WARNING! At the end of this part, you may be a little bit upset. I'm warning you now because I know how people get so worked up about this sort of stuff. I'll also leave a warning when we're near that part of the story, in case people don't want to read on.

For the rest of the day, Killua had decided to crawl into bed with you, hugging you tightly from behind in a warm embrace as you slept peacefully. Despite his promise to sleep, all he really did was close his eyes and bury his face in your hair, wrapping a lock of it around his finger and twirling it gently. This action itself made him more comfortable and soon enough, he felt himself drift off into sleep.

It was around midnight that you began to wake up, coughing a little as you realised it was dark and you could see nothing. A small wave of panic set in when you forgot who was holding you, and then you felt the grip tighten and you instantly remembered what had happened before you fell asleep.

I’m just glad he’s finally getting some sleep...and that he trusts me. You smiled at the thoughts that entered your head, as you yawned and felt a little light-headed. You knew that you weren’t going to be sick - you could usually tell when that happened. It was just a normal side effect to feeling ill, and that was all it would be.

You jumped when you felt Killua squirm a little in his sleep. You moved your head over to catch a glimpse of him, and then you saw his troubled face, since your eyes adjusted to the darkness that surrounded you.

“Killua...” You murmured, shifting your body to face him.

He held you tighter, whispering some inaudible things that you could only assume were part of a nightmare. You held out a hand and moved it lightly to his face, stroking his cheek gently and softly.

“I’m here...” You muttered, trying to bring some sense into him and hopefully wake him up. You could only imagine what he could be dreaming about right now.

It seemed that you had done the trick, as he slowly calmed to your voice and soothing gesture. It was a warm feeling to know that you could be the one to do that. Although Killua seemed strong, he was still a kid; just like you. When you were sure he was calm and finally asleep again, you slowly closed your eyes and fell asleep beside him.

In the morning, your eyes opened to see that Killua was gone. He probably got up before you and carefully moved so as not to wake you. You couldn’t help but smile at that thought. But then another thought entered your mind. The summer only has five days left...Got to make ‘em count.

Groaning, you sat up and could feel that your body had gotten a little bit better. You were still sick, but that was okay. You could at least get up and move around now; that would be a journey in itself.

Pulling the covers off of you, you felt the cold suddenly capture your body. It was a sudden change from the warmth of a previous body and some covers. Shivering, you swung your legs to the side of the bed and stood up, stretching your arms up with a long yawn.

Your body felt...weird, to say the least. Everything seemed pretty unnatural since you were still sick, and everything felt different than what it would usually. The carpet you stood on, which was usually a soft feeling, felt rough and annoying. The cold tiles of the bathroom floor felt too soft; it was like everything had swapped around for one day.

Emerging from your bathroom, you bumped into a certain blond. He’s back?!

“Kurapika?” You looked up at him. You honestly didn’t expect him to be back this early, but then your eyes widened.

He was stained with blood that obviously wasn’t his and his eyes bore a pure scarlet. Instead of fear, which you would’ve thought to be your natural reaction, worry sank in.

“Kurapika?! Are you okay?!”

“...Ah. I’m sorry, ___. No-one was supposed to see this...Not even Leorio...” Kurapika carefully brushed past you and went into the bathroom, locking himself in. You stared at the space where he had been.

He’s...changed. Kurapika...you’re only worrying everyone, being like this... You thought as you unconsciously made your way downstairs to raid the cupboards.

Upon seeing the living room, you sighed heavily. It was a mess of junk food and plates scattered on the floor. Gon was asleep on the couch, his hand bandaged so that it could heal. Leorio was sleeping beside him, his mouth open as he drooled. And much to your surprise, Killua was cleaning up the mess the two had made.

“Killua?” You called out to him, standing in the door way.

His head instantly turned towards you, “Oh, hey ___. They made a mess...sorry about this. Anyway, what’re you doing up? Get back in bed.”

“I’m hungry.” You huffed, folding your arms against your chest.

“Okay, okay, just go back upstairs and I’ll bring you something...I promise,” With a wink, he continued cleaning.

