Christian adjusts his collar and runs his hands down his already wrinkle-free shirt while looking at himself in the mirror. He rubs the clean-shaven face and runs his hands through his hair that is getting long after weeks of play in Arizona. He checks his phone; Baker should be here soon. As if on que someone knocks on the door of his suite.
"Yeah hold on!" Christian yells and jogs over to the door to let Baker in.
Baker steps in giving Christian a bro hug before taking a look at him the judgement clear on his face, "Bro, what the fuck are you wearing?"
Christian throws his hands up in surrender, "What do you mean? We're going to Rooftop isn't like a high-end club?"
Baker shakes his head, "Did you not get my text? This year it's a pool party at the Waldorf. Kat just got there."
Christian's ears perk up at the sound of Kat's name like a dog, "What else did she say? Did she say whose doing music?"
Baker gives Christian a knowing look as he pulls his phone out, "She said and I quote 'pool party at the Waldorf, wear clothes you want wet, Winkey face. I just got here with Tara and Holland and the Chainsmokers are DJing, but someone said Drake is here."
Christian changes into board shorts and a Hawaiian shirt to match Baker but keeps his Converse on. He turns in a circle to show off his fit, "Better?"
"Yes, now let's go." Baker nods in approval and the pair head out. A blacked-out Escalade idles by the front of the hotel and they slide into the back.
Baker pulls out his phone to text Kat that they're on the way and then starts up a conversation with the driver. Christian stays silent and scrolls through Instagram, something he hardly ever does. On a random act of curiosity, he searches, 'Kat Bledsoe'. He doesn't even get past typing 'K' and her profile pops up with 250 mutual followers. He notices that her profile name is 'KCa$h' and he laughs to himself at how fitting that is and then continues to scroll through her blue-checked profile. Pictures of her Sports Illustrated shoot are at the top and then there are a few photos of her playing beach volleyball, pictures of her and Baker working out, ads for her promotions for Nike and Off-White, and hidden somewhere in there is one photo of her with Klay Thompson.
Christian clicks on the photo and in a bigger view he can see Kat at a Golden State Warriors game where she is sitting courtside in a traditional jersey. She is smiling her blinding smile and is all glammed up in a way he's never seen with her expensive sneakers and false eyelashes on. Her black her is straight and laid neatly as she extends her arm to shake hands with Klay Thompson who is also smiling. The caption reads, 'You got twenty-four seconds and it's starting right now'. Christian rolls his eyes but hits the follow button anyway.
The car comes to a slow stop and they slide out. Baker follows the directions on his phone to the Waldorf pool. The hotel is completely empty, but music can be heard from the front entrance.
Christian is pressed about something that was brought to his attention earlier and decides to address it before he's faced with Kat, "Bro, are you fucking Kat?" He asks Baker who stops suddenly.
"No. Definitely not. We've been friends for two years and that has never crossed either of out minds." Baker defends.
"Okay I just wanted to check because I say you guys dancing at the games." Christian shrugs trying not to meet Baker's eyes.
Baker laughs, "I guess I'll warn you now. Kat is friendly and flirty and loves to dance. If she asks dance with her because it is the most fun, you will ever have. Just do it and move past whatever it makes you feel. Watch out for her friends they're trying to get you in trouble and always keep in mind Kat is not fazed by anything and ALWAYS has someone more important than you hitting her line." Baker instructs with such tone and stress that Christian actually listens.
Christian nods taking in the info as they walk up to the pool entrance. Baker and Christian greet the bouncer with a nod and get looked up and down. Just past the gate is a light pool and stage where about two hundred people are dancing and swimming around. Cups of beer, liquor, and champagne are in everyone's hands and lights flash. The music is loud as expected.
"Names?" The bouncer asks.
"Baker Mayfield and Christian Yelich." Baker says with a grin as he rubs his hands together and looks over the bouncer at the party.
The bouncer points a finger at Christian's chest, "He's good you're not Mayfield."
Christian howls with laughter as Baker throws his hands up in frustration, "What the fuck? I'm best friends with Kat Bledsoe."
The bouncer shakes his head, "Doubt it. Go ahead MVP Yelich."
"Why him?" Baker questions as he is pushed to the side.
The bouncer shrugs, "He didn't go to OU."
Baker's jaw drops, "Kat went to OU."
