Critical Fire Weather in the North-Central U.S.; Dangerous Heat in the Desert Southwest and Coastal California

A cold front pressing south across the northern and central Plains Wednesday will bring gusty winds creating critical fire weather for parts of the region. Red Flag Warnings and Fire Weather Watches have been issued. Dangerous heat continues in parts of the Desert Southwest through Friday amid a late season heat wave and into coastal California. NWS is extending the comment period for the Experimental National Geographic Information System (GIS) Map Viewer (“the Viewer”) web application hosted on the Amazon Web Services public cloud through May 27, 2022. The following notification  and news article contain more information. The Viewer is also embedded below.

Many of the National Weather Service data sets are available in formats that are able to be imported directly into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or your own custom map viewers or web pages.  Data formats include downloadable shapefiles and KML formats, web services, and our basemaps in shapefile format.
