"Are you fucking serious?" I yelled at Sabrina. New Year's Day, hangovers in combination with a lack of sleep caused quite some arguments already. Our toes curled in the sand. A towel wrapped around our bodies while we walked into the wind in direction of the ocean.
We literally drove for more than an hour to the beach to participate in Sabrina's tradition: the New Years dive. Many people had gathered at the beach as well. Some just wanted to watch the idiots in swimsuits like Sabrina and I run into the cold water. I managed to convince Lando to go with us, though he immediately regretted the promise when he took off his hoodie. I hugged myself for more warmth and handed Soph, who already laughed her ass off, my clothes and towel.
I scrunched my face and bit my lip while a small wave of water met my feet. Sabrina, who was the one with the idea to do this, waited for me to walk into the water. "Pussy!" She yelled, I barked in response. I couldn't stand it if people told I didn't dare to do something, it caused some dangerous activities in the past. I rolled my eyes and sighed, quickening my pace until the freezing water stood at the height of my hips. I looked over my shoulder, Lando's mouth hung open as he covered his stomach with his arms. "Is it cold?" Sabrina asked, holding the hand of her girlfriend.
I shook my head and kicked some water in their direction. Sarah flinched and took a step back. Sabrina dragged her along into the water and a scream escaped her lips. Lando wanted to be in the water first and ran in my direction. I still stood on my tiptoes, considering the water always felt extra cold against my stomach. "You said it wasn't cold!" He squeaked out. "Oh dear."
"Yes?" I chuckled, cupping some water in my hands as I rubbed it over my stomach to get used to it. "Regretting something?"
"So many things," he mumbled, staring into my eyes. It made me slightly uncomfortable for some reason, and I squat down. I squeezed my nose and eyes before taking a quick 'refreshing' dive in the water. I rubbed my eyes when I raised my head above the waves again, my best friends gasped and so did Sarah, who stroked her curly red hair behind her ears. "I'm already regretting doing this." He sighed, poking my ribs.
I held onto his wrist, I'd pull him right into the water if he started with tickling. He managed to escape my grip and tickled the sides of my waist. I couldn't help but giggle and tried to push him away, but in response, he threw me over his shoulder. I rolled my eyes and kicked with my legs. I looked over at Sabrina who showed a thumbs up and took a dive. "Wave! Wave! Wave!" I yelled, a wall of seawater formed right behind us. I never saw the waves being this high around here, maybe two and a half metres above sea level now. I tapped on Lando's head and he turned around. He quickly put me down and clenched onto my arms, using me as a human shield.
"I love you!" He said. Covering my eyes and nose with his hands while I received a hug from behind. His head buried in my shoulder and I could tell he felt tense. I took a deep breath and waited for the wave to clash with our bodies. Some ran away, but everyone with common sense knew it was too late. A splash of water crashed against us. We automatically reached the surface and needed to swim to the shore, Sabrina and Sarah were drained as well. We all ran towards Soph, who filmed the entire thing, she found it hilarious to see us suffer.
"I wouldn't be surprised if you go to hell," I mumbled, rubbing a towel in my face before wrapping it around my body. Sabrina and Sarah decided to change into their clothes in one of the toilets, though I highly doubted if the time they spend in the wooden cabins was being used for changing into something different. My bikini dried pretty fast thanks to the wind and I just wore Charles' hoodie over it.
After a cup of coffee at the restaurant, we went home again. Even though I regretted going into the water, I understood why Sabrina wanted to do this. It felt refreshing and, though I hated to admit it, I had some fun. I went for a quick warm shower afterwards and plopped down on the couch so the others could use my private bathroom.
Later I needed to record a video for my Instagram stories, wishing my followers a happy new year. Beth forced me to do so, but she did so much for me that if this made her happy, I happily filmed myself saying some basic sentence. It only took thirty seconds of my time and some people would feel appreciated, so it was all for a good cause.

