Illena Draekar had no idea why she applied to be a dragon rider.

She had her reasons, of course. But her reasons were a secret, and Illena was so full of them that she didn't know anymore what was a secret and what was just a fact. She had a plan, that was a fact. But the plan itself was a secret. The war was getting worse, that was a fact, and was also a fact that Illena was the one to blame for that. Which war? That was a secret. Why she was the one to blame? Also a secret. Why she had so many secrets and so many facts? Well, that's a secret. But I'll give you a fact: she thinks it's time to fight. And what better place to begin than Basgiath?

The marked ones were there. The dragons were there, the professors, the weapons, the lies, the reasons, they were all there.

The only thing she did not expect to be there was love. But love was for children, and Garrick surely wasn't one.

Illena may have fallen in love with him, anyway. But that was a secret as well.

And also a fact.

(This is a Fourth Wing fanfiction, the characters and the story belongs to Rebecca Yarros, only the main character, Illena, is original)

Hurling her back into a realm, she desperately fled, Hallie confronts a twisted reality where certainty withers like leaves in a storm. Each shadow conceals menace, and each face masks a potential betrayer. Join Hallie on her harrowing journey through this maelstrom of chaos, where every step forward plunges her deeper into the abyss, where the line between survival and oblivion blurs with each heartbeat. ○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○● The boy gasps and stares at me hard, his dark eyes breaking down every barrier I have ever built. "Hallie?" How does he know that? "Who the fuck are you?" I say as he reaches out for me. Vomryra lunges at him sensing my fear, but the man easily controls the shadows and holds her mid-air with them. He looks at me his eyebrows furrowed deeply. "Holy shit, it is you." He paces back and forth before finally answering my earlier question. "It's me, Xaden Riorson, your brother." DISCLAIMER: ALL RIGHTS BELONG TO REBBECCA YARROS (I do own some characters and events.) The Fanalis were a well-known people; the famed hunters and conquerors of the Dark Continent. With legs stronger than steel that could pierce a lion's heart with a single kick, they were a race to be feared. But also on the same land lived a dwindling race of people who were even more ferocious than the Fanalis. Rumored to fight like real monsters by ripping throats with sharp fangs, slicing to shreds with claws like daggers, and wielding the elements like gods in human form, this legendary race was believe to be naught but myth. The Drakonis. With their name akin to the mighty beasts of wing and scale, they fought with an unparalleled ferocity eagerly sought for by armies and empires. They were a deeply religious and strict society with laws that prevented outsiders from mingling to keep their bloodlines pure. As such their numbers began to dwindle and, with the ever growing demand for Drakonis and Fatalis slaves, their species became endangered. They could not be bred to produce more because each Drakonis can only choose one mate and can only have children with that one mate for the rest of their lives. If one mate was to die, then the other would feel like they had lost half their soul, but gaining a mate unlocks a Drakonis' full potential so not choosing a mate is like a bird never learning to fly. Purposeless. With their people hunted and lands razed, the mighty Drakonis faded into legend and their truths became gossip and the gossip became bedtime stories for children who wonder about adventure and travel. But there was one who hid her true identity, one who played human but always remembered her pride and home from whence she came. She took it upon herself to rebuild an empire for her people; one where they would not be threatened with extinction and isolation. But that's quite the tall order for a twelve year old girl, don't you think? She may just need a little help from our favorite miracle child. What do ya say? I only own Raz / my plot changes
