Nia Riley

"So this is the final apartment I have to show you today, if you don't like it I'll find some more and we can link before the week is over." Ebony explained to me while unlocking the door.

We were at a newly constructed loft maybe twenty minutes from downtown LA, and the exterior looked gorgeous.

I had been thinking about a small one story house, but realistically my photography was taking off and I was taking trips more often, and wouldn't be able to keep up with the maintenance.

"So it's an open concept loft, as you can definitely see, wide windows, great view, and if you like it, you can get it already furnished.

We walked around the whole thing, taking in the large bathroom with a his and her sink, walk in shower, and great selfie taking mirror.

"This is really nice Ebony."

"It is right? I saw it and immediately thought of you."

I smiled. "Aww sis, I appreciate you so much."

"Of course, show me you appreciate me by choosing one of the ones I showed you and not making me find more."

"So damn lazy, can we go eat? I need food to think."

"Yeah let's go, I need a drink anyways."

I followed Ebony out of the loft, making sure to take pictures before I left so I'd be able to make my decision.

I had texted Dave hours ago, and he had finally responded when we reached Ebony's G Wagon.

I just left the studio - Dave, 12:25 PM

Ever since Dave had called me when I was with Chris, he'd been so dry and distant, and I was on my last piece of patience with the situation.

He knew I was trying to figure out what I needed to do, and he knew I was still at Chris's house, so I don't know why he was treating me this way.

I understood emotions got in the way, and took things to a different level, but damn, he could at least tell me how he felt, not just give me the cold shoulder.

Fuck it, I was gonna tell him how I felt. If he wanted to continue to be dry after that, then he had all the space, time, and opportunity to.

Ebony drove away from the lofts we had just looked at and merged so she could get on the freeway.

"It's close as hell to downtown too Nia, I think this is the one." She emphasized as my FaceTime call started to connect.

"I think it is too Ebony. Hello?"

Dave's face popped up on my screen, and apparently he was in the car too.

"Wasgood?"

"Nigga what you mean what's good?" I rolled my eyes. "I been calling and texting you and you just been dry since I told you about me hanging out with Chris."

"I been busy." He paused. "Wassup?"

"Alright David, fuck it and fuck you." My finger slid to the end button and I locked my phone after hearing the three beeps.

"Not trouble in paradise." Ebony looked over at me.

"Girl, he been on some emotional shit for the past few days since I told him I was driving with Chris to get slushees."

"Emotional or jealous because he has obvious feelings for you?" She laughed sarcastically.

"Jealous over what? Me and Chris hardly talk, so we finally sat down and talked about our situation, and I'm glad we did, so fuck them emotions."

"Okay Ms.Stiff, we're loving this big puss energy."

We laughed as Ebony pulled into the parking lot of Lotus, and my phone started ringing.

"Let's see if that puss still fat girl."

"Always gone be fat, hello?"

"What you getting mad and hanging up in my face for?" Dave's face screwed up in confusion.

We hopped out the car and headed towards the line to get in. It was a weekday, but this hoe was packed, with a line coming out of the door.

"Cause I'm tired of you being dry with me, weren't you busy? Be busy." I shrugged.

"When I ain't on your time and your terms I'm being dry?"

Exactly.

"No, but when I know you feel a type of way and you won't let me know what's going on, of course it's dry."

"I'on feel no type of way, I'm cooling, I told you I'm tryna finish Karma 2."

I nodded. "Well good luck with that."

"Now you being dry."

"I'm about to eat with Ebony, we just looked at apartments."

"You found sum?"

"I think so, I just need somewhere to keep my clothes and lay my head, I'm tryna see the world though."

"Well let me know when you're settled cause I still want you to come out here and see me. I got some things I wanna talk about and this distance ain't it."

"Things like what?" Now he had all my attention, fuck a dry.

"Find a flight I'ma send the bread."

"Simp ass nigga!" One of his friends yelled from somewhere in the Escalade they usually rode in when in a large group.

Ebony and I burst out in laughter, and Dave just rolled his eyes. "Right, but you asked me to have my old phone so you could get hoes numbers out that bitch."

"I know you lying." Ebony laughed. "That's lower than low."

"And your wig look faker than fake."

Ebony reached over and ripped my phone from my grip. "But a bitch is richer than rich, and I know you can't feel that, you look like Omarion in you got served. You got cornrows and it's 2018, let that hairline and them feed,-"

I interrupted them. "Okay okay everyone, time to eat. Dave I'll text you."

"Bye Coolio!" Ebony laughed before I pressed the red phone button.

"Bitch you're wrong." I laughed as we moved to the front of the line to order.

"No Dave and his friends with them tired ass braids are wrong, better get their 'touch' asses on and go 'touch' some money."

Once Ebony was turnt up, there wasn't any coming down.

"Anyways, I like the last place you showed me."

"Like it like you wanna live in it?"

I nodded. "I need something quick, I told you I need to be in my own space."

"Then you know I'll do what I have to do babe."

Christopher Maurice Brown

"So Chris, I know you've heard the usual questions like why do you come in to talk today, but I'm gonna reword it. What was the breaking point that made you realize that you needed to talk today?"

I looked down at my Jordan cement 3's and thought about what she had asked, since it hadn't been worded like that to me.

What was my breaking point? I felt like I had been there many times, but things just kept going lower and lower.

It should've been when I picked up any drug other than weed, but it didn't stop then.

It should've been before I lost my relationship with Nia, but now I had to focus on being the best father to Royalty, and I couldn't jeopardize that at all.

"Everything's been going wrong, for the past few months, and I've been dealing with it in the wrong ways."

"Wrong ways like what?"

"Drugs, but I got a child, so I gotta get it together, period." I sighed. I couldn't believe I was talking to this white lady about problems she couldn't relate to, but I had got the random idea after seeing Mina and Jordan at the cemetery.

"What's been going wrong?"

"It's really only one thing, but it just stemmed into a whole bunch of things, I just need to get over it but it's gonna take time you know? You don't fall in love in a day, so you can't fall out in a day. I just hate that she acts like she can."

"Who's she Chris?" Dr. Porter asked, her eyebrows raising.

"My fiancé Nia, well my ex fiancé now, she's in love with someone else, and I don't know how to accept it or let go."

"How long have you known each other?"

"Umm, it's been close to three years, we used to be neighbors, but we've been through so much together, it's just hard to let it go, I don't want to move on, and I hate that I'm being forced to."

She nodded like she understood where I was coming from. "You've been diagnosed with bipolar disorder correct?"

"Correct."

"If you allow me to I wanna delve into that more, because I feel like lack of treating that is making everything in your life just seem more hectic and deeper than it really is. You know your issues, and you want to address them, which is a great start Chris, so be proud of yourself. I know things are hard, but we just need to focus on one thing at a time, okay?"

"Okay." I nodded.

This therapy thing usually didn't work, but I was willing to put my all into this with Dr.Porter, cause unlike everyone else she genuinely seemed like she wanted to help me, which was all I wanted.

"I wanna see you again Chris, I think I could really help relieve your mind and thoughts of all this anxiety, it's gonna take work though."

I nodded again, this time with a smile on my face. I hadn't smiled since I walked in the building, but now I was actually optimistic.

"I'm ready."