Another shrug from the bouncer, "She doesn't go there now."
Baker puffs up his chest prepared to fight his way in, but Christian settles him down and takes him to the side talk, "I'll go in and get Kat she can fix this." Christian offers and Baker nods but crosses his arms over his chest in a pout as Christian slips inside to find Kat.
It isn't hard to track her down, but once he does it is very hard to not stare. She stands on a raises stage in a white bikini that makes her tan skin glow and black hair shine. Her two friends from earlier stand on either side in matching black suits. 'The Life' by Nipsey Hussel plays over the speakers. The beat to this song throws Christian back to the '90s as Snoop Dogg raps. Kat and her friends clearly know the song well because they dance the same in sync as if they have done the routine a million times. They swing around in a circle in a very old school style like they were in an early '2000s rap video.
Christian zones back in on Kat who has a champagne glass in one hand and what he swears is a blunt in the other. She looks extremely relaxed and natural dancing up there and he literally can take his eyes off her amazing body and pretty face. Her chains have switched from iced out platinum to three rolled gold chains with crosses on the bottom one. He struts up to her with false confidence.
"Bledsoe." Christian barks while Kat is sipping her champagne.
Kat looks around confused and then finally sees Christian below her and her eyes light up a little, "Yelich." She greets and jumps down to give him a hug and confirm she is indeed holding a fat smoking blunt in her hand as the recognizable scent of weed wafers in Christian's face.
"Is that a blunt?" Christian asks surprised.
She nods, "Yeah want to hit?"
A million questions come to mind. Why is she smoking? How is she smoking? Does she not care if she gets caught? But he doesn't ask any just takes the blunt from her hand and takes a puff. He is down with spring training anyway.
"How-" Christian begins but then chokes on the smoke hitting the back of his throat.
"You know all us athletes hitting the blunt on the low for pain or sleep or whatever. We just don't be speaking on that." Kat explains, "These are my friends Tara and Holland." She introduces him the two very pretty blonde girls.
"Tara, I used to go to high school with Kat not I'm transferring to UW to play too." Tara intros and smiles a sweet grin at Christian and flashes her icy blue eyes. She is tan and toned like an athlete and has an endearing vibe that draws Christian in a little. Tara is the exact girl he would go for normally.
"Christian." He smiles back and shakes her hand before turning to Holland who does not have a smile on her face and looks rather pissed off.
Holland doesn't offer he hand, "I'm Holland we've met four times at The Bottled Blonde in Milwaukee."
Christian doesn't recognize this girl at all and why would he she's just another blonde who looks like she makes her money off Instagram sponsorships, but tries to be nice, "I'm usually pretty drunk when I'm there I'm sorry. Do you go to UW too?"
Holland nods, "Yeah I have for three years."
Christian nods, "Dope." He turns back to Kat who is texting, "Baker can't get in."
Kat laughs, "I freaking knew this would happen. Come on let's get him." She says and struts towards the entrance with a walk meant to be on the runway. Christian stares at her backside and looks up to the sky to thank whoever is up there for this amazing view.
A they walk Christian sees Klay Thompson's name light up on Kat's phone and also sees her rolls her eyes as she views the notification. She ignores is and lets it right. Again, he calls and Kat lets out an annoyed sigh.
"Aren't you going to answer?" Christian asks.
Kat shakes her head and turns her phone off, "Oops." She says with a smirk.
Christian is surprised. He thought for sure she was all about Klay. But maybe not?
They finally get Baker in with a lot of persuasion and a few promises of tickets. The three order drinks: A Hennessey for Kat and beer for Baker and Christian. Kat also gets two bottles of champagne for their table. They meet up with Holland and Tara who instantly get Kat gassed as the remind her how beautiful she. For about two hours they all drink and share stories while Kat rolls blunt after blunt for her friends. Occasionally someone would come up to the table to approach Kat, but she shut it down quick and they moved on.
"I got so drunk in Arkansas I ran away from the cops and got tackled." Baker shrugs and finishes a beer.
"I got so drunk I woke up in an airport in Berlin trying to get back to America." Holland admits and finishes her drink as well.
"I got so drunk I woke up face down in front of my house with no clothes on and no clue how I got there." Tara laughs and also finishes her drink
Christian pulls his sleeve up, "I got so drunk I got a tattoo and then saw it the next and thought that this might have been the worst idea ever." He shows them his bicep tattoo and the table laughs while he finishes his beer in one long drink.
