Ri pov
I was walking down towards where maxi and jess were stationed. Maxi was standing behind the rhino and jess was sitting there looking in water. I went towards maxi "Hey maxi". He was concentrating on watching water that he got scared and screamed and jumped out of the rhino onto the sand "Jeez baby sis you scared me". Maxi said keeping his hand on his heart.
Making me and jess to roll in laughter, jess was laughing so hard that he fell of the rhino still laughing rolling on the sand."I did not mean to scare you but it happened". I said amidst laughing.
"Good one baby girl". Jesse said still laughing. "Jesse go you are on lunch break". I said controlling my laugh. He got up from the sand came towards rhino grabbing his stuff left after giving hugs.
We settled down in the rhino watching the water. "So baby sis how did your fitness test go?". Maxi said whilst watching the water.
"It was good, i finished my pool test in 7:44 and second course in 17:12 ". I said giving him info.
It looked like he was in daze," Eyes on water big brother ". I said laughing. Even he has one question" How". Maxi said. "I will tell after knock off time everyone wants to know the same soo you have to wait till evening". I said and he nodded.
"You must have been absolutely amazing baby sis i am proud of you". Taking me in a big bear hug and a forehead kiss.
"Maxi i think you might have to go out for a paddle". I noticed a men falling off the sand bank and he started to panic. Maxi stripped off and went to get the patient.
"Ri to central maxi has gone in for a paddle". I radioed the tower about the update. "Copy that".
I was sitting in the rhino looking for any struggling swimmer when a member of public came to me, maxi was bringing the patient in.
"Umm there is a bloke who is drunk and is harassing the public ". He said and pointed the bloke who was pushing and touching the member of public.
"Ri to central there is a report of a bloke harassing public i will just go and have a look, he is wearing green shorts and white t-shirt ". I radioed the tower and told maxi about the same.
" Copy that be careful precious ". Came Harries voice.
I made my towards the guy who was currently sitting next to a girl who looked uncomfortable.
"Excuse me there is a report that you are harassing the beach goers, it would be better if you walk off the beach or else i have to bring in coppers ". I said to the bloke.
Before i could understand anything i was been thrown in the air and landed on the sand with a thud i got some bruises due to the fall, i quickly regained my composure and stood up ran behind the bloke who was running.
Within a minute i caught the bloke who was cursing and struggling to get out of my grip. "Ri to central can you get the cops down here i am bringing him up the tower". I said radioing the tower.
"Copy that coppers are on their way, is that the bloke who is cursing". Harries said.
"Yeah he is cursing and struggling to get himself free". I said whilst tightening the hold on his t-shirt.
"Mate you better stop trashing and swearing you are already in trouble don't make it difficult for yourself". I said dragging him towards the tower.
"Leave me i haven't done anything wrong, leave me f*****g b***h". He punched me in my stomach to get himself free. But i did not let go off him.
"Listen you are already in big trouble, you have invited trouble yourself, you have already assaulted young girls and members of public and even an on duty lifeguard, i am sure i have got bruises due to the punch you gave me and even this bruises due to you throwing me in the air, so better drop it or you will be in deeper trouble, choice is your". I said whilst dragging him to the tower.
With this he stopped trashing around and started crying, "You kidding me". I muttered under my breath seeing a change in his demeanour.
I soon reached the tower and made him sit on the stairs he was still crying to gain some sympathy and mumbling that he did not do anything wrong.
"Ri to maxi can you get the girls who were been harassed by this guy for evidence". I said radioing him.
"Copy that bringing them up now". Maxi radioed confirming the same.
Harrison, Harries, Reidy were there on tower duty. "Hey how much time it will take for the cops to come". I said from downstairs.
"They should be here in 5 minutes...Holy shit baby girl how did this happen? ". Reidy said popping his head from above the railings and as soon as he saw the bruises he made his way downstairs to have a look. Listening to him hutz came popping his head from above the railings.
"I was talking to him and suddenly before i could understand anything i was thrown up in the air and landed on the ground with a thud, thankfully it was on sand so i escaped with just these bruises and might have got bruises on the stomach as well i am not sure he punched me to get himself free. ". I said explaining the situation.
"You go up stairs i will keep an eye on him, hutz clean her wounds". Reidy said and i made my way upstairs and took a seat on the chair and grabbed a binos and started watching water.
Meanwhile hutz came with maxi. Maxi took the binos from my hands and hutz started cleaning my wounds and started patching me up. I sat there doing nothing. Looks in their face were serious yo enlighten the mood "I don't know how do i end up bruising myself always? I sometimes feel like i am related to mouse the black cloud" i asked while chuckling making them to chuckle along.
"No no you are not related to him baby sis, when he is on duty it causes mayhem, everything happens at once rescue, missing children, first aid everything " He said laughing.
