I wrote it in January/February 2012 because it was going to be a long time until December 2012, and besides, I thought it would be great if Richard Armitage's character had a romance (although I know it's not going to happen). Everyone in Cranford Falls knows the Prescott family. Not only do they run Miss Fortune's Crystal occult shop in town, but they're also known for their psychic abilities. On occasion, they're even called into service to assist the police on particularly difficult cases. All except Alex Prescott, that is. Unlike her three sisters, she's inherited none of her family's gifts. At least that was what she thought until the day the dead guy showed up in her bedroom asking for her help in solving a murder. Six months after his brother Frerin's death, Detective Thorin Durin is on a downward spiral of self-destruction until Frerin starts showing up in his apartment, claiming his death was not an unfortunate accident but was, in fact a murder. Trouble is, Frerin doesn't know who did it, so he wants Thorin to reopen the case and solve it, with Alex's help. As they work together to find out just exactly what happened to Frerin, Alex and Thorin grow closer. Neither one knows it, but Frerin isn't just looking to solve his own murder, he's trying to help his brother cope with his loss as well, and to find happiness with the Prescott sister who's known as the quiet one...

Thorin only agreed to allow Sophie to live amongst them out of a sense of duty to Bifur, who is recovering from an odd head injury (is there any other way to describe having an axe blade lodged in one's head, only to have it later dislodged during the Battle of the Five Armies?) Before the battle, he spoke only khuzdul. But since it? He's regained the ability to speak Westron-if only he could but remember any of it. As for Thorin? He's trying his damndest to ignore his own growing feelings for her, even as he is also recovering from his near fatal wounding in the same battle. Both Sophie and Thorin are haunted by their pasts and are uncertain of their futures, but sometimes, chances must be taken...

Following the Battle of the Five Armies, a seriously wounded Thorin Oakenshield returns to Erebor to recuperate and eventually ascend the throne as king. With the deaths of Azog the Defiler and his son, Bolg, Thorin no longer has to worry about the bounty the Defiler placed on his head and can instead concentrate on restoring Erebor to its former glory. Nina Carren of Esgaroth has one goal-to make Thorin Oakenshield pay for unleashing Smaug the dragon unto her home-where he destroyed the town and killed her family. The Defiler might be gone, but his bounty remains very much in place, and she fully intends to collect on it. Finally, the opportunity shows itself for her to do just that, only to have it go horribly awry. Wounded and now at his mercy, neither Nina nor Thorin stopped to think what might happen, should things not go quite according to plan...

Along with this comes soul bound mates-that are a natural thing for skin changers, likewise for the dwarves it is finding their one. How will Thorin behave when he discovers his one in the powerful skin changer? He says he'll wait till the quest is over but can he make it that long? For the reader, it's a whole new journey in more ways than one. Neither parties want to give up their mate as they are only blessed with just one in a lifetime. Arielle Farran has no business being a valet to anyone, let alone to Thorin Oakenshield, but she really has no choice. Her twin brother, Elen was actually supposed to take the position, only to have a serious injury throw a wrench into the works and lands them in serious financial straits. Either she pretends to be him, or they lose the only home they've ever known. Reluctantly, Arielle agrees and shows up at Erebor's gates as Elen and from the moment she meets the King Under the Mountain, she knows she's in trouble. It's only a matter of time before she gets caught, she just knows it. Thorin doesn't really want a valet, but his sister Dis has decided otherwise and since it's easier to give in than fight with her, a valet will soon be his. But when he meets Elen Farran, he senses something isn't quite as it should be where he's concerned. But, since he can't just outright accuse Elen of playing false without any proof, Thorin decides to play along until Elen comes clean of his own volition.

Although Erebor is his once more, Thorin knows there is still a great threat to the peace of Middle Earth. Azog is gone, but another has taken his place and has sworn to finish what Azog began. Erebor is back, but it's sadly lacking in protection and as much as he hates the thought of it, Thorin knows there is one thing that will guarantee the safety and continuation of his line. War is coming and all Eirlys of Mirkwood wishes to do is fight alongside her brother Legolas and the other elves, united with Men and Dwarves in their attempt to quell the renewed tensions between them and the orc army of the north. But, her father, Thranduíl has other plans. Unite his kingdom with the newly reestablished kingdom of Erebor and use the power of both to defeat the orcs. An arranged marriage that neither side wants, but both sides need. But what happens when the two sides realize that maybe-just maybe-being together isn't quite as bad as they'd thought...
