Dread filled Peter as he shrunk down in the assembly room, almost everyone else in the room sharing his unenthusiasm.
The principal had just announced the christmas concert, and every class was required to perform one song.
It would be quite a lot of classes, which was why the senior classes had the choice. Peter, unfortunately, was still not of that age, and shared a look with Ned, who looked as though he dreaded this as much as Peter.

Everyone sat in their desks with the music teacher who was helping their class to decide on a song, and all the other things that came with it.
"Alright, so I want everyone to write a song on a piece of paper that doesn't include swearing in it, and we're going to do a vote on those." The teacher told them, handing out small pieces of paper.
Five different people asked to borrow a pen, for most didn't bother bringing one to class- especially since the exams were over and there was essentially no work to be done since report cards had been sent out.
Peter had gotten all A's again, which he was pretty proud of, and so was his family, the report card being stuck on the fridge.
Peter tapped his pen against the desk, chewing his lip and trying to decide on a song. MJ had already written hers down, and was reading at her desk.
In the end, Peter just wrote down The Days by Avicci, which he had sung with his class when he graduated primary school (or whatever it's called in America- elementary school??) because he couldn't think of anything else.
The teacher read aloud the options, their normal teacher writing everything down on the whiteboard.
"We've got the little einsteins theme song remix, Halo, Another one bites the dust, this is me, good things come to those who wait, shotgun, cooking by the book lazy town remix, rock you, warrior, sleigh ride, there's nothing holding me back, the days, royals, see you again, baby it's cold outside, and underneath the tree. The others are inappropriate songs that we're not considering as options." The teacher told the class. "Now, you can only vote once, so hands up for the little einstein's theme song remix?"
Quite a few people's hands went up, and soon enough it was narrowed down to two songs; cooking by the book lazy town remix, and rock you.
Eventually, with the teacher's voting as well, they ended up with rock you.
That was when they dropped the bigger bomb: auditions for solos, compulsory for everyone, including poor Anna, who had social anxiety.

The room was empty aside from the music teacher and the normal teacher, the loud chatter of students outside the door heard by Peter's ears.
"Hello Mr Parker, before we begin, we have a couple of questions for you." The music teacher told him, clicking her pen and looking up from her clipboard with a smile.
"Um, okay." Peter said awkwardly, fiddling with his sweaty hands.
"Do you play any instruments?"
"Y-yes, I uh, learnt how to play the guitar a while ago but I'm uh, a little rusty..."
"Would you say that you're a good singer?"
"I think I'm an okay singer, I mean, I'm not the best..."
"Alright, sing something, anything at all."
Peter swallowed, trying to think of the lyrics to a song. He cleared his throat, then began.
"I was scared of dentists and the dark," he sang, eyes trained on the piece of paper in the corner of the desk. "I was scared of pretty girls and starting conversations, and all my friends are turning green, you're the magicians assistant in their dreams." Peter sang the rest of the song up until the end of the first chorus, then glanced up at the two teachers nervously.
They sat there, gaping, for several seconds.
"Wow, that was brilliant, you'll be great in the solo."
Peter's heart flipped. "Wait what-"
"Next please!"
"Now hold on a sec-"
"Sarah, come on in."
"I can't have a solo-"
"You'll do great, now we need to talk to Sarah, you're free to go Mr Parker."
Peter stood up and left the room, slightly pale.
"Dude what happened?" Ned asked, noticing how shaken up Peter looked.
"I got a solo, but I don't want a solo but they're making me anyway!"
Ned looked at him sympathetically, patting his shoulder. "Bad luck mate, but MJ said she got a solo too, so you're not alone."
"MJ's an amazing singer though," Peter pointed out.
"Thanks Peter." MJ said from behind him, making him jump in surprise.
"Oh uh- you're welcome... anyway, if the other's find out about this I'm dead!"

"So Peter, what should I wear to Midtown's christmas concert?" Tony asked during dinner that night, twirling his fork through his spaghetti.
Peter almost choked on his spaghetti, face flushing pink, and Thor began thumping his massive hand against Peter's back, which made more problems than it solved.
"H-how?" Peter asked, eyes watery from coughing.
"It was in the schools newsletter. Also, your teacher sent out an email reminding us to remind you to practice. I've already reserved seats for everyone, don't worry."
Peter groaned loudly, dropping his head into his hands.
Wanda chuckled, patting his shoulder. "We're not going to embarrass you Peter, besides, it's in a group isn't it?"
"Yeah... but I've got a solo..." Peter mumbled, eyes trained on his bowl, where he was pushing his food around.
Tony had an even bigger grin on his face, if that was possible. "Oh this is going to be great," he said, causing almost everyone else to send him glares.
"What? I'm gonna be able to see my son perform, and he's gonna have a solo and outshine everyone else. What isn't going to be great about that?"
Peter rolled his eyes and stood up, bringing his bowl with him. "I'm gonna go finish in my bedroom, I need to practise. Please don't interrupt."
Everyone bid goodbye, and Peter slipped into his room to practise. He had highlighted his parts, and used spotify to have background music. He was glad it was a simple song, and he only had a few parts to sing.

