chapter xviii; ❝mistakes and body bags❞

DOGS barked in the distance as the three heroes arrived at the old washing district.
"And that's why, he always punches the hare in same place," Ray explained, his story boring Emily.
"Uh-huh," Henry listened.
"Eventually, it will fall off," Ray finished.
Henry just stood there, "What?"
Ray ignored him, "So... What now?"
"We fight," Emily laughed, putting her hand on her hip, "Duh."
"Yeah, duh," Henry copied, swinging his hip mockingly to the left.
"Why must you mock me?" Emily deadpanned.
"Cuz," Henry swing his hip to the side again, "It's fun."
Emily whacked his shoulder, "Quit it."
He swung his hip to the other side, "I don't wanna."
Emily flicked his forehead really hard and he rubbed his head.
"Ow."
"Are we gonna fight some crime or what?" Ray interrupted their argument.
"Obvi!" Henry twirled his imaginary long hair with his finger and batted his eyelashes.
"I don't do that."
"You totes do!"
"I'm going to kill you," Emily joked.
They got ready to break down the door when Henry's phone rang, "Ah. Hold on, it's Piper." He answers the phone and put it to his ear, "What's up little sis?"
"Hey, do you have any towels at work?"
"Uh..." Henry leaned over Emily's shoulder and looked into the laundromat, "Yeah, I can get you some towels."
"Ok—"
"I can get you a lot of towels," Henry said mysteriously.
"Great! When are you gonna be home?"
"I'll be home in about twenty minutes."
Ray pinched together his thumb and index finger as to say, less time.
"Fifteen minutes."
Emily did it this time.
"Ten."
Ray gave him a thumbs up.
"Okay, bye!"
"Okay, lets do this!" Henry walked into the store, Emily right behind him.
"There's nobody here," Ray stated.
"I can see that," Emily retorted.
"RAH!" A large man popped out from behind the huge pile of towels.
"Oh," Henry backed up a bit.
"That is a big dude," Ray cowered.
"So?" Emily shrugged, "We've taken down way bigger criminals."
"Yeah—"
"But—"
She cut Henry and Ray off by walking towards the big man.
"Nononono—"
"That's a bad idea—"
"Nah," Emily assures, "I got this."
The man yelled as he punched Emily through the window and onto the concrete outside.
Henry looked at the window and the broken glass that was now everywhere, "Dude you can't just throw people through windo—"
The man picked him up and threw him out with ease.
"AH!"
Ray chuckled, "Okay. You can manhandle a few kids. Let's see how you do against a real man."
"You okay?" Emily asked Henry, who had landed directly on top of Emily.
"Yeah, I'm fine. You?" Henry asked, looking deep into her brown eyes.
"Could be better," She groaned as she lifted her head off the ground.
Without thinking, Henry leaned down and connected their lips. It was something he'd been waiting to do for years. Emily was taken by surprise, and pushed him away.
"Henry, I—"
He quickly stood up, "I'm sorry," He chuckled nervously, "T-That was stupid, I-I shouldn't have done that."
"No, it's just—" Emily was cut off by screaming.
"AAHHH!" Ray flew out the window and landed next to Henry and Emily, "Ack." He coughed as he hit the ground. "That guy is stronger than I thought."
Henry shot Emily a sympathetic look before facing to Ray, "Here's the plan—" Henry turned around, "Oh, he's right here, now."
The guy was now outside and standing right in front of both of them, holding a spray can.
"Hey, man," Emily cleared her throat.
Ray squinted at him, "What's up?"
The man sprayed Ray, Henry, and Emily in the face with the mist in the can.
"W-What is that?"
"Why—"
"Don't do that..."
The three heroes collapsed on the ground, their bodies suddenly becoming numb. They couldn't move any part of their body except for their heads.
"What did you spray on us?" Emily questioned.
"Flabbergas," the guy laughed.
"What is your deal man?" Henry asked, now annoyed that they couldn't move.
"My name is Barge!"
Henry rolled his eyes.
"I'm gonna throw you into the sewer," He told Captain Man, "And you cant do anything about it!"
"Wait," Ray tried to stop him as Barge reached down and slid him on the ground into the sewer hole, "Nononono— AAHHH!"
"Why are you doing this?" Henry asked.
Emily knitted her eyebrows together, "Yeah, why are you stealing towels?"
"Should we tell him?" Barge questioned himself. "No! We can't! But I can. No don't tell him! What—"
"I'm sorry?"
"Who are you talking to?"
Barge pulled out a white towel from behind him that had a face and a crown drawn on it with what looks like an Expo marker. "I obey the towel king."
It was at this moment, Emily realized that he was actually crazy. Barge walked to Emily and grabbed her arm in the same way she grabbed Ray's before throwing him into the sewer.
"I see that you're gonna throw me in the sewer, too, or maybe you could just—" Emily was cut off by Barge picking her up by her arm and leg and throwing her into the sewer hole.
She screamed as she landed in gross sewage water, unable to move any part of her body.
"No, you seriously don't have too— AAHHH!"
Emily sighed as Henry landed in the water next to her. Ray wasn't anywhere in sight. Great, Emily thought sarcastically. After a few moments of silence, Henry couldn't take it.
"Em?" He whispered into the silent sewer.
"Hm?"
He sighed, "I'm really sorry."
"Henry, you don't need to apologize."
Henry sighed again, turning his head to look at her, "I—"
"Ray, I'm here!"
"Hello?!" Emily questioned, turning her head in the direction of the familiar voice.
"Its me, Schwoz, from work."
"How did you get here?" Henry asked.
"Ray called me and said you guys needed my help and that you got Flabbergassed.
"You brought the bear proof suit?" Emily asked.
"Ya."
Emily sighed, "Okay, but how are we going to get out of here without the ability to move our bodies?"
Schwoz pulled out two body bags, similar to the ones doctors would put you in after you die.
"Take a deep breath!" Schwoz told Henry, grabbing his legs and stuffing them into the bag. Henry would've fought back, but Barge made it quite easy for Schwoz to kidnap Henry.
"Schwoz! Let me out!" Henry punched the inside of the bag, "It's hard to breathe in here!"
"I told you to take a deep breath, if you did not that would be your fault." Schwoz dropped Henry's bag on the ground.
"OW."
He pulled out the other body bag and gave Emily a mischievous smirk, "Your turn."
"No!"
Schwoz stuffed her in the bag before she could protest anymore.
"Schwoz!"
They both stopped kicking in the bags when they heard laughing.
"Ray?!" Emily asked.
"You guys are in bags," Ray said laughing as he was laying down in a different part of the sewer.
Schwoz dropped Emily's bag, "DUDE."
"Really?" Henry asked Ray sarcastically, "We had no idea we were in bags."
"Don't worry," Schwoz held a finger up and reached his other hand into his back pocket, "I got one for you, too!"
"HA!"