"I got so drunk while playing overseas in Greece I woke up with nipple piercings." Kat shrugs and pounds a shot while everyone gasps.
"That's what happened!?" Tara demands.
Kat nods, "Oh yeah it was a real fun rest of the trip."
Christian blatantly stares at her chest where the nipple piercings are obviously poking through, "You might win." Christian states finally breaking his stare.
Christian is drunk. No questions asked as soon as Kat ordered tequila shots it was all downhill from there. The bottles of champagne sit in the center of the table and Christian reaches for one. Kat follows suit shaking the bottle as quick as she can to get the top off. Christian's pops first and the bubbly sprays everywhere earning screams from Holland and Tara who run away and a few curse words from Baker who disappears. Kat sprays Christian in return and soon the two are soaked in champagne. Christian can't help but watch how the champagne glistens and runs down her body.
Kat smiles when she finally stops laughing and then licks her lips. Her eyes close as she listens to the music gets a little louder when 'Broke Leg' by Tory Lanez comes on. She swivels her hips a little before looking at Christian, "Come on let's dance." Kat requests.
Christian's immediate thought is to say no, but Baker's advice comes to mind and he decides that it won't be that bad. They're just friends anyway.
"Alright" Christian agrees and allows Kat to take his hand and lead him to the dance floor.
Kat starts shaking her booty in a twerking fashion. Dropping it low and sweeping the ground like a pro. Christian just watches in amazement at her ability to move. Finally after sometime solo dancing Kat comes back to Christian as 'My Type' by Saweetie comes on. She sings in a low tone in his ear as she get close and rolls her body still not touching his. She sings Jhene's rap perfecting and ads a very seductive smirk when she says, "You ain't never had a bitch from Slauson."
Christian follows her moves until she turns around and backs up on him. As she grinds he feels everything he had been watching all night and looks down in disbelief before looking up the sky mouthing 'lord' as Kat goes to work with her amazing dance moves.
After a few songs Kat turns around, "I'm hot." She informs and walks towards the pool. In one smooth motion she dives in.
Christian takes his shirt off and slides in cautiously. Kat's green eyes watch him move from just above the water line. She takes in his very toned body that she was sure he had. Christian slides in and wades out to Kat who still looks amazing with her slicked back hair.
"Honestly, you're really fucking cool." Kat admits as she stands up to be eye level with Christian who can barely focus on her words because of how inviting her body is.
"Honestly, you're overrated."
It just slipped out. With Kat being as distracting as she is and Christian being drunk. He didn't mean to insult her at all, but he did. The hurt, shock, and confusion run across Kat's face. She isn't used to people showing much control around her let alone being honest about how they feel.
"That's crazy." She laughs trying to brush off the immediate hurt Christian's comment has on her. Kat thought her and Christian have meshed since they met. He was a dope guy she could be relaxed around and not have to worry about trying to use her for clout. Clearly, Christian did not feel the same.
She nods at Christian who is trying to figure out what to say, but can come up with anything making him look three times as bad. Kat just laughs again and exits the pool trying to find her friends. When she can't she turns her phone on to see all her missed calls and text from Klay that she ignores. Kat grabs what is left of the champagne bottle and begins to chug.
"Didn't think I'd see you again." A new voice says.
Kat drops the bottle and pastes on a huge smile as Corey Seager saunters up with a beer in hand, "Damn daddy you still fine."
"You're incredible." He comments as he looks up soaking wet body up and down shaking his head in amazing.
Kat smirks, "So I've been told. Come buy me a drink." She croons and Corey follows as if he was floating from the arrow he's been struck with.
From off to the side Christian watches the encounter in pure amazement at how Kat can turn on her charm just like that. It is truly fascinating how she can go from nothing with Christian to 100 with Corey in seconds. It hits Christian then that she was never trying to get at him, but was really just trying to make friends. He wants to slap himself in the face for his stupidity. He had been overthinking the whole situation and now he's lost one of his best publicity options for his MVP campaign.
Out of nowhere Baker, Holland, and Tara pop up clearly unaware that Christian has pissed Kat off. As if nothing is wrong the four go one parting while Christian watches Kat entertain Corey out of the corner of his for the rest of the night.
