The next day, Kagurama woke up at 4:00 a.m. sharp, and began washing up for the training exercise her team was going to do in order to become genin. She grabbed the regular katana she had, deciding against using the Second Hokage's blade, and strapped it onto her hip. Her outfit was just a plain navy blue tank top, along with baggy green joggers and a white sash tied around her waist. The girl only had one ninja pouch strapped on her right thigh that held a couple of Kunai knives and shuriken.
Seeing that it was now 5:06, Kagurama put her sandals on and headed outside. She didn't really care she was going to be late, remembering what Kakashi Hatake told her yesterday. The words, 'don't eat breakfast' had little effect since Kagurama didn't really have any food stocked up in her fridge. Her being in a far too foul mood the day before to go buy the groceries she needed. The girl with dual hair honestly wasn't that bothered since she's gone days without food before.
"You're late." Already she was in a foul mood, and hearing the annoying voice of a certain Uchiha was starting to piss her off.
"Hmph." Kagurama merely crossed her arms, and looked away from him.
"Relax Sasuke. She's only 20 minutes late, and Sensei isn't even here." Naruto quickly defended the dual hair colored girl who looked as if she couldn't give two shits about the situation.
Sasuke glared at his blonde teammate, and shoved his hands in his pocket. He too turned away from the two, adorning a similar expression as Kagurama.
Naruto sighed at the two who were supposed to be his teammate, and opted to sitting down on the floor. It was just his luck that he had the the two most anti-social, rude, and stuck up people on his team.
Sasuke on one hand was the Namikaze's friend, therefore he didn't mind his personality all that much. Kagurama on the other hand was a different story. Sure he joined the girl in pulling pranks sometimes, but he's never really had a decent conversation with her. Though that wasn't really her fault since Naruto was never all that interested in actually getting to know her. All he really knew about Kagurama, was that she was an orphan who was hated by most of the adults in the village.
Sensing eyes on her, Kagurama turned around to see blue eyes staring intensely in her direction. She raised a brow and made a 'what' expression with her face. When he didn't respond to her, she simply shrugged her shoulders and turned back around.
To her, the Namikaze was an annoying ball of energy that seemed to love getting on her nerves. She hated how he never had to face the consequences of his actions, just because he was the Hokage's son. The day the two painted the Kage mountains, Kagurama spent 7 hours scrubbing the paint off all by herself while Naruto went home to have dinner with his family.
She didn't even feel guilty seeing the faint bruise on his cheek from where she punched him the day before. In fact, she felt like he deserved it.
'Spoiled entitled brat.' The girl thought to herself, and walked away from the two. She headed over to a tree, sat down on the floor and leaned up against it.
4 hours later.
"Good morning team!" A cheerful voice called out to the group who were all sitting on the floor, leaned up again trees away from each other.
Simultaneously, Naruto, Kagurama, and Sasuke jumped up.
"You're late!" Naruto shouted and pointed an accusing finger at the Jōnin who released a carefree chuckle in response.
"Sorry a black cat crossed my path, so I had to take the long way." He gave such lame excuse, that none of them believed him.
"YOUR LYING!!" He said once more even more angry at the carefree manner their Sensei was responding in. He wasted 4 hours of their time, supposedly avoiding a black cat, which was honestly ridiculous.
"Alright, alright, settle down." The Jōnin said as he calmed his students down, and then went to explain that their goal today was to take two bells from him. When Naruto asked why he had only two, he stated that only two of them would pass to become Genin. Whoever doesn't get a bell will be sent back to the academy.
"Also, if no one gets the bells by noon, I'm going to strap all of you to those poles and make you watch me eat my lunch." He finished his explanation by pointing at three wooden poles.
Simultaneously, three stomachs rumbled. indicating clear hunger.
"If you were going to have us starve as a punishment, why did you insist on us skipping breakfast?!" Kagurama exclaimed, more than annoyed. She hadn't eaten for more than a day and now hearing that she would be forced to watch their Jōnin sensei enjoy his fools while they starved, infuriated her.
"You're the idiots for not preparing wisely. What kinds Shinobi doesn't eat breakfast knowing they're going to be doing a survival exercise?" Kakashi asked them as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Thinking back to what they learned in the academy, the Genin realized their mistake. It was true that they learned in the academy that they should never enter a mission with an empty stomach.
With that, the bell test began for Team 7, and then they all jumped back into the trees, hiding from their Sensei.
Kagurama was high up in a tree watching Naruto confront Kakashi-Sensei head on for the bells. He had good taijutsu techniques, and even did some C-ranked wind jutsu's at him in an attempt to get a bell.
