Chapter 6: Cooking

"I have no problem with cooking...but..." I watch Bakugo blow up one of the grills, Mineta almost cut himself trying to cut vegetables, and other students horribly failing at the culinary arts. "Do people not cook at all?"

"I guess not."

I look to my side and see one of my fellow classmates, "Oh, hi Shouji!"

His mask shifted a little, indicating that he smiled, "How are you Y/n?"

"Oh I've been...well it's been interesting."

He nodded as he stared at me with curious eyes.

Satou called us over, "Hey, Y/n! Shouji! You wanna come help over here?"

We looked at each other and nodded before walking over to Satou, Testutestu, Kendo, Ojiro, and Aoyama.

"So, what's going on over here?" I asked smiling as I see cutting bored and pots along with a stove.

Aoyama's head perked up at the sound of my voice, "Ah Mademoiselle! You look as stunning as ever! Oh you sparkle brighter than the sun!"

I laugh as the blonde boy spins me around before our hands loose grip and im thrown to Ojiro.

"Woah, you okay?" He smiled down at me, his arms around me to keep me steady.

I smiled back warmly, "Yeah, thanks."

"Y/n! Long time no see huh?!"

I turn around and see Kendo and Tetsutetsu waving at me with smiles, "Yeah, how have you guys been?"

Kendo smiled, "Just great! Although Monoma's becoming a real handful!"

I laughed before I was cut off by Tetsutetsu giving me a hug.

He let go and scratched his head with his signature grin, "Sorry! I just missed you."

A chuckle escapes my lips as I wave him off, "Don't worry about it!"

"Y/n." Shouji waved me over so that I can start helping with cutting the vegetables.

"Hey y/n, I didn't see you with your class while training was going on. Where were you?" Tetsutetsu asked while we both cut vegetables.

Ojiro, Satou, and the others joined into the conversation.

"Yeah, I was wondering where you went."

Satou agreed with Ojiro, "You totally disappeared after Mr.Aizawa gave out instructions."

Our Class B friend, Kendo, nodded, "Were you training somewhere else?"

I looked down at the cutting bored and watched the knife slowly go through the carrot, "Oh yeah...Aizawa had me use a lot of my quirk and there wasn't really enough space so he had me go deeper into the forest."

Shouji nodded his head, "That makes sense."

I smiled down sadly at the chopped vegetable, "Yeah."

Everyone indulged in their own conversation once again while I continued to slide the vegetables into a pot.

"You seem troubled. Everything okay?"

I look up at the masked boy and smile, "I'm just a little confused with things right now."

Shouji handed me a washed vegetable and I began to cut it again.

He turned towards me, "You're confused with how to cut the vegetables? I can show you if you want."

I shake my head with a smile, "Oh no that's not what I was talking about!"

"Well it sure looks like it." He mentioned towards the half cut vegetable.

I tilt my head to the side, "Huh? What do you mean? What's wrong with the way I cut?"

"Nothing really, it's just the pieces aren't even and they aren't clean cuts." He grabs one of the pieces I cut and shows it to me. "See."

I looked at the piece and, like he said, it wasn't the best cut.

Ah, this is what I get for ordering take out so much...

"Here try to cut it like this." He reached out to my hand but before he touched it he asked, "May I?"

I smile.

What a gentleman.

"Yeah, I don't mind."

Shouji gently grabs my hand and placed his right hand on mine and his left hand on my left. He shows me where to place my left hand and how to correctly cut with my right.

"See," He let's go and steps back in order to give me space, "It's seems like you're a natural. Like always."

My gaze shifts from the nicely cut vegetables to Shouji who began washing vegetables again. "I wouldn't say always...Anyways, Shouji, you seem really good at cooking. Do you cook often?"

He nods, "I plan to move out and live on my own once I graduate here from UA. I don't want to live off of fast food. Plus I cook for my mom to show my appreciation for her."

My eyes widened slightly as I watched him finish up washing the vegetables before drying his hands.

Woah hold on. He really is a gentleman. What the-

"Hey Y/n! Look at my vegetables!"

I look over to see Tetsutetsu with poorly cut vegetables on his cutting board, "Ah...it seems you need lessons from Shouji too."

The two boys looked at each other before looking away and saying, simultaneously, "No thanks."

My eyebrows furrowed at them in confusion before shrugging my shoulders.

"Aoyama it's not gonna ruin your hands!"

I look over to see Ojiro trying to handle Aoyama while Satou sweat drops next to them.

