I'm not sure what to think about season five of The Lego Monkie Kid. As soon as I saw the trailer and many people started criticizing it, I automatically thought that the whole season would be equally bad. It was actually quite good.
As for Sun Wukong, I noticed that his personality has changed a lot. I don't think it's a bad thing, I just think it's a bit too early. I know that in the first two seasons he wasn't the best, and only at the end of the third one he started to redeem himself, until he had a complete internal transformation in the fourth one. In the 5th, he had a completely different personality and was just starting to take being MK's mentor seriously.
As soon as I saw Nezha in the trailer, I was hoping he would have more screen time. I honestly wanted to see a piece of him from the past. But I still really liked his presence in the season.
As for our gang, I wasn't disappointed at all. They retained their personalities and we got to know their relationships with each other. I liked that Sandy and Pigsy had their MK moment. Sandy didn't have much to do, except for the episode where he had to get a flower to cure MK's hiccups.
As for our main antagonist Xiangliu... I don't know what to think about him. I liked his look and personality, but I'm not sure about his contribution to the season. There was an angle with her, and the only thing we can deduce from the show is that he probably had some past with Macaque. In my opinion, he was the one who brought Lady Bone Demon to him so that she could "resurrect" him. Coming back, I hope his character will be developed more in the next season.
To sum up, the season itself wasn't bad, but I liked seasons three and four much more. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best either, probably because the creators made it quickly. I hope that in season six we will be able to see how Sun Wukong's journey in Journey to the West went.