Just as she was going to admit that she was impressed, Kakashi appeared behind Naruto, and poked him hard in the ass with his fingers in the seal of the tiger.
This in turn sent him flying into the small lake.
'What the...' she thought to herself in disgust seeing that their Sensei was only playing around. She jumped down from the tree when she sensed a presence from below her.
Sasuke who was sneaking around, froze once he felt a gust of wind from above him. He quickly looked up, and widened his eyes seeing Kagurama falling down towards him.
"H-hey!" He exclaimed, jumping back. He almost got crushed by her outstretched foot that looked like it was intentionally out to kick him.
When she landed in front of him she readjusted the sword on her hip, and crossed her shoulders.
"I have come up with a plan." She said, leaning into Sasuke. The Uchiha raised a brow, waiting for her to continue speaking.
When she didn't, he opened his mouth to question her, but stopped seeing her looking around cautiously.
"Not here. Someone is listening in on us." She whispered and grabbed him by the arm.
"What are you talking about?!" Sasuke snapped trying to pull his arm out from Kagurama's grasp, but she shushed him, and dragged him into a deeper part of the woods they were in.
"Okay, this location should be quite efficient." She pulled Sasuke down so they were both crouched down in a bush. The boy was still confused as to why she chose to drag him there, but decided to refrain against questioning her again. He assumed when she said someone was listening, it was probably their Sensei because after his confrontation with Naruto, he completely disappeared.
"I'm thinking, we kill our Sensei, get promoted to Jōnin and boom we don't have to do this stupid test." Kagurama said, completely serious. Sasuke squinted his eyes at her, wondering if he heard her right.
"Are you okay in the head?" He questioned when her face didn't even twitch.
"Hah?!"
"No seriously. Do you have some loose screws up there?" Sasuke whisper shouted and poked her forehead hard. Kagurama grabbed that same finger, and pushed it away from her harshly.
"Okay fine! It was a bad idea but you don't have to be so rude about it!" She responded, obviously annoyed. Sasuke couldn't believe that she was actually serious, and wanted nothing more than to ditch her and go face Kakashi himself, but he knew that even with his training from his father, he wouldn't be able to take on a Jōnin on his own right now.
His best bet was to partner up with Naruto, and the two of them would pass as Genin, leaving Kagurama to be sent back to the academy.
'It's not like she has anyone to disappoint if she fails-!' Sasuke cut his thoughts off once he realized just what he was thinking. Guilt swirled up in his stomach.
"Hold on-where's our Sensei?!" Kagurama suddenly exclaimed with a worried expression. She could sense him just fine moments prior, but all of a sudden, all traces of him disappeared.
"What do you-!" Sasuke was cut off when something grabbed his ankles. Kagurama jumped back, and Sasuke stood up to see hands had dug themselves up from the ground, and were firmly gripping him.
"I'm below you!" A voice echoed from the ground, and Sasuke was dragged down into the ground whilst screaming.
Kakashi dug himself out from the floor, and patted Sasuke's head mockingly before turning to face Kagurama.
"I don't know what lovers escapade you two were having, but we are still in the middle of our test." He now mocked the girl. Kagurama in return glared at him.
"Do not ever call us lovers. If you think I would go for someone as unappealing as him-!" She started whilst pulling out the sword from its sheath, and lunged at him. "Then you've clearly lost your mind!" Kakashi pulled out a Kunai knife, and easily blocked her swing.
His eyes widened at the force of Kagurama's attack, not expecting his feet to begin to sink into the ground below him. Kakashi threw her back, and threw multiple shurikens at her, which were all deflected by her katana.
"Your academy report never stated you knew how to wield a katana." He said to the girl. She stabbed her sword in the ground, and lunged at him with her fists.
"Enough talking and take this seriously!" She growled annoyed at the Jōnin who was clearly toying with her. Kakashi hummed in response, but he still wasn't taking the fight seriously. He kept lazily dodging her attacks, and even pulled out the book he was reading earlier to further piss off Kagurama.
Just as she thought she saw an opening for the bells, she was kicked in the stomach, sending her crashing into the ground with a hard thud.
"You're going to have to try harder if you want me to close my book." Kakashi mocked the girl. Already angry from the attack, Kagurama released a frustrated scream and began weaving hand seals.
Kakashi narrowed his eyes at the seal she was doing at a painfully slow rate and then widened them once he realized what Jutsu it was.
'She shouldn't have the knowledge of a Jutsu like that-!'
"Suiton: Teppōdama no Jutsu!" Kagurama shot out a water bullet that was flying at Kakashi, but he didn't have to do much to dodge it.