Drying my hands with a small towel, I walk over to them and ask what was happening only for them to say that Aoyama didn't want to wash the rice because it'd "ruin his smooth sparkly skin".

Ojiro sighed before turning to me, "Y/n, please tell him."

I smiled at him before turning to Aoyama and rolling up my sleeves, "It really won't mess up your skin, Aoyama. Here look, I'll show you."

Aoyama quickly grabbed my hands before I could dip them in the water, "No! You mustn't do that! You're smooth, soft, sparkly hands will be ruined!"

Did this man just use three adjectives, all starting with the letter 'S'?

Ojiro looked at Aoyama and then at me and then to our hands before sighing and walking to the rice pot causing us to let go of each other's hands, "Nevermind, I'll just do it."

I sweatdropped as Aoyama cheered and started twirling around. I walked over to Ojiro and smiled at him, "Thanks."

He nodded at me with a smile, "Of course, anytime."

A motion in the corner of my eye caught my attention as I saw his tail wag a little, "I never really told you how much I like your quirk."

"Huh?" He asked startled. "Really? You like it? Everyone says that it's kind of...basic."

I watched him awkwardly laugh it off, but I could sense a bit of sadness underneath his tone. I shook my head, "I think that's what I like most about it."

He looked at me confused so I went on.

"Well, heroes these days, and aspiring heroes, tend to think that flashy quirks are the best but that's just not true. At least to me it's not."

Satou joined the conversation, "Why not? All the heroes with flashy quirks are always loved and have the most fans."

I shook my head and sighed, "Is that really what a hero is though? Publicity and fame? A true hero doesn't need a flashy quirk, or any at that, to want to save people and actually follow through. They risk their lives for others."

Kendo smiles at me, "I agree."

I smile back before sighing again, "I mean so what if your quirk is basic Ojiro. I like it because you put it to use and you use it to save others. I like it cause you don't rely on your quirks strength, but you rely on your own strength."

Ojiro smiled at me, "Thank you, Y/n. that means a lot."

I winked at him with a smile, "No problem."

His smile widened before he looked back down at the rice, a smile still resting on his lips.

My eyes lingered on his smile a little while before I heard my name being called. I looked around and saw a half white and half red haired boy motioning for me to come over there.

I smiled to the group I was with, before walking over to Todoroki's group, "Whats up, Todo?"

He motioned toward the grill, "If you don't mind, Y/n, can we get some wood?"

I tilted my head, "Why was there not already wood?"

Todoroki kept his signature blank face as he talked gently with me, "They said it's because we already had someone to help with wood and didn't want to help us anymore than they have."

I sweatdropped, "Ah, right." I straightened up my posture and smiled at him, "Yeah, I can give you guys some wood, no problem!"

He smiled slightly, "Thank you."

We both crouched down to the grills level and nodded to each other. I created a few wooden logs before nodding to Todoroki as a gesture for him to light it, which is what he proceeded to do.

Once the logs were on fire we watched the flames go up and the light illuminated our faces.

We both looked at each other at the same time and smiled warmly. The two of us stood up and took a step back from the group.

I turned to Todoroki with a soft smile, "Your fire is really beautiful."

He seemed a bit taken back before he smiled gently at the ground.

A heavy feeling suddenly arose in my chest, but as quick as it came, it vanished. My heart skipped a beat.

When Todorki looked back up at me with that smile and expression, I couldn't help it. I don't blame my heart for skipping a beat.

His heterochromia eyes stood out more and you could see the fire's reflection in them. This unusually soft expression he had on his face was not something I was used to, or rather, it's something I haven't seen since we were babies.

"Yes," He replied back in a mellow tone. "Yes, I think so too."

"Well look at that..." I overhear Uraraka say.
Todoroki walked away to help with more girls after saying goodbye to me and I stand there wand watch his back get further away from my view.

"I...didn't even think that was a thing..."

Mina agrees with Hagakure, "Forget Bakugo, Midoriya, and Shiba...why were we not seeing Todoroki?"

Hagakure tilted her head and put her hands together, "Well...in the landslide zone in USJ they didn't seem to get along, but they seemed to have known each other in the past."

I toned their conversation out and sat down at a table.

A figure came up and sat next to me, "Tired? Kero."

I smiled at Tsu, "What? You mean you don't want to ship me with the guys in our class with the other girls?"

Tsu looked over at the three girls gossiping before she shook her head, "No thank you."

My smile widened as I faced her, "Well now I'm curious. Who do you ship me with?"