A sigh escaped your lips as you nodded, walking upstairs to your room once again. It seemed that Kurapika had decided to take a shower. He must be going through a lot to be as isolated as this, I’ve never seen Kurapika like this before...Maybe he’ll brighten up soon. He has to; school starts in only a few days.

Moving on into the bedroom, you crawled into bed and stared at the ceiling. Everything was going by so fast; it was like nothing this summer even happened. But everything did happen. And it all started with one phone call...a desperate phone call.

You shook your head and rolled onto your side. Now that you thought about it, was the phone call really that desperate? Sure, that was the only way you could describe it, but...something else must have been in that phone call. Anything.

This whole summer had been the most eventful one of your life. All because of that phone call that Killua had started. If Killua hadn’t started up his old habits...then maybe the summer would have been boring.

No! You told yourself, groaning. I can’t think that. Killua should never go back to old habits...but it made the summer exciting... Am I...glad that it happened?

Your eyes widened at that thought. That was the only possible explanation. ...That’s not right...why...? I have a sick mind...

“Oi, ___!” Killua suddenly shook you, making you jump. You quickly rolled around to face him, sitting up and putting on a smile. You couldn’t tell him anything of what you’ve just thought. It was horrible to think that way; and Killua really didn’t need to know anyway.

“I’m up, see?” You laughed a little as Killua just rolled his eyes and handed you some soup. He looked at you and was about to ask a question; and your mind struck with panic. He knew that something was on your mind.

Lie! “I bumped into Kurapika on my way out of the bathroom,” You told him. It wasn’t exactly a lie. You were worried about him.

“How was he?” Killua asked, sounding a little bit worried too.

“He wasn’t the same...” You murmured. “He’s changed, Killua. He’s worrying everyone; and I think he knows that.”

“We can’t do anything about it,” Killua replied, scratching the back of his head. “He’ll probably tell Leorio. Either that, or Leorio will get it out of him.”

“You’re right...” You sighed, eating some of the soup. Kurapika was hiding something. A secret? Maybe. But the blood on his clothes made you wonder how much he’s changed. Everyone knew he wanted to avenge his clan, and that nothing could substitute the lives lost five years ago. Was Kurapika finally realising this?

As if reading your thoughts, Killua shook his head, “Don’t worry so much. If he does finally realise...he knows he can’t stop.”

“...I know. It’s just...we’re all worried, Killua.” You looked at him with concern. “What if he doesn’t change?”

“What do you mean?” Killua stuck his hands in his pockets and sat down on the bed.

“I’m saying; what if he likes the way he is now?”

“That won’t happen. Kurapika knows what he’s doing is wrong, and he hates it.”

“It’s still a possibility...and if he hates it, why doesn’t he just stop?”

“___, he can’t stop. Now that he’s started...nothing will change the fact that he has to continue until every last one of them is dead. You know that fact as well as I do.” Killua stated; his eyes seemed blank and lost in thought, “And when they’re all dead...he should finally be okay. And we won’t have to worry anymore.”

“...This is why you’re all so content on helping him. It’s not just for friendship...it’s because you’re worried...”

“Exactly. I don’t want to talk about this anymore. I’ll check on you in an hour. Get some rest, okay?” Killua ruffled your hair and stood up, plopping his hand back in his pocket and walking out of the room, leaving you alone with the thoughts and the conversation that you had both just had.

Kurapika...please be okay. Your eyes wandered down the hall and to the bathroom. The door was still locked, and the noise from the shower was off. Shouldn’t he be getting out by now? What’s taking him so long?

Finishing your soup, you placed it aside. You knew you should be resting, but...Kurapika was an important friend. You got up and slowly walked to the bathroom, knocking on the door. “Kurapika? Are you okay in there? You’ve been in there for a while.”

(This is the second warning! Prepare yourself)

“I’m fine, ___. I’ll be out soon.” Kurapika didn’t speak in his normal voice. No...he sounded...depressed?

You looked at the door and realised it was unlocked. “I’m coming in.”

“___, wait!” It was too late. You opened the door and your eyes widened.

Kurapika was standing at the sink, blood being washed away from his slit arms. He was cutting.
