12. Popular Girl 101
There are ups and downs to having a protective brother to raise you. Through the years I have even made a list in my journal and Dani helped me make this list up, she even made her own which is a whole lot different from mine.
Katie & Dani's 12th-grade Pros and Cons for having Roman as a brother.
Katie's List:
Pros: 1) He lets you stay up past seven on Mondays and Fridays to watch wrestling.
2) He lets you have lots of sugar.
3) Curfew is at one in the morning.
4) I get to see Levi without a shirt.
5) Gets to hang with Viv a lot.
6) He will fight for you.
7) He cares. (Possibly too much.)
8) He watches any movie you want.
9) Dessert for Breakfast.
10) Hangin with his buddies.
Con's: 1) Doesn't let you date, much.
2) Makes you go to the dentist because of all the candy he bought you.
3) No Dating Friends.
4) Julien has to live with us.
5) Roman doesn't listen.
6) Fights too much.
7) Throws boxes of tampons at me in Walmart to embarrass me (works every time.)
8) I have to watch The Cowboy Way every Wednesday night with him because it is his favorite Woody Harrelson movie.
9) Embarrasses you worse in front of his friends.
10) His friend No-Date-Contract.
11) Heath.
Dani's list:
Pros: 1)Hot Guys,
2) Hot Guys.
3) Hot Guys with NO shirts.
4) Julien
5) Watching Roman lift weights.
6) Staring at shirtless guys.
7) Viv and her video games.
Con's: 1) Heath.
2) Heath with No Shirt on.
3) Julien with Shirt on.
4) Julien ignoring me.
5) Heath flirting with me.
6) Roman has way too many girlfriends.
7)Heath.
I looked down at my history notebook and looked towards Dani who sat beside me "Do we get this bored during history? All we did this year was write Heath as a con of hanging around Roman" I whispered to her and showed her the page.
She took it from me with a frown "Hm. I forgot to write number eight. Levi is not dating my bestie," she said and grabbed a pen before writing it in my notebook. I rolled my eyes at her as the bell rang, signaling lunchtime.
We stood up after she wrote down her newest Con on the list and I put the notebook in my binder before we moved on to the lockers. I threw my binder into the locker as Dani went to her locker down the hallway and got out her lunch bag.
Dani hated school food, meanwhile, I was always running late to school and always forget to fix anything before I came so Roman always had money laid out on the kitchen table for me before he went to work.
We slowly walked towards the cafeteria to ignore any idiotic insults we might get, especially now considering the taco truck situation.
Dani frowned down at her lunch bag "I am so glad my mom laid out lunch for me this morning" she said sarcastically as she reached inside the bag and brought out ...asparagus in a baggie.
I scrunched up my nose "Um, what happened to the small salad and turkey sandwiches?" I asked in confusion as we headed towards the food line.
She sighed "My mom wants me to try out her ...veggie diet, I don't know how long I can survive without having a cheeseburger" she complained and looked at me in sadness which made me laugh.
Before she could say anything else I grabbed two trays from the table and smiled at her "Drop the veggies and join us on a mission to discover the mystery meat of the day" I joked as I handed her the tray.
She dropped the paper lunch bag to the ground and stepped up beside me, not caring who stepped on it or found it which made me chuckle as she took the lunch tray.
"Dude, I am so paying you back," she said as we went down the line to get the mystery meat, small salad, grapes, dessert, and a coke. I smirked at her as we turned around and headed towards the tables in the back.
"You don't have to, Dani. You just know that you being my friend is enough payment."
She frowned "Yeah, but my family-" she was interrupted by our names being called. We turned towards the 'Hot Pack' table and we both raised an eyebrow.
Cleo, Chloe, and Kessie were waving us over with big smiles. This made Dani huff and mumble "Wonder what the lame brains want now?" I smiled at her as we made our way over to their table and put on a fake smile.
"Dani, Katie, why don't you join us for lunch?" Kessie said, smiling happily as she dug into her side salad.
Dani and I shared a look as they stared at us, then Dani turned around and gave them a glare, "Look, if this is another stupid attempt to get me into your little group, I will personally take that fork from that salad and shove it straight up your-" Cleo laughed, interrupting Dani.
Chloe shook her head: "No. It isn't, promise. We just wanted you, girls, to sit with us and talk," she said, flinging her hair over her shoulder. You know the dramatic way.
We shared a look and I shrugged before sitting opposite the three girls as Dani slammed her tray down next to mine while glaring at the 'Hot Pack.' Part of me knew she was going to end up snapping at them.
They might get their feelings hurt. Such a shame.
While Dani kept expecting a bucket of pig blood to drop down on us like in Carrie, I stared at the three girls who sat across from us with confusion "What do you want to talk about?" I questioned them.
Kessie smiled, "Girl stuff. You know, since you are dating our friend Adam, we figure we should get to know you better," she told me with a sweet smile as she looked at her nails, pink nail polish, and professionally done.
Adam? So, that is what this is about, huh? I thought as I stared at them with a raised eyebrow and a smirk "So, everyone knows about that, huh?" I asked as Cleo and Chloe nodded with excitement.
"Just us. You know Adam is with the male version of the hot pack. Yeah, we have to approve of the ones our 'brothers' date," Kessie said with that same sweet smile that I figure was fake.
I smirked with a dry laugh: "Oh, I get it. You don't approve," I said as I looked at them and Dani rolled her eyes before mumbling something about what the 'hot pack' can do with their salads.
"No. You see, we are trying to save you, hun. Adam is a wannabe playboy. He only dates girls that he can screw and dump right after. If you don't believe me ask anything in this school with legs and big boobs."
I just stared at her for a moment, part of me believed her, but another part of me knew that these girls did not approve of me dating their friend so they would say anything to push me away from him. I didn't know what to believe when it came to these girls.
Dani stood up from her seat "Look, just because Kate isn't rich doesn't mean you can be a bitch towards her. I have never heard anyone say anything bad about Adam other than he has smashed mailboxes and done idiotic shit like that," she said as she glared at the three girls and nodded her head towards me, "Come on Kate, let's go."
I stood up and went to grab my tray, then I stopped suddenly as a thought came over me.
"No. I have something I wanna say."
I looked around before looking right at Kessie "Just because someone isn't who you want them to be, doesn't mean you have to treat people like they are dirt on the bottom of your shoe" I picked up my small plate of meat that was on the tray and gave a smirk. Kessie looked up at me with a raised eyebrow.
"Anybody like you is dirt on the bottom of my shoe. You are just in my way, Meat Freak."
I could feel the stares of my fellow students as they watched me and Kessie, a smile tugged at the corner of my mouth as I looked at her.
"You know what, Kessie? This conversation only gives me an even more reason to date Adam" I looked at the plate in my hands before walking towards her "So I can piss you off" I said and dumped my mystery meat plate over Kessie's head making her scream bloody murder.
People in the cafeteria yelled and applauded as I smiled watching the juice from the plate run down her hair and into her shirt as she screamed and grabbed a napkin to start cleaning it off. I walked over to the other side of the table and picked up my tray before following Dani out of the cafeteria. She was smiling proudly.
"You know she will tell the principal right?"
I shrugged, "It was worth it." Who is the Meat Freak now?
