"Kate what's wrong, what happened to you, are you okay.....?" Brenda asked frightfully as she rushed to meet the limping Kate. "You're look all swollen and battered, did you fall, no this doesn't look like a fall, were you attacked?" She rushed on. After some minutes of silence and no answer seemed forthcoming, Brenda started to panic "Kate I need you to talk, were you attacked?"
"No, I wasn't attacked, I . . . uhm . . . I actually bumped into . . . not bumping though, I fell down" Kate said but with fear. "You bumped, you fell and you were not attacked, which one should I believe?" Brenda asked with strange amusement. "This is not funny Brenda, I am dead serious here" Kate said slightly angered. "And who said I find it funny?" Brenda asked. "The situation is not funny but I find your attempt at lying amusing" she said. "But I am saying the truth", Kate cried pitifully. "Look at you, you're all bruised and you call this a fall, injuries like this are not sustained in a fall" Brenda said. "Well I'll go get you some drugs to use and to bathe your wounds". She said as she moved towards the door. Pausing midway "don't you dare move a muscle in my absence, because you are always wanting something, everything waits until I come back, do you understand me?" Brenda asked conclusively, "yes I do" Kate said. "As if I can do more than lift my hands" she mumbled as she laid down on the bed.
"Back so soon?" Kate asked at the sound of the door. "Yes, I am back sleepyhead" Amara replied from her back. "Hmmmmm, I see" Kate said as she turns in obvious discomfort.
"Kate are you okay, what is wrong with you? you sound strange" Amara asked taking notes of her strange coldness and detached manner of speech. "I am fine, I just had a fall", she said as she turns to look at her and the expression on Amara's face clearly told her that she had made a grave mistake of turning to her. "Kate" she cried, who did this to you? this is not a fall" she cried rushing over to her side and checking her whole body like a dotting mother. "It's nothing really, I'll be as good as new in no time" she said trying to sound convincing.
Like a snap, Amara grasped the unknown truth. "Kate, I need you to tell me the truth at this juncture, did you go back to Damien, are you guys together?" She asked hoping it's not true. "Yes, we are together" she replied smiling obviously smitten with love.
"Are you such a fool that you don't recognize danger even when you are told?" Amara asked "how could you have gone back, he is dangerous and I know him more than you do" Amara cried. "Stop shouting at me", Kate cried with agonizing pain "I love him and that is not going to change. You say he is a bad person, tell me have you ever seen a good person?" Kate continued with rising anger. "We are all bad in our own little way and at the same time we are good in our own little world. You say he is bad but he is good to me, he is very kind, loving and caring and I love him". She concluded turning her back to him. "Kate, I understand you but view this from my side"Amara said as she sits tentatively beside her. "It's bad enough when you're in love but it's worse when you love the wrong person even if it is for the right reasons" Amara said. "You know what I think?" Kate asked "what is it?" Amara replied, "I think you should keep your opinions to yourself and shut your damned mouth" Kate said leaving Amara dumbstruck. "Are you surprised?" She asked, "Don't be, just know this that I don't love him" she said getting Amara all the more confused. "Yeah, I don't love him but I am in love with him" she said smiling. "What difference does it make, there really is no difference between the gibberish you just said" Amara said looking further confused. "There is a whole lot of difference between the two, if I love him, I choose to do so but if I am in love with him, it just happens, it leaves you without a choice but it leaves you with this but giddy feeling and a sense of completion. You might not really understand qhat u am saying because I don't think you know what it means to love" she said with a conclusive gesture. "Kate! It's enough" Amara screamed with blind anger as she stands, her confused state giving way to red hot anger. "You don't have to insult me" she said "and yes, I know what it means to love and be loved. She said angrily. "One more thing of which you don't know", she said her expression changing from anger to pitying contempt "I know what it means to be abused" she said as Brenda bursts into the room.
"Who is abusing who and what is the cause of this whole fiasco? Mhen I could hear you from miles away" she said exaggerating only a bit. "It's nothing to worry about Brenda, this girl is just behaving stupid and lovestruck not even thinking about her own safety" Amara replied. "Before all this argument, let me clean up her wound or we can talk while I get to work but first help me with a basin" Brenda said as she moves to the bed and stripped Kate of her clothes but covered her with a blanket knowing fully well how sick she is when it comes to propriety and being modest.