Cleaning the house after a wild night took a lot of time. All the bedding needed to be washed, as well as our coats that all smelled like smoke. Luckily, Sabrina offered to mop the floor, Sarah washed the windows, stained with gunpowder and grime. Carla went full-on panic mode, so we locked her in mums bedroom. Andrea walked the dog with his daughter so fewer people stood in our ways. The kitchen was the worst, shattered glass, puddles off wine, receipts scattered across the floor, it never looked this disgusting.
To start our new year with cleaning, was far of my expectations. Though, when everything could be placed in a home magazine again, I felt immensely proud of my team, even though some didn't work as hard as others. I wiped the sweat off my head and sighed when everyone, except for Sabrina, said goodbye. My best friend and I sat down on the stairs and I rested my head against her shoulder. We barely formed a conversation until Sophia came to interrupt us.
"We won't see the Shrek lookalike ever again," my sister said as she scrolled through her phone. I narrowed my eyes, the last time I saw that guy he passed out in the bushes. "Mum started a fight after he vandalised Mrs Carol from number 51 her car." Sabrina and I gasped at the same time. "Why so surprised?" I shrugged and pouted my bottom lip. "Well, mum her year started off great, she's FaceTiming her therapist now, don't bother her." Sophia took place on the step in front of us. She leaned against my legs and rested her head on my knees. I saw her face upside down, which looked funny to me. "You have a booger hanging in your nose." I rolled my eyes and rubbed my nose. Soph nodded. "You know-"
-"any more complaints?" I asked.
"Yes actually," she said. "Dad wished all of us a happy new year." I clenched my jaw. "And I want you to say the same to him. I don't like him either, but we still need to respect him, Daisy."
"No, you need to respect him. You might not remember him ditching us that well, but I do and he didn't treat us with kindness so I'm not showing him any respect," I stated. "You only use him for presents."
"So? He doesn't have any other added value in my life except for being my human wallet," her voice sounded softer and softer with every word she said. She came to realise she didn't exactly admire him either. "Oh shit, I'm turning into you!" She said.
"And what's wrong with that?" I chuckled, I wasn't sure about how to take her statement, but considering the 'oh shit' I assumed the worst. "I make a million a year for doing what I love most and I don't need to pay for food anymore."
"I meant not formula 1 related Daisy," she sighed. "Letting others believe they're important to you while gaining an advantage of them." I raised my brows. The people in my life seriously had impact on my life in a positive way, I must admit, at age 15, I made sure to get some sponsors due to socialising with David his rich friends, but now I certainly wouldn't take advantage of someone on purpose. "If you hadn't had George wrapped around your finger, he wouldn't have crashed in Sochi huh?"
"That's not true, it was a racing incident, it happens all the time!" I denied. "And George doesn't like me the way you think, we're friends and we just got closer the past few months, because I've cut all the toxic people off and have more time to spend with my friends." Soph shook her head and sat up, she pressed her fingers against her temples and squinted her eyes before she continued.
"Just a headache, I'm fine," she said, mainly to Sabrina who looked concerned. "The Sochi crash looked stupid, like, George could've easily avoided shorty."
"You're seeing things," I mumbled. "You're just trying to confuse me." I paused for a moment and scratched my head, I needed to watch the replay of the race now. "And even if George likes me, he wouldn't risk the championship for some girl, that'd be immensely stupid."
"He might be stupid, but you, dumbass, are blind," she stated. She walked away, leaving Sabrina and me behind. Her theories made me think, but when it all started to confuse me, I stopped. It just didn't make sense. Sabrina struggled as well expressing her point of view, he did gift me earrings for mums birthday and challenged my boyfriend in basically every game we played.
No. I probably searched things behind it and that would make everything so fucking awkward the next time we saw each other. I blocked the thought out of my head. It just didn't make sense.
A/n: A final chapter before I head back to school again. I'm nervous lmao. Anyways, I'll still be online, just less often.
Lots of love,
Meg❤️
