"I think we should tell someone," Albus said as he sat across from me at the library.
I raised an eyebrow. "Tell someone what exactly?"
"We tell McGonagall that someone is threatening us. She'll be able to offer some sort of protection and we don't have to pretend anymore."
"There's only a few more months left of the year—"
"Yes, but if I see you and Cath snogging again, I'm going to lose it."
"Al—"
"I know that it's just an act but don't you feel bad about leading Cath on like that?"
"Of course, I feel bad! But what choice do I have? If I don't do this then something bad will happen to you. They threatened something permanently bad would happen to you and I'm not willing to take that chance."
"You're not but I am." Al got up and started walking toward the exit.
"Al!" I called but he kept going.
I cursed and started hastily gathering my things. I stuffed it all in my bag before sprinting after him. I was almost to the stairs when I heard someone scream. I rushed to the railing to see Al sprawled on the steps of a staircase a few floors down. Blood surrounded his head and he wasn't moving. A crowd was forming around him as I rushed down to him. By the time I got there, Professor Longbottom was kneeling next to Al and I pushed through the crowd to kneel on Al's other side.
"Is he going to be okay?" I asked.
He was waving his wand over Al's head and I watched the blood return to Al's head. "He should be. His leg seems to be broken and there might be other injuries. Help me take him to the Hospital Wing."
****
Madam Pomfrey fixed up all Al's injuries but it had been two hours and he still wasn't awake. I had asked around to see if anyone saw what had happened but the only thing people saw was him falling. No one seemed to know if he had slipped or if someone pushed him. Though, I knew it was the latter. There was a note in Al's pocket that threatened me if Al were to tell any of the Professors about the threats. The note also reminded me about what happened if I didn't keep my mouth shut either. I knew we had run out of time. Again.
I brushed Al's hair from his eye and kissed his forehead.
"Scorp?" Al's voice was soft as he opened his eyes.
I smiled at him and took his hand in mine. "Hey, Al. How are you feeling?"
Albus struggled into a sitting position and I helped him. "I've been better."
"Do you remember what happened?"
"All I remember is as the stairs were moving, someone pushed me and I felt the crash before I passed out."
"You didn't see who did it?"
He shook his head. "I thought I saw a flash of green before I fell. It could possibly be someone in Slytherin but I couldn't be sure. No one else saw?"
"You two must have been the only two people on the staircase. The people below you only saw you fall. But that's not all." I pulled out the note. "I found this in your robe pocket."
Albus took the note and scanned the words. He sighed. "Why can't anything go right for us? This is my fault."
I took his other hand and squeezed them. "None of this is your fault. I was stupid to think that we could pretend and I shouldn't have put you at risk like that."
"If I'm not at fault then neither are you."
"I know but it doesn't change the fact that we can't see each other anymore."
"Scorp—"
"This accident could have killed you. If you'd fallen a few more floors you wouldn't be here. I would never forgive myself if you died because of me." I cupped his face in my hands. "I also think it would be better if we kept our distance as much as possible."
Tears filled Albus's eyes as he laid his forehead against mine. "I wish it didn't have to be this way."
"Me too." I kissed him softly. "I'll send a letter to my parents. We will figure out who's doing this and then we'll go back to being us."
***Jennifer Malfoy's POV***
I banged my head against the desk and let out a groan. Draco and I have been working for months, going through all those we had arrested and made a list of those who were connected to werewolves and cross-referencing those who had ties to Hogwarts. The list still consisted of twenty people and we had no way of ruling out any of them.
Draco came over a set down a bowl of soup in front of me. "You should take a break. You've been at it for hours."
I lifted my head up to look at him. "Yes, because he's after our son, Draco. Who knows what they'll do next and it's already been over five months! We should have figured it out by now!"
"Love, I know it's frustrating but we've hit a stalemate that we'll get out of. Also, McGonagall has been keeping an eye on Scorp and he'll be home in two months. Once he's here, he'll be safe." He pulled me out of my chair and into his arms. "But if you run yourself ragged then we'll never figure it out. You've always been the brains of this relationship and I'd be hopelessly lost without you."
I snorted. "Damn right you would."
Draco laughed and kissed my head. "Now eat something."
I related and was about to eat my soup when there was a knock at the door. Draco went to open it and I followed him out into the living room. Draco opened the door but once he saw who was there, he tried to shut the door in their face.
"Wait! Please, just hear me out!" I recognized the voice as Harry.
"There's nothing that you could say that would make you any less than an ass, Potter," Draco growled, trying to force the door closed.
"It's about our sons!"
"Let him in," I said.
Draco relented and Harry tumbled into the room, his hair messy and his glasses askew.
"Thank you," he breathed. He looked like he ran here.
I crossed my arms. "What about our sons?"
Harry took a deep breath. "I don't think the werewolf attack was a freak accident."
I scoffed. "No shit sherlock. If there's nothing else that you want to add—"
"I think that whoever did that is connected to the so-called accidents that have happened to my son. Someone is going after them both but I don't know why."
"What accidents?" I asked.
"A couple of months back there was a bludger incident that sent Al to the Hospital Wing and just yesterday he fell off a few flights of stairs. Not only that, I was talking with Hagrid and he told me that one night, Scorp came to his door sobbing and the next day he found out that he and Albus broke up. They broke up a few days after the bludger incident. All these things can't be a coincidence."
"So, you think the same person that is targeting our son is also threatening yours? That whoever is doing this wants to keep our sons apart?" Draco asked.
Harry nodded. "I reckon there's a lot of information that our sons are keeping from us."
"The full moon is in a few days," I said. "I'll send a letter to Scorp asking him to come home for the Change and we'll figure it out. Maybe whoever is doing this also has a connection to your family and we can narrow our list even further."
