CHAPTER FIFTEEN
STILES, STOP SPAZZING OUT

✦✧✦✧✦

Violet awoke the next morning feeling different. She rewound the tape in her mind and looked back at the events of the previous night. The Kanima escaped, Scott almost died, and Violet had kissed Stiles.

Turning her phone back on, Violet planned on avoiding Stiles for as long as possible. It was spring break so that would factor in, but supernatural problems don't take a spring break, so seeing Stiles would most likely be inevitable.

Scott barged into Violet's room seconds later, startling the Latina, "Oh, good. You're up. We gotta go, come on. Stiles is waiting outside."

"I'm not dressed." Violet stammered, reaching for an excuse to her brother's sudden entrance. Looking down at her phone; Violet saw a text from Allison that read: meet up at my house. girl's day. "I have plans with Allison. Could you guys maybe drop me off there?"

Scott let out an exhausted sigh, "fine. Be quick." he said, closing the door.

✦✧✦

"Maybe more curve-hugging." Lydia said in response to Violet's fifth dress. The McCall girl restrained herself from rolling her eyes as she stripped the dress off her body and pulled out the next one from the bag. It was a deep purple dress lined with sparkles. As soon as Violet put it on, Lydia's face brightened and Violet sighed in relief that it would be the last dress she would try on that day.

"Perfect. Allison, you're next." Lydia perked up, making Allison and Violet change spots as Allison pulled a random dress out of the Macy's bag Lydia had brought with her when there was a knock that made the three girls turn to the origin of the sound. "Mrs. Argent. What do you think of this one?" Lydia asked when they realized it was merely Allison's mother at the door. Violet noticed the beads of sweat rolling down the woman's face.

"Uh, it's lovely." Allison's mother politely dismissed. "Allison, can I grab you for a moment, to talk? Just the two of us." Her mother asked.

Violet furrowed her eyebrows slightly as Allison looked awkwardly at her; embarrassed to say the least. "Um, can we do it later?" Allison asked.

"Actually, sooner would be better." Mrs. Argent replied, rubbing at something on her shoulder.

Violet shot Mrs. Argent a bizarre look. Scott did mention something of a kerfuffle with Allison's mom when they'd gotten home the previous night, but Violet brushed it off as being something of Allison's crazy family's ticks. Violet told Scott not to worry about it since the Argent's had been trying to kill Scott since they found out he was a werewolf and it was nothing new. Mrs. Argent was gone when Violet looked up again and pretended to brush it off just as Allison and Lydia had done.

✦✧✦

Violet and Allison arrived at Lydia's house together that evening for the "party of the year". The quote had been debatable factoring in everything that had happened regarding Lydia in the past couple of weeksβ€”inevitably being at the hands of Scott and the gang. The girls prepared for the worst. On the way, Allison had confided to Violet that she and Scott had gotten into an argument of sorts at the rave, and Violet agreed that her brother needed to apologize.

She still hadn't told anyone about the kiss between she and Stiles, however, and Violet doubted that Stiles would've mentioned the news to Scott since the previous night. I was out of my mind, she told herself. But she only lied to herself when she said that.

Ringing the doorbell to Lydia's gargantuan house, the door swung open seconds later to reveal Lydia in heavy makeup holding a tray that held several cups of pink liquid. Quickly ushering the girls inside, Lydia practically shoved the drinks at them. Delicious as they were, Violet couldn't quite put her finger on what the flavor was. The smell wasn't a stranger to her senses, but it ate away at her as she and Allison waited for more guests to arrive.

✦✧✦

Scott and Stiles arrived soon after and as they walked the halls of Lydia's house they looked for both Violet, Allison, and Jackson, "We have to tell the girls what we found out. Have you seen Jackson?" Stiles asked.

"No. Seen Allison?" Scott replied.

"Nahβ€”we should tell her what we found. Speaking of, where's Vi?" Stiles said.

"I don't know. She left with Allison."

"This is a goddamned conspiracy." Stiles muttered as he continued on, looking for at least one of the three people he and Scott were looking for that night.

"Wait, what did we find?" Scott asked.

"I figured out it has something to do with water. You know, the fact that all the victims were on the swim team, the way the Kanima reacted around the pool."

"So..whoever's controlling the Kanima really hates the swim team?" Scott concluded, only to be met with a look of slight confirmation.

"Hated the swim team. Specifically the 2006 swim team. So it could be another teacher. Maybe like a student back then. I mean, who are we missing? What haven't we thought of?" Stiles asked, pausing his thought process when Allison walked up the steps in the backyard, approaching the two boys.

"Uh, Jackson's not here." Allison said.

"Where's Vi? I've been meaning to talk to her." Stiles asked frantically.

"About what?" Both Allison and Scott asked.

"Don't worry about it." Stiles said dismissively.

"She's in the bathroom." Allison answered.

"Where is everyone? Thought this was supposed to be the party of the year." Stiles noticed, noting the emptiness of the place.

"Maybe it's just early." Scott said.

