It’s been 10 years to the day that I posted the first chapter of Fight! Back then, it was titled “The Crown”, and I had no idea what I was doing (I still don’t, let’s be real). The Watty Awards were run differently back then, and somehow Fight ended up as the runner-up in the Historical Fiction genre. I still have the Wattpad t-shirt that I won from that (with the old logo and everything!). I owe a lot of who I am as a writer to the experiences I’ve had, the stories I’ve read, and the people I’ve met on Wattpad. Some of those people don’t have Wattpad accounts anymore, but I’d still like to thank them:

Amanda Pate (By Order of the King) was one of the first people I met on here, and she was an inspiration to me as a young writer! Unfortunately, she’s no longer on Wattpad—but keep your eye out for her name in historical fiction and fantasy!

@bookwormprincess has been such a dear friend and encourager! Always so supportive and kind, and a talented writer as well!

Jan M. Alexander (Close to Dark) is also no longer on Wattpad, but her keen understanding of storytelling helped me get The Way of the Sea to where it is currently (still a work in progress!). You can buy her Vampire fantasy novel on Amazon!

And of course, I never would have even started on this journey if it wasn’t for @jordy_marie, one of my best friends. Thank you, Jordan, for always inspiring me! (Also go check out her witty reads—you’ll love them all!)

And thank you to everyone who has stuck with me over the last decade. (I’m looking at you, @concussive ) I wouldn’t be here without you!

Such a touching message ❤️ Rarely does a day go by without me thinking of By Order of the King and To Save a Kingdom - such gems by the legendary Amanda Pate! I used to be a silent reader on Wattpad for so long before making an account, but seeing writers like yourself still on here after all these years never ceases to warm my heart ❤️ best of luck on your writing journey, now and forever :)

New (temporary) cover for The Way of the Sea! It’s a place holder while I enjoy trying to sketch/paint one digitally from scratch <3

Concerning the actual writing of The Way of the Sea….it’s slow, but it’s going. I keep thinking life will slow down, but does it ever do what you expect it to? Anyway, I’m eager to give you guys another chapter, but it’ll be a little while yet. Thanks for sticking with me!

@ExploringWonders Thanks for the encouragement! ☺️

Today is the last day to read the current version of Fight. I’ll be taking it down tonight. I don’t have a timeline for when the next draft will be up, but know that it will exist on Wattpad at some point. I won’t unpublish the entire book; I’ll keep the prologue up with the announcement of the rewrite in progress. And I’ll keep everyone updated there, as well, so feel free to add it to your reading list!

BriannaDGilmore

Thanks friend! I’m excited too! It’ll be a process, but I’m eager to get started. :)

*IMPORTANT PSA*

I’ve made the decision to take down Fight and Find while I’m rewriting them. I’ll leave them up for another month to allow readers to finish them, but then I’ll be unpublishing them. I feel that they no longer reflect my writing style, and I want to present a uniformed front on my profile when it comes to quality. Currently, Fight and Find do not meet the standard I have for myself and need a complete rewrite! (I wrote them when I was 14, and my understanding of the writing craft, as well as my understanding of the world, has grown and changed). Don’t worry, I’m not abandoning these projects; they will return, and when they do they’ll be richer, deeper, and stronger stories!

BriannaDGilmore

I feel like I need to make this public service announcement: “Fight” is not a fantasy novel. I repeat: “Fight” is NOT a fantasy novel. Lol based on the reading lists it keeps getting added to (thanks, btw), some of y’all are going to be real disappointed when Liliana does not save the day with magic and a pet dragon. That being said, I’m curious; those of you who saw the cover/read the summary and got Fantasy vibes, what made you think it was so? Other than desperately needing a complete rewrite, I’m making a list of things to change in order to market it more accurately. Any input y’all can give me would be uh-may-zing.

DraconicHeroes

Hey, as a writer I was wondering if you have any ideas for an aspiring writer such as myself?

BriannaDGilmore

@DraconicHeroes Oh of course!! I’ll message you when I get back from church—there’s a few resources that I really love that I can share with you!

@BriannaDGilmore oh sorry, I meant tips and tricks. I already have so many ideas I just have trouble with the writing part of it. How to best present characters, scenes and emotions...

@DraconicHeroes What kind of ideas are you referring to? Story ideas? I'll admit that I've lived in the words of my two series for so long that I'm not that great at generating new story ideas, lol! Or do you mean writing tips and tricks?

Hi Bri I really liked Fight and was wondering if you could write a sequel if you haven't already. Maybe have it be about the little boy who was introduced near the end. Just a thought....Good luck with your second draft

BriannaDGilmore

@DraconicHeroes Thank you!! I am planning a whole series, actually! I'm restructuring everything, but most of my original plans are still intact as of right now. It's going to be a slow process, but a second book is definitely in the works!

Can anyone guess what I’m working on?

Okay, I have to tell you!

So, I’ve been fighting writer’s block (even though I know what’s coming next in BWotS), and one of the things that’s helping is listening to writing podcasts and audiobooks. AND thinking about my other stories (you can thank said podcasts and audiobooks for that).

And so, after 8 years, I’m slowly returning to Fight (book 1 in the Crowns of Crecidia series) to write a second draft. I’m not putting aside By Way of the Sea; to the contrary, I believe that working my creative muscles with Fight will help me to move forward with BWotS. I’m in the VERY early planning stages of this second draft. And if I’ve learned anything from my time on Wattpad, it’s that staying ahead of your updates is a VIRTUE. So I won’t be posting for a while. But I’m so excited about reviving this project (I wrote it for the Watty’s when I was 14, yo) and I wanted to share my plan with you all! The plot will be drastically different, but if any of you who read Fight want to leave feedback or message me about the story, I’d welcome your thoughts! Thanks guys! You’re the best!
