Violetta (Violet) Jackson has big dreams. None of which happen to include sitting in detention for a week straight for a lab disaster that wasn't even her fault. That's all thanks to Will Hawthorne, his friends (one of whom she unfortunately used to date and now torments her whenever he gets the chance), as well as a coincidental meeting with a kindhearted woman who Violet discovers to be Will's mother. Violet's goal remains unwavering - keep her head down at school and win the upcoming battle of the bands contest that would enable her to pursue her music career - but with Will now intrigued by her inexplicably taking the fall for him, that goal is easier said than done. Still, Will begins to prove himself as more than just a temporary derailing of all her best-laid plans, and Violet starts to see a side of him she's never paid attention to before - his optimism, contagious enthusiasm, and nerdy, unabashed love for anything to do with outer space. But as the end of senior year and the deadline for the contest approaches, Violet's hope of staying in the shadows starts to crumble and cause turmoil for her and her dreams in more ways than one. A story about love, loss, family, friends, dreams, music, and letting your true self shine through. He brushed his lips against my jaw, his dark hair falling over his brow. "Open your eyes," he commanded. "Look at me." I followed his orders and looked into the raven-black depths before me. I saw my entranced gaze reflected in his glaring one. "Tell me what you see." I kept on looking at him, searching for something, anything, that remained of the person he used to be. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. But his eyes were so dark, so empty . . . "Nothing. I see nothing," I whispered. He smirked, his gaze still on me. He pulled away, leaving me feeling cold. "Exactly. You see nothing - that's because there's nothing there." ** How much can a person change in just three years? Short and full of fiery spirit, Hanna Jordan is a gifted college student who is enrolled in one of the most prestigious culinary programs in the country. She's just returned from three years of study in France and is anxious to reconnect with her longtime friend, Rian Aronhalt. However, when she does finally see him, she's startled to find that he's become an entirely different person. Cold, ill-tempered, and exceptionally attractive, Rian is absolutely nothing like his old self. Worst of all, he claims he doesn't even remember her. Despite their differences, both are haunted by dark memories of the past, which form a poisonous bond between Hanna and Rian that neither can escape from. Can they both heal from the scars time left behind, and find love in the process?

My name is Delaney and this is my story. I feel compelled to give you fair warning before you embark on my journey. It's messy. It's chock-full of terrible choices and split-second decisions filled with bad judgment. It's rough, complicated and angsty-but, hey, isn't that what real life is? You live and learn through experience. You (hopefully) mature and don't make the same mistakes twice. These, however, are tough lessons to learn when you're trying to navigate through. Sure, dear reader, you will have ideas of how I could've handled it all better-I know I certainly do, in retrospect. But, I'm me. I'm human. And to err is human, right? Isn't that the popular quote people love to use as an excuse? Well-there it is. Read my life story, I dare you, but remember you've been warned. The divorce of her parents does not come as a surprise to Delaney, however her mother's swift decision to relocate to Florida throws her for a loop. After enrolling in classes at university, she makes fast friends with Shane, the quintessentially perfect guy. Jaded by her past experiences with relationships, Shane completely confounds her. He represents everything Delaney believed didn't exist in real life; stability, security and good old-fashioned kindness. It should be effortless. With Shane, it's exactly the type of happily-ever-after story she loves to read, as well as write. Enter Fin: the edgy, risk-taking artist that unrelentingly captivates her attention. Soon after becoming her partner in literature class, he becomes her one and only copyeditor and most trusted confidant. Torn between two different worlds, Delaney stumbles through a range of decisions that lead her on an unexpected journey. She finds herself left with an impossible choice: A life of contentedness filled with ease and love or a passion-filled wild ride that leaves her breathless. However, Delaney also discovers that sometimes the seemingly unimportant everyday decisions end up making the choices for you...

Review: I read this whole book in one night, I just couldn't put it down. So why should you read it? Amazing writing. Emotive story line. Well-rounded and developed characters and an ending that had me smiling with satisfaction while I did a fist bump in the air. - WattMag