Amara appears with the basin and Brenda sets to work on bathing and cleaning up her wounds.
"I don't understand why you won't see reason with me Kate, this is not going to help matters" Amara said. "Neither will arguing help matters" Kate replied haughtily.
"Hush now" Brenda said still cleaning up the wound. "Amara can you tell me what exactly is going on?" She asked conversationally and that made Amara ease up enough to talk without anger.
"Brenda, like I said it's nothing much but it can be disastrous" Amara said. "Stop talking in riddles please, speak in the language of which I can understand" Brenda said.
"Brenda, Amara is against me having a boyfriend and I don't understand why, maybe you should ask her" Kate said face down. "Against you having a boyfriend?" Brenda asked looking at Amara. "But why, she is old enough and you do have one don't you?" She asked.
"I am not against her having a boyfriend, I am against the person she chose as her boyfriend" Amara said with disdain. "You don't have to Ama, cus he is my boyfriend not yours. And I don't know why you're against him when there is no difference between...." She trailed off. "What did you just say?" Amara asked, "now I understand" she said as she rises to leave.
"But where are you going?" Kate asked with fear. "Oh, you mean me, uhm, I am heading to the library ma'am" Amara replied with mocking politeness. She then leaves the room with enough anger to make the door sound so loud.
"Brenda, are you still here?" Kate asked "yeah, I am just wondering why you guys are on each other's neck this days. This has been going on for a while and it bothers me. You both are my friend and I am not happy seeing the two of you against each other" she replied. "But what is this about them being the same, you've lost me here and I need some explanation or his he also a scholar?" She asked naively "actually she knows my boyfriend and they are friends" Kate replied hoping to give the main question a pass. Brenda turned Kate around and peered into her eyes "are you hiding something from me, is there something I should know, something you're not telling me?" She asked gazing directly into her eyes "Okay here's the truth" Kate replied not able to take it in anymore, "my boyfriend's name is Damien and he also answers the name Daniel, we had a disagreement about his name.........."
FLASHBACK
Curled up like a ball on the bed, Kate cries her heart out believing her love life to be destroyed. "Why did he lie to me, I loved him" she cried out
"I did not lie to you" she heard from her back. "Turning like a flash of fire, she stood up. "What are you doing here, I don't want to hear your lies anymore just go and leave me in peace" she cried. "Why don't you give him a chance", Joyce said, she had been listening to her cries, been tired of them and wants to help even at the detriment of her life. "He has nothing to say and . . . " Kate said "I have a lot to say" Damien interrupted. "Just calm down and hear me out"
"Okay, go ahead" she said "my name is Damien and I also bear Daniel. Not everyone knows me as Daniel but those that are close to me and those special to me, I told you my name's Daniel cus I really love you and you're special to me" Damien said with a pleading look. Kate is seen evidently battling with herself. "why should I believe you, what is the assurance that you are saying the truth?" She asked getting weak already. "You have my love and my word as proof that I am saying the truth" he said "and you have my support that he is telling the truth" Joyce said as she hugs her from behind. "I love you Kate, I can't live without you" Damien said "I love you too" Kate cried as she flew into his open arms. Damien hugs her tightly giving Joyce a wink and a thumbs up.
PRESENT DAY
". . . And that's what happened" Kate said conclusively. "Hmmmmm, I see but why is she then against him? Brenda asked rhetorically.
"Well you have to be careful and I won't say more than that. We are having a program this evening would you like to come with me?" Brenda asked closing the subject broached upon. "I don't think I have the strength for that", ""maybe next time"" they said together. "It's your anthem so no offense and there is always a next time" Brenda said as she stands up to leave the room.
We are at a more Crucial stage, trust that's what going on in your head. 🙄 How come Joyce helped Damien win back his love, is she really free or is she being blackmailed? 🤷🤷
Kate is hiding something and not saying the complete truth, Amara is behaving weird, Joyce is out of the picture and Brenda is suffering from a realistic nightmare. A crucial point indeed. Please do well to vote and drop your comments. Ya loved guys🤲❤️❤️💋💋.
