What code is it?
[edit]Hi, what code is listed using this property? ru:Экспресс-3, ru:АСУЖТ or something else? — Ivan A. Krestinin (talk) 07:51, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- station code (P296) — АСУЖТ;
- UIC station code (P722) — Экспресс-3

- Спасибо, добавил соответствующие проверки. — Ivan A. Krestinin (talk) 17:17, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
- Похоже это не АСУЖТ, а что-то ещё, см. Wikidata:Database reports/Constraint violations/P296. — Ivan A. Krestinin (talk) 08:03, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
- How should we translate АСУЖТ ? Is it an acronym ? Ske (talk)
- АСУЖТ - Автоматизированная система управления железнодорожным транспортом, automated railway transport control system, it is used in ex-USSR countries, some descriptions: [1], and about code: ru:АСУЖТ (sorry, I do not find on English). — Ivan A. Krestinin (talk) 04:18, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

"Local" code
[edit]The property seems to be used to store a code contextualy to the country of the station. I think it's a bad idea :
- It's imprecise and may be confusing
- We can't give foreign code for international stations. For sample London Waterloo International is :
- WIT in British code system
- LWO in French TT0020 code system
So it would be better to have different properties for each local code system. Ske (talk) 10:58, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, different properties is better. — Ivan A. Krestinin (talk) 04:18, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
Support Separate properties for distinct local code systems would also facilitate distinct property constraint (P2302) for each system. E. g. while many systems encompass only instances of public transport stop (Q548662), the German DS100 system encompasses any kind of operation point (Q1318558). It seems some local systems also encompass e.g. level crossing (Q171448). Such differences can be accomodated for then. Dealerofsalvation (talk) 19:37, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Let's re-shuffle the limits here
[edit]- The domain of this should be instance of (P31) "I suggest to create an item which has no sitelinks and equals to the disambiguation page national railway (Q2324835)".
- Aka should be the National Railway Authorities/Companies/Organizations...
- ...
Feel free to edit my comments above to show your suggests... --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 10:48, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
- @Liuxinyu970226: You raise a good point... national railway (Q2324835) isn't a disambiguation page! It's a broad-concept item about "national railway" or "government-owned railway", often with a list of national railways in the article. But I disagree with the constraint that only state-owned railways can use this property. As I suggested in the PFD, it should be possible for private transport (train, bus, ferry) companies which have their own station coding schemes to use this property as well. I would instead propose: The domain of this should be a (recursive) subclass / instance of transport company (Q740752). Deryck Chan (talk) 16:38, 24 August 2017 (UTC)
- I've removed the /w / constraint per my suggestions above and in the most recent PFD. Deryck Chan (talk) 22:38, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

OSM
[edit]I've deleted the OpenStreetMap key "railway:ref" because it can also mark other reference numbers in the railway system, e.g. the name of a level crossing. -- Discostu (talk) 10:07, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