'She can do the jutsu well, but she can't control it. I should probably put her out!' Kakashi thought to himself, and appeared right before Kagurama.
"Huh-?!" Before she could even continue speaking, she released a strangled gasp of pain when the Jōnin punched her square in the stomach. Kagurama stumbled back as she held onto her stomach in pain before collapsing on her knees. She then began dry heaving onto the floor since her stomach was too empty to actually vomit.
"Kids like you shouldn't get took cocky, ya know?" Kakashi walked up to the Genin, and squatted down to her level. Kagurama weakly reached her hand up, and grabbed his foot. "This is almost too sad, really." Her supposed teacher continued to mock her, which made her tighten her grip even more.
In that exact moment, Kakashi heard something rustling behind him, and just as he tried to turn around, he realized he was stuck in place.
Kagurama had chakra surrounding the hand that was holding his leg in place.
*jingle*
There was a soft jingling noise which made Kakashi use his brute force to kick Kagurama square in the face, making her let him go, which also allowed him to jump away from the boy who was attacking him.
"You-!"
"Did you get them?!" Kagurama's voice was muffled as she held her nose in pain.
Sasuke revealed himself, completely dug out from the ground. His hand was held in a fist, clearly holding something.
"Only got one." Sasuke gritted out making Kagurama groan.
"How did you pull yourself out from the ground? And since when did you guys plan on getting the bells together?!" Kakashi interrogated the two Genin that completely blind sided him. He almost felt embarrassed with himself for not being on high alert.
Kagurama grinned triumphantly, seeing that their Sensei was beginning to take them seriously. She pointed at the sword sticking out from the floor, and when she did this, both Kakashi and Sasuke could see a faint line of pure chakra going from her finger to the hilt of the blade.
"You think I discarded my weapon for no reason? I was sending shockwaves of my chakra into the ground to weaken the dirt. I also purposely missed you with my jutsu so the water would end up hitting the ground right next to Sasuke, making it easy for him to escape. Since Sasuke has a high level of intelligence, I knew he would catch on to what I was doing!" Kagurama unconsciously complimented the Uchiha, who smirked in response.
'Their teamwork is impeccable! If only they found a way to team up with Naruto, I would have passed them on the spot!' Kakashi thought to himself.
"You guys still need to grab one more bell and you only have 15 minutes. Let's see you catch me!" And with that, he disappeared with a substitution.
"Dammit!!" Kagurama shouted out loud.
"Hey, did you notice that look on his face when he asked us about our plan?" Sasuke grabbed the attention of the girl who was punching the floor whilst throwing a tantrum.
"What are you talking about? By the way Naruto is headed over here." Kagurama suddenly announced the presence she felt.
"Since when are you a sensor?" Sasuke finally voiced what's been nagging at him throughout the whole exercise.
"Uhh always? It's not like we were ever close enough for me to disclose that information in the first place." Kagurama said this like it was the most obvious thing in the world. She rolled her eyes at Sasuke's clear annoyance and gestured behind him.
When he turned his head, Naruto poked out from behind a tree.
He looked rather embarrassed and scratched his cheek.
"So... you guys got a bell?" He quietly asked them. Both Kagurama and Sasuke looked at each other and then looked back at Naruto with matching smirks.
"Yeah, we're not losers like you." Sasuke teased the blonde. Instead of getting irritated, Naruto faltered onto the ground in a pile of depression.
"Dang it... I guess I'm going to be the one to be sent back to the academy. " he said dejectedly.
It was silent between the three.
Sasuke was holding his bell tightly.
Naruto sat depressed on the ground.
Kagurama had a contemplative expression while crossing her arms. She scrunched her eyebrows and looked down, making an expression as if she was trying to solve a difficult problem.
"What is it?" Sasuke asked her when he noticed her demeanor.
"I'm trying to come up with a strategy to get the bells, but I can't see us getting the final bell without working together, however that still leaves someone getting sent to the academy." Kagurama explained her thoughts, and furrowed her eyebrows even more.
"Working together? Then why would there only be two bells if we had to work together to get them?!" Naruto questioned her with narrowed eyes. He wanted to further argue, but Sasuke grabbed his shoulder.
"I'm going to have to agree with Kagurama, Naruto. We only managed to get one bell by working together in the first place." Sasuke started his explanation. He was thinking back on the encounter they had with Kakashi when they stole the bell earlier. "Let's just get the bell together, and we'll decide who keeps it after. Listen closely, I have a plan." Sasuke gestured them to come closer, and began whispering his plan.