"Ri can you come here to give a statement". Reidy said and i made my way down with maxi and hutz behind me.
"Hi i want to know your side of story". The copper told me.
"I was stationed at North end, i was sitting in the buggie and my colleague was doing a rescue, soon a member of public came and told me that there is a bloke drunk and harassing the beach goers. I decided to go and have a chat with him, i politely asked him to leave the beach or else i have to get the coppers down, before i could understand anything i was thrown in the air and landed on the ground leaving me in bruises, i regained my composure and caught him but he was cursing and thrashing around to get himself free and he even punched me in stomach to free himself ". I said pulling up my top to show them the bruising that had formed due to his punch, it was dark purple in colour.
The cops noted it and left the tower taking the statements of the other girls and taking away the bloke and charging him for assault.
I made my way back upstairs and grab my things to go on patrol. "Where do you think you are going precious?". Harries asked me.
"To patrol the beach i guess". I said making my way towards the door before i could step out of the door i felt someone pick me up carrying me upstairs. I saw it was Reidy who did it.
"Kiddo you are staying up the tower with me and hutz, harries is going to take your position downstairs we don't want you to get more bruised so you are up the tower with us and you haven't even taken your lunch". Reidy said making me pout.
"Ok fine". I agreed making them smile ear to ear. "Baby girl i am going out to get a coffee for myself do you want anything for lunch". Reidy asked me.
"Bring anything you like but make sure it is veg and has no mushrooms in it i hate mushrooms, and a coffee too". I told Reidy and he went out of the tower leaving me and hutz alone.
"You had your lunch?" i asked hutz. "Yeah long back". Hutz said answering. We both sat there watching the water
"How was your test?" Hutz asked me. "It was good, more details at knock off time". I said making him frown in confusion.
"Why?". He asked. "Everyone wants to know that is why knock off time you see so that i don't have to repeat the details again and again". I said making him laugh. I wanted to laugh to but now the bruising has started paining.
We sat there watching water, after sometimes there was a knock on the door, i stood up to answer. "A young boy has fallen in the skate park and is unconscious". Said a boy in his teens. I quickly grabbed my radio things and oxygen bag and left the tower informing hutz about the situation.
I ran along the promenade to get to the skate park. I reached there and saw a boy lying motionless in the skate bowl. I made my way inside the bowl. Put on a pair of gloves and assessed the boy. He had a huge gash on his forehead. I cleaned the wound and decided to treat it as a spinal.
"Ri to central the patient is around 11 years of age has a huge gash on his forehead i cleaned the wound i want someone to run down a spinal board i am going to treat it as a spinal and the patient is currently unconscious, call an ambo too". I said filling in the details.
"Copy that Jake and Reidy are on their way bringing in the spinal board, ambo will be there in 10 minutes ". came hutz voice.
"Buddy can you hear me, open your eyes i am a lifeguard". I said patting his cheeks and holding his head up. He opened his eyes and looked around his surroundings.
"Hey buddy i am a lifeguard, do you know where are you now?". I asked keeping his head still. He looked confused for a while after answering.
"I am at bondi beach, skate park". He answered." Do you know what day is it today? And what happened to you? " i asked till then reidy and jake came with spinal board.
"It is tuesday". He said and we looked at each other. "I just remember that i fell off from my skate board and hit my head and everything went black". He said and we set him on the spinal board and we move him out of the skate bowl as it was too hot inside, i put my cap on his face to avoid sun rays falling on his face.
"Is there anyone whom we can call and tell about this incident?" i asked him engaging him in a conversation.
"My mom". He said and gave number of his mom, i called her and informed her about the incident and told her that his son is going to the hospital.
"Your mom will meet you in the hospital, do you feel any pain?". I asked him. "Yeah my back is starting to pain a lot". He said.
"How do you rate your pain out of 10, 10 being the worst pain". I asked him. "Its 9". The boy said. "Jake can you prepare the green whistle". I told him. And he prepared the green whistle and gave me.
"All you need to do is suck on this take deep breaths and your pain will go away ok". I told him and he did as i told him to do. Within few minutes he was flying high.
"You are so beautiful, do you have a boyfriend?". He asked making me flush and jake and reidy to laugh at my expenses.
We were just waiting for paramedics to come. "I am afraid i have one". I said. "My bad". He said looking at me. Reidy and jake looked at me in suspicion.
Soon the paramedics arrived. "He hit his head first in the bowl has a huge gash on his forehead which is cleaned and patched up and he has concussion, he was complaining of back pain so we took spinal precautions and we have given him a green whistle as pain relief". I briefed them about his condition.
They put him in the ambulance and took him to hospital for further treatment and we started making our way back to the tower. "So you have a boyfriend?". Jake asked me.
