Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton grew up together as neighbors and best friends. Now at the ages of twenty two and twenty seven, propriety and their families dictate that they part ways, and settle into their roles as a Gentleman and Lady of the ton. Refusing to give up on their friendship, Colin comes up with a plan that will keep Penelope in his life.

Penelope goes on holiday with the Bridgerton family every year. However, Eloise is bringing her new boyfriend along this year, meaning Penelope is left sharing a room with the only single Bridgerton, Colin. How will she hide her feelings from him for two weeks? Penelope Bridgerton is left alone in her marital home, feeling lonely and lost when she has an unexpected revelation. She discovers that she is with child, two days after she sent the queen and her mother in law letters of being Lady Whistledown. She couldn't tell Colin, not after he still remained distanced from her, even after she poured her heart out to him and begged him to love her. Penelope decided she would flee Mayfair for the sake and the happiness of her child. Will Colin be able to stop her from going when he finds out she is missing? This story starts in season 3 episode 8 after Francesca's wedding, before the Butterfly Ball. As per the conversation between Polin at the Butterfly ball, it seems Colin was not staying with Pen in their house and she was all alone or they were apart even while being in the same house, it was not clear. I felt as though he had to be with her at such a time as a support and this is when Pen starts realising how lonely she is in this marriage. Here he is not staying with her.

Penelope Featherington was no longer the same after hearing Colin Bridgerton making fun of her at her mother's ball. She loved that man her entire life and he left her heartbroken . She decided to let go of those feelings and find a husband that will give her the liberty she needed. Will she be able to keep that attitude when Colin Bridgerton comes back in town? Will Colin realize that Penelope is the woman who was always there for him, the want that is able to make him stay still?

Colin continues his tour with a trip to Italy. However, when his letters to his dear friend, Penelope, go unanswered, he returns home early to see her. Penelope makes it clear that she does not wish to see him, leaving him quite distraught. In his room, Colin finds a love letter addressed to him, the traveling Bridgerton. He now has two goals this season; to get back into Penelope's good graces, and to find who wrote the letter. Penelope has goals this season as well; to find a husband, to get Eloise to forgive her, and to continue her role as Lady Whistledown.

Diana Featherington is the only child of the younger brother of the Baron Featherington. With the passing of both parents Diana has lived with the Baron and his wife since the age of five. Living across the street from the Bridgerton family has allowed for Diana to become close friends with Daphne. Both girls are making their debut into society this social season. Diana has high hopes of finding a future husband. But the one man she really wants she may not be able to have.
