Adam Galloway is a famous detective, known across the land for his charm and wit that may or may not have been played up in a book he wrote. He's well aware of the fact that he's only made it this far because he was able to marry a rich and much more famous woman so you don't need to remind him. Most often he investigates suicides and finds a way to convince the grieving families that it was an unfortunate accident.
Now after the death of his darling wife, he feels empty, lost. He's thrown himself into his work and drinking. His poor old man nerves can't handle much more. Life is cruel and short and at the rate Adam's going, it's only getting shorter.