Today was the day. Everyone was in costume, which they had brought in their bags so the parents didn't see and ruin the surprise.
Peter's curly hair was sprigged up in a little bit of a mess, curls spilling into his face, and he had put black paint on his face with two fingers on each cheek. He wore a tee shirt and a red flannel checked shirt, with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows, paired with worn, ripped jeans and thick doc martins boots.
Every other boy in the class wore similar clothing, and the girls also wore edgy, rock clothing. MJ's outfit for example, consisted of a black and white Queen t-shirt, a red flannel checked shirt that was tied into a knot near the waist, the red sleeves pulled to her elbows. She wore a black denim skirt, black stockings, and small brown ankle boots. Her long brown curls was tugged in a half up half down style, and she had black nail polish and black paint on her cheeks, just like Peter's.
Everyone was nervously waiting backstage, listening to the other classes, some doing a great job.
Most other classes had done christmas songs, but a few had done normal songs, such as shotgun, (a song rather popular at the moment) or a song called ocean eyes by Billie Eilish.
All too soon, their class was called to the stage.
"Introducing, Mrs Edith's class singing Rock you!" The music teacher announced, then left the stage, the class walking out and taking their positions on the stage. Those with solos were in the front, so Peter was in the front in the middle, beside MJ and another girl named Edie.
The music started, and everyone began by stamping their feet on the ground then clapping their hands, the audience following suit. Peter took a deep breath, then began.
"Buddy you're a boy make a big noise, playin' in the street gonna be a big man some day, you got mud on yo' face, you big disgrace, kickin' your can all over the place, singin-"
"We will, we will, rock you. We will, we will, rock you." The entire class sang, still stamping their feet and clapping their hands.
MJ sang the next part.
"Buddy you're a young man hard man, shoutin' in the street gonna take on the world some day, you got blood on yo' face, you big disgrace, wavin' your banner all over the place."
"We will, we will rock you!"
"Sing it!" MJ yelled.
"We will, we will rock you!" By this point, some of the audience (the classes who had already performed) were singing along.
"Buddy you're an old man poor man, pleadin' with your eyes gonna make you some peace some day, you got mud on your face, big disgrace, somebody better put you back into your place." Edie sang.
"We will, we will, rock you. (Sing it!) We will, we will, rock you." The whole class, plus the audience sang, including the sing it part.
"Everybody!" Edie yelled.
"We will, we will, rock you. We will, we will, rock you."
"Alright." Edie said, the guitar solo, played by Mike, the best guitar player in the class, taking over the rest of the song.
Once the song came to an end, the audience stood up and applauded. "That's my intern!" Tony yelled loudly, causing Peter to blush even redder than he had been for the entirety of the performance.
Everyone bowed, then left the stage, immediately freaking out about how nervous they had all been. They had all been in the same boat though, and soon they were sneaking into the audience and sitting with their families. Peter slipped into the row that his family had been sitting in, and they realised he didn't have a seat. Tony and Steve just moved over slightly, so Peter squished himself between them, on half of both of their seats, trying not to rest his head on Tony's shoulder- the whole nervousness of the performance making him tired.
He knew if he did that in public however, it would end up on the internet and there would be a huge scandal and everyone would think that he was Tony's son.
After watching the rest of the performances and listening to the principals forty minute end of year speech, they were finally able to go home.
It was a little slow, seeing as everyone wanted selfies with the avengers and the principal was hinting to donations to the school when he was talking to Tony. Poor Steve was bombarded with children saying things to him that he had mentioned in his PSA's, which were shown countless times at the school.
"So. You got detention. You screwed up. You know what you did was wrong, the question is, how are you going to make things right?" One kid said, stopping beside where Steve was waiting for Tony awkwardly. Peter stifled a giggle beside him; nearly everyone in the school had memorised the psa's by now.
"Maybe you were trying to be cool. Take it from a guy who's been frozen for 65 years, the only way to really be cool, is to follow the rules."
"We all know what's right, we all know what's wrong, next time those turkeys try to convince you to do something you know was wrong, just think to yourself, what would captain america do?"
Steve closed his eyes and took a deep breath, giggles erupting from Peter beside him.
"The funniest thing is, you don't even follow the rules most of the time." Peter told him, grinning. The two kids in front of him were still giggling at him.
"How often do they play those?" Steve sighed, defeated.
"Every detention," the first kid said.
"Every fitness class," the second kid said.
"Most health classes," Peter said.
"You get the idea." The two other kids said together. Peter wondered if they were twins.
Not too long later, someone yelled something at him from across the room. "Whether you're a student, or a soldier, there's one thing that will always give you an edge."
"A hot lunch!" Said nearly everyone in the room. Steve's face went pink and he tapped Tony on the shoulder. The rest of the avengers were cracking up laughing so hard there was tears in their eyes.
"Tony we need to go. Please."
Tony sighed then bid the principal goodbye and wrapped an arm around Peter's shoulders, leading them all out of the room, away from where the teens were currently all quoting the psas in unison.
"If you're on fire, stop, drop, and roll." Several people yelled as they left the room. The avengers were giggling, as well as Peter and Pepper, and paid no mind to the murderous glare he sent everyone.
They clambered into the different cars, then stopped at maccas on the way to get ice cream just because they wanted it.
It tasted good.