"Or maybe it's because everyone thinks Lydia is a walking bomb." Violet whispered behind Scott and Stiles as she made her way outside, only to walk around and start up a conversation with Lydia, who stood on the other side of the backyard.

"Vi! You look grβ€”and she's gone." Stiles inhaled deeply with an annoyed expression.

A few minutes passed and Violet and Lydia were deeply engaged in a conversation about how the Kardashians were the new Kennedy's when Stiles advanced toward her at the same time that the doorbell rang inside the house. Lydia excused herself as she went to answer the door, but not before handing Violet another glass of punch before she left.

Violet was surprised to see Stiles so close in proximity to her that she dropped her glass, making it shatter onto the ground, "Stilesβ€”!"

"Oh, my god, I'm so sorry." Stiles said leaning down to help Violet clean up the shattered glass on the floor. Stiles began picking up the glass quickly, and it was no shock to Violet when he sliced his hand. The biggest indicator of his incident was when he began muttering profanities and blood began to pool on his hand. Violet looked up and carefully dropped the glass shards in her hands, then gave first aid to Stiles.

Calling Scott over to deal with the glass, Violet led Stiles into the bathroom where she stuck his hand under cold water and searched for a disinfectant. "Violet, we need to talk." Stiles said over the running water.

"You just sliced your hand open, Stiles. Can it wait?" Violet asked exasperatedly, setting down a bottle of hydrogen peroxide and a container of gauze. She shut off the water, trying not to make any eye contact before pouring the peroxide on his wound.

He almost squealed when the liquid touched his hand and would've pulled away had it not been for Violet's steel grip on his wrist, "Stiles, stop spazzing out!" she exclaimed, looking at his pained face.

His face returned to normal within a few seconds and Violet realized they had maintained their gaze. Stiles cleared his throat, "it actually doesn't hurt anymore." he said awkwardly, looking away.

"You're such a baby." Violet said with the slightest hint of humor in her voice as she wrapped his hand with gauze. "Good to go. I'll see youβ€”"

Stiles stopped Violet with his newly bandaged hand. "We need to talk about that kiss, Vi."

Violet was silent for a few seconds before speaking, "what kiss?" she asked. Stiles' face dropped from one of seriousness to disappointment.

"What do you mean what kiss? You kissed me last night outside the rave."

"I don't know what you're talking about." Violet said, as much as it pained her on the inside to say so, she didn't let it show.

"This is bullshit." Stiles said before storming out of the bathroom, slamming the door on his way out.

Violet closed her eyes, letting a tear slip out as she took a deep breath. Wiping the tear away, Violet started out of the bathroom, but bumped into someoneβ€”it was Stiles.

"We have to talk about it. Please." Stiles said.

Violet furrowed her eyebrows and pointed towards the door, "but you justβ€”"

"I just what?" he asked, turning to face the closed bathroom door. "I don't know what game you're playing, but we need to talk."

She shook the thought out of her head, "right." she agreed.

"Why did you kiss me then just walk away like nothing happened?" Stiles asked.

"It was a heat of the moment thing, Stiles. It didn't mean anything. And I'm dating Isaac so even if it meant something...nothing would've happenedβ€”nothing could've happened. Stiles, I'll take the fall for this, but it didn't mean anything."

"The way you kissed me, though. You didn't feel that spark?"

"No, I'm sorry."

Stiles looked devastated. Violet could have sworn she almost saw tears building up in his eyes, but she hurried out of the bathroom before any more damage could be done. She walked past Scott on the stairs after pushing through the multitude of people that now filled Lydia's house. Her brother stared intently at the window seat at the end of the hallway as if there was someone there.

Violet tapped her brother on the shoulder as his expression became more disgusted as time went on. He was startled out of his trance with a look of fear as he did a double-take between his sister and the window. "What happened?" Violet asked.

Scott shook his head, "nothing. Don't worry about it." he said, walking up the final step and going into the bathroom where Stiles still stood. Making her way down the steps to the now bustling party, Violet found another tray with several cups full of the punch Lydia was shoving down people's throats. Peering into a few of the glasses, Violet noticed something about each drink. They all had a petal of a purple flower inside them.

"Weird." Violet muttered, fishing one of the petals out of a cup and drying it with a paper towel she'd found in the kitchen. After dabbing the mysterious flower with the towel for a few seconds, a look of recognition spread over Violet's face and she sniffed the petal. It's familiar sweet scent, Violet almost slapped herself for not realizing what the plant was sooner.

It was wolfsbane.

If Violet had hallucinated her encounter with Stiles in the bathroom, there was a more than likely chance that Scott's terrified expression on the stairs was nothing short of a hallucination as well. Violet searched all around Lydia's house for Allison to tell her the news, but came up with nothing. Instead she found Stiles cowering in a corner as if something had just been thrown at him in the courtyard. Tears filled his eyes and he looked almost terrified.

"Stiles?" Violet reached out, lightly grazing his shoulder. He snapped his neck over to look at her in astonishment before walking away with a cold look in his eye. She felt her heart break in that exact moment. Their friendship would never be the same. As if Stiles' confession of love had jump-started the crack and Violet's kiss had shattered the rest of their relationship.
