches I will add the orcid for all languages.

Gamaliel (talkcontribs)

I've removed all the German descriptions of "Forscher" from Wikidata items. There should be no more need for you to remove English language descriptions.

Bernice Heiderman (talkcontribs)
Gamaliel (talkcontribs)

If my job missed some, I will do another query to try to find them.

Dear Gamaliel,

please stop immediately. Since my last plea you've continued to add ORCID 0000-000X-XXXX-XXXX as German description for more than 10 hours, which is not a good description. I sincerely ask you to come up with a better heuristics or at least remove all ORCID 0000-000X-XXXX-XXXX descriptions.

Thank you in advance

Gamaliel (talkcontribs)

I have just been trying to respond helpfully to your complaints but at this point I no longer want to be involved in German language descriptions. I will no longer edit them if you stop removing English language descriptions.

Bernice Heiderman (talkcontribs)

I acknowledge that, but would you accept having an increasing number as Help:Description for your language?

Gamaliel (talkcontribs)

I’m sorry, I don’t understand.

Bernice Heiderman (talkcontribs)
Gamaliel (talkcontribs)

I personally find those descriptions helpful and I have added them in English myself in the past. I understand that other people have different opinions about that and I respect that.

Bernice Heiderman (talkcontribs)

May you please remove the ORCID 0000-000X-XXXX-XXXX-style descriptions for German? They are not usual practice.

Gamaliel (talkcontribs)

I will be glad to do that if you would please finally stop blanking English descriptions. What would you prefer the German descriptions to be?

Bernice Heiderman (talkcontribs)

Before more researchers are classified into more exact professions I would prefer an empty description.

The date of birth you entered for this person seems incorrect. I have tried to find the person in the mentioned source Appletons' Cyclopædia of American Biography (Q12912667) on Wikisource and Internet Archive, but I cannot tell that any of the Thomas Browns I've found there would be correct, nor what the date of birth should be.

Jamie7687 (talkcontribs)

Look at the bottom of this database report. I would fix these, but I can't be sure whether they should be removed, changed to 4-digit years, or deprecated, as I do not have access to the cited source.

Gamaliel (talkcontribs)

Thanks. I'll double check the source and make any necessary corrections.

Zyx1976 (talkcontribs)

Hi Gamaliel. I would like to unifiy two different elements (Q123738636 and Q123139309) which, in fact, are the same [person]. How can I do that? Thanks in advance.

Gamaliel (talkcontribs)

They look like they are different people based on the information I see there.

Zyx1976 (talkcontribs)

You're right, my mistake! I mean Q123738636 and Q57688537.

Gamaliel (talkcontribs)

Those two are definitely the same! I went ahead and merged them. Help:Merge describes the process.

JAn Dudík (talkcontribs)

Hello, Long time ago you added some dates from Wkitree , but these dates never were on Wikitree profile - there was only year which correspond with other sources. You probably migt add similar incorrect dates to other people so please check your script.

Gamaliel (talkcontribs)

Thank you, I'll take a look and see if I can figure out what went wrong.

I'll be glad to do that, but keep in mind that many of these items do not contain those properties, nor any information besides basic relationships and dates. For example: Q122813898

How did a dead woman give birth to a child?

Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talkcontribs)

How did a dead woman give birth to a child? Anna Claypoole Peale and Mary Chambers should be alive at the same time, but the latest end value of Mary Chambers is 21 June 1759 and the earliest start value of Anna Claypoole Peale is 6 March 1791. You restored that error.

Gamaliel (talkcontribs)

I've added the correct mother and an image of her.

Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talkcontribs)

I should have fixed it, instead of deleting it, but I was fixing a large number of the same error, and I didn't want to lose my place in the queue.

EncycloPetey (talkcontribs)

You made a series of edits like this one where you claimed a novel was a female writer. This cannot be correct, and you should review all your recent edits for this error, as you made it multiple times. --EncycloPetey (talk) 04:31, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

EncycloPetey (talkcontribs)

In this edit you identified a rap music producer as a woman writer described by a book about Victorian literature. --EncycloPetey (talk) 04:36, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for alerting me to my errors, I will fix my mistakes.

Hi Gamaliel,

if I'm reverting you I'm sorry for that and not doing this out of personal reasons. It is simply, that Forscher (Q1650915) is inappropriate term in German for the way it's used and Wissenschaftler (Q901) would have been a better choice.

Kind regards

Gamaliel (talkcontribs)

I do not understand why you are removing ALL the descriptions when you object to only one of them. Why do you not remove only that one?