Tsu smiles at me, "Whoever you want be with, Kero. I like to say what's on my mind and I think shipping people puts a lot of pressure on the two people that's being shipped. I don't want to put you through that. Kero."

My eyes widened slightly, it startled me how honest and kind she was being. "Thank you, Tsu."

I snuck away from everyone as they all ate and sat down in a clearing in the forest.

It's good to have some time to just relax.

"Aha! Just wait till everyone finds out that Class 1-A is full of class ditching, bad kids! I knew you guys were nothing, but trouble!"

Ah I know that voice and attitude from anywhere.

I look behind me to see the one and only Monoma pointing at me. "Monoma...it's lunch. Exactly what class am I ditching?"

He seemed taken back before nervously looking around and trying to fix himself, "W-Well, you're still ditching! So!"

I chuckled and motioned him to sit down next to me, "Come here Monoma."

"H-huh? No! Why would I ever-"

I cut him off by pulling him down to the grass with me.

"What is your-"

I cut him off again by grabbing his chin and pushing it up so that he sees the stars.

He moved his head to the side to get my hand off his face before looking at me with an "irritated" look. "What? They're just stupid stars."

A chuckle escapes my lips, "You don't actually mean that do you?"

The blonde haired boy stayed silent, but looked up at the stars and smiled nonetheless.

I smiled and nudge him gently, "I didn't knwo you were a sucker for the little things in life too."

He glared at me and nudged me back, "What are you talking about."

I shake my head as a smile rested on my lips, "Nothing, nothing."

We sat there in silence as we stared at the stares.

"Do you do this often?"

I nodded, "I love sunsets and the stars. Even just clouds or watching the trees sway in the wind. It's a beautiful thing. It helps me forget about all the bad things in life and all of my responsibilities."

"Like how a flower can still look beautiful even after loosing a petal. And then it looks even more graceful when the wind makes it dance and a whole field of them move together."

My eyes widened at Monoma's response, "Monoma..."

He didn't dare to look at me as he stood up and walked off, "Shut up, Y/n. Tell anyone about this and your class' reputation is over. I'll tell everyone you guys are always ditching."

I shook my head as he walked off while manically laughing.

"Cheating on your boydriend already? Tsk tsk tsk, you should know better Kuto."

I immediately stood up. That voice wasn't Itsuki's...rather...

The half burned man stepped out of the shadows with a smirk and his head tilted slightly.

I rolled my eyes and sat back down on the soft grass, "Dabi."

"What?" His smirk dropped. "Not happy to see me?"

I sigh as I lay down on the grass, "You know only Itsuki calls me that."

Dabi clicked his tongue in annoyance, "What, did he claim you or something? What's he gonna do if I start calling you that?"

My arms shifted and I placed them behind my head to make myself more comfortable, "I don't know why don't you ask him."

"Oh I so would." Dabi sat down next to me, his arm leaning on his propped up knee while the other leg was stretched out onto the grass. "But he's on his death bed right now trying to get some pills."

I punched him in the side as I sat up, "That's not funny you ass hole."

A smirk took over his lips before he reached his hand out to my hair.

I backed away slightly before just letting him do his thing.

He stopped at the right side of my hair and activated his quirk only for a second, burning a leaf that was stuck in my hair.

I pushed him out of annoyance but he grabbed my arms so I was stuck close to him. Our legs were in between each other but we were both kneeling on the grass. He held my forearms with a smirk as I kept an annoyed facial expression.

"What? Too far?" He asked, slightly laughing.

I try to smack him but he has my arms in his grip, "Yes you asshole. What if you set my hair on fire, huh?!"

He leaned forward with a smug smile, "Then you'd be bald. That's common sense, Y/n."

I leaned closer too as a gesture to show I wasn't backing down. "I am so gonna kill you."

Dabi's blue eyes really went witht he scenery. The night sky complimented his raven hair and, even more so, his eyes.

They glowed slightly in the dark night as he said, "I'd like to see you try."

Before either of us could say anything else I hear someone calling my name causing Dabi to quickly let go and walk away.

"Don't worry, Y/n. We'll see each other soon."

I don't know why, but I couldn't take my eyes off of him until the moment he disappeared back into the shadows. I've seen his eyes glow like that quite a few times, although I still haven't gotten used to it.

"Y/n! Everyone was looking for you! Come on it's time to head to bed." Sero said with a smile as he held his hand out towards me.

He helped me up off the ground and we both ran back to camp.