"Hell no, i knew where that was going so to escape the situation i told him that i have a boyfriend". I said laughing but a sharp pain in my stomach caused me to stop abruptly and take deep breaths.
"What's wrong why did you stop laughing abruptly?". Jake asked and reidy turned around to have a look at me.
"Its nothing ". I said." Your stomach is paining isn't it ". Reidy said.
" It will go away i am fine". I told reidy. While jake was confused with the happenings.
"Did i miss something?". He asked and reidy told him about the drunk person, how he gave me bruises and a punch in my stomach to get himself free but i did not let him go.
"Jeez, you are a strong baby girl ". Jake exclaimed as we made our way in the tower.
"Who is strong?" came Yatesy voice. We made our way upstairs. Yatesy saw me and frowned in confusion. Before i could introduce myself, reidy introduced me.
"Meet the newest member of the team a full time first female lifeguard ri". Reidy introduced me. Yatesy came and gave me a big bear hug and a smile on his face. "Welcome to the team Ri".
"And answering your questions she is a strong girl, she handled a drunk person alone despite the fact that she was thrown in the air by him leaving her in bruises and not letting him go even after he punched her in stomach ". Jake said sitting next to me and putting his arms around me. Yatesy looked at me in surprise.
"Hutz bring in some ice for ri, it has started paining her". Reidy said handing me a coffee and burger.
"And she wanted to go and patrol the beach with these injuries". Hutz said sarcastically making his way down to get some ice making me pout.
"But you guys did not let me go now i am sitting in the tower with you guys ". I said whilst having my burger.
"Yeah yeah thank you for listening tu us baby girl". He said coming back kissing my forehead and handing me the ice, i pulled my lifeguard tshirt and put the ice on the brushing making me to shiver at the contact of ice on my skin.
"Its soo cold". I told making jake to chuckle besides me who still has his arm wrapped around my shoulders and was watching water.
I finished off my lunch and sat there watching the water. Reidy and Yatesy left the tower to patrol the beach as the crowds were growing thicker. It was 3 in afternoon and there were around 25,000 people on the beach. Back to back rescues were taking place.
We had our hands full with rescues going around the beach. Flat rock victims, cheese grater had claimed many victims, myself and jake were treating them leaving hutz to watch the water.
After half an hour we were done and went back to hutz."Teens can't stay away from the cheese grater and ends up with deep gashes". Jake said sighing.
"Yeah they love to keep us busy". I said laughing, making them chuckle.
Like this way the day came to an end with first-aid, directing the one on the beaches to do rescue. It was knockoff time and the boys were packing the equipment and giving the last warning to the one in the water that we are closing for the day.
I was sitting in the tower doing paper work. When the phone rang in the tower i was the nearest so i picked up the phone.
"Bondi lifeguards Shruti speaking". I told. "I am Jessica, noah's mother, the one you rescued from the skate bowl". She told me. "Ohh, how is noah doing, is he alright?" i asked her.
"Yeah that is the reason i called you, you guys are the reason my boy is doing great, hadn't you guys would have taken spinal precautions my son would have been struck to the wheel chair for entire life, but because of you guys my son can live a normal life, he has broken a vertebrae in the spinal cord which will take 6 weeks to heal and he has to wear a neck brace to prevent further damage". She said.
"Thank god good to hear that he is doing good". I told her. "We will come and meet you guys and thank you guys in person once he gets a bit better, he wants to see you guys". She said making me smile.
"No worries see you soon, bye". I told and put the phone back.
"Who was there on phone?" Deano asked me. "Where is Reidy and jake?" i asked him. "They are downstairs". Deano said. "Can you please call them up then i will tell who was on phone". I told him."Sure thing". He said and made his way downstairs to fetch jake and reidy within few minutes he came back with them.
"Guys remember the boy we rescued from the skate park early today". I told them and they nodded. "How can we forget him". Jake and reidy said chuckling. "What's so funny?" came hutz and maxi's voice.
"The boy we rescued from the skate park was soo high on green whistle that he asked ri does she have a boyfriend and ri said yes". Jake said chuckling. Maxi and hutz eyes widened in shock.
"Before you guys assume anything let me make this clear i told that i have a boyfriend just to escape the situation, i don't have a boyfriend ". I said making them to relax.
" Soo the thing is his mother just called up and told that due to us taking the spinal precautions he was saved from getting stuck in the wheel chair for entire life, he had indeed fractured one of the vertebrae in his spinal cord". I told them making them to smile and pounce on me taking me in a hug.
"Guys take it easy, she has bruises too". Maxi said making them to pull apart.
Maxi came and sat besides me, i immediately rested my head on his shoulders making him to wrap his arm around my shoulders so that i was comfortable. We just sat there waiting for all the guys and hop to come.
