"Hello, and, again, welcome to the Aperture Science computer-aided enrichment center." In a time when the events of Portal or Portal 2 never happened, you have woken up from a deep sleep, greeted by GLaDOS, a robotic machine who will guide you through the many portal-adapted chambers of Aperture Science. However, GLaDOS seems bent on making sure you continue testing... forever. She won't let anybody halt her testing. Getting in her way risks death. And maybe a cake. (Note: I do NOT own Valve or the Portal series. This is just a fun little fanfiction story.)

[Before this book starts I just want to clarify that this is my first ever legit story so I'll be almost as sorry as Wheatley if it turns out bad. I also want to clarify that it contains spoilers of the real game.] So there he was, the core was there, floating aimlessly throughout the cold, vast space for eternity, with his so called 'Space Partner', trying to keep himself amused. And there she was, the dangerous, mute, lunatic, out of Aperture. Wandering upon the wheat field about her. The core and the mute had had their times, their moments, good and bad, they don't have much in common. Except for one emotion...

Wheatley, hacker under the employ of Aperture Laboratories, somehow ends up on the GLaDOS Project. His job: To teach her until she's able to learn on her own. But as happens with the best students, Wheatley ends up being the one learning the lessons...

Test. That was what she did, and Subject 3281 did it well. She was the model subject, fit, strong, on time, and most of all... obedient. That's how she was, until one fateful day, when the higher-ups at Aperture Science figured that they could get more out of their testing if two subjects were present, and so launched the "Aperture Science Co-operative Testing Initiative", pairing Subject 3281 with another Test subject. A boy. A boy who forced Subject 3281 to re-think her complacency, to yearn for freedom as they all did. To begin thinking like the girl she had been; instead of the person she had become. ~----------------------------------~ So, I was writing a short story one day, and realized that--with a bit of tweaking--this could turn into a Portal 2 fan-fic! While I do believe that Blue Sky is the BEST fan-fic for Portal 2 out there, and deserves to be canon, I think that this is still a relatively believable Chell backstory. (This is set after Cave Johnson's death, and before Caroline/GLaDOS killed everyone but the test subjects with neurotoxin, and placed Chell in stasis.) Enjoy! This is not a Chelley fan-fic, and doesn't include Wheatley, as this is set prior to the timeline of the first game. I don't own Portal, Portal 2, or the Characters in the game; but this story is my own, from my imagination. I also don't own the amazing cover art, and I don't know who does... same goes for the chapter art, they're all either off of Google or Pinterest! 😂 P.S. the first chapter sort of "sets the scene" for the rest of the book, so bear with me!

The human race is a lost cause as far as GLaDOS is concerned, but there just might be one person worth her time.

We all know that the Aperture scientists installed a Morality Core in GLaDOS to make her behave, but how did she get around it? And why does she bother? This fic aims to provide one answer.

Against her better judgement, Chell jumps back into peril for someone she used to call a friend. However, when she finds him, he's different. Much different... and now she's somehow stuck teaching him how to be human. - NEW FIC FOR A DEAD FANBASE TT_TT The first few parts probably require at least having seen the end of Portal 2! When she recognized the voice of one of the androids, Chell jolts out of Aperture, with the androids following behind her. The three struggle to adapt in a desolate town. Chaos unfolds as she discovers how little memory her old companion has of the incident that caused her so much pain.
