Wei Ying was thrown into the burial mounds by Wen Chao, he found Went Ning and together they managed to survive. When he got out, the war at nightless city was still going on, but with Wei Ying they managed to defeat the Wen's but ended up being exhausted at the end of the fight. Lan Zhan got worried over him because of the amount of resentful energy that Wei Ying held and ultimately decided to take him to cloud recesses. Lan Zhan on the other hand always tried his best to make Wei Ying feel safe and talk to him about how he was feeling, which always seemed to help the younger. The two had gotten to a point where they would spend every day and night together, becoming inseparable from each other, and that's when they both realized that they had feelings for each other.
