Requested. Sorry I've been taking so long to finish requests.
It was late when Virgil finally decided to go to sleep for the night. He had waited until he was sure everyone else was in bed too, not wanting anyone to go and check on him at any point during the night. He didn't want anyone seeing him while he slept; mostly because he didn't want them to think he was strange for the way he slept.
Virgil was often plagued with nightmares while he rested. It was part of being anxiety. All of the things he worried about during the day continued to bother him in his sleep-only much, much worse. At least in his thoughts during the day he could tell that what was happening wasn't reality. In dreams he was always sure that everything was real.
So, Virgil did what he had to to prevent himself from experiencing them every night. He waited until it was late enough that no one would come in, climbed into bed and felt himself become smaller. Using his ability to shape shift, Virgil made himself appear as a tiny black cat, curled up even smaller on top of his pillow, and fell asleep much easier than he would on nights he didn't shape shift. That's what he did that night as well, curling up and drifting off easily.
Normally no one came to wake Virgil up in the morning. They seemed to accept the fact that he was always going to sleep in late, and they left him until he decided to get up. However that morning it didn't seem that he was going to be that lucky.
"Virgil?" Patton called, popping up in the sides bedroom. Virgil was easily woken by the sound, taking a moment to process what was happening. He froze when he realized, staying as still as possible in the hopes that maybe the dad-like side would simply go away. He knew it wasn't going to be that easy when instead the father figure made his way over to the bed.
When Virgil glanced up to see what Patton was doing he found the side looking straight at him, eyes lighting up and grin stretching across his face. He looked like he was about to scream from excitement, but he held it back. Instead he jumped in place a few times before slowly reaching out to Virgil, talking to him in a baby voice as he pet him.
"Oh my gosh, you're so cute!" He whispered excitedly, stepping closer and moving to pick him up. Virgil was still frozen in shock. He didn't know what he should do-should he play along and hopefully try to keep his secret, or tell Patton it was him so he would leave him alone? He was going to do the latter when Patton made a noise or excitement, shocking him and making him forget what he had been thinking.
"Oh! I should show you to the others! I'm sure they'll think you're adorable too!" He grinned, and before Virgil had any time to make an escape Patton left to see Thomas and the other sides.
"Isn't he so cute?" Patton asked after finding everyone, showing them the tiny black cat in his arms. Thomas and Roman immediately stepped closer to fawn over the animal, Logan standing back and watching them.
"Where did you even find a cat?" Logan asked, watching him swat at Roman with his paws.
"He was in Virgil's room! I found him curled up on the pillow when I went to wake him up." Patton smiled, petting the cat again.
"He belongs to Virgil? No wonder he seems to hate me," Roman frowned dramatically, trying to pet the cat too only to get hissed at.
"If he is Virgil's cat then why was he hidden from us?" Logan questioned, stepping closer to see the cat better. The cat looked straight back at him, making him feel uncomfortable. Logan looked away from the cat again to look back up at Patton. "And where exactly is Virgil anyways?"
"I'm not sure. He wasn't in his room," Patton frowned, handing the cat over to Thomas when he asked to hold it. "Do you think he's alright?"
"I'm sure he'll show up sometime today." Roman shrugged, still trying to get the cat to like him. "I think we should worry about that later. This cat is simply too adorable to ignore!"
"Well... I still want to be sure he's okay," Patton said. Suddenly the cat jumped out of Thomas' hands, using the couch to climb into Patton's arms and looking up at him. He watched the side for a moment before cuddling against his chest, purring and making Patton grin again. "Okay... maybe we can play with him for a while, but then we really need to find Virgil!"
Time quickly got away from them all, leading to them playing with the cat for most of the day. Thomas and Patton's allergies slowly started to get to them more and more, and eventually Logan had to say something about it.
"We can't keep him," Logan said suddenly, speaking carefully. The other three all looked at him pleadingly, already going to argue when Logan spoke again. "We do not have the time to take care of a cat! Not only that but Patton, Thomas, you are both very allergic to him. It is simply not a good idea to have him here."
The other three all began to talk over one another with different arguments, none that could be understood over the others talking. Logan tried to get them all to calm down, getting louder to try to talk over them. They only stopped when the cat jumped away from all of them, each of them turning to look as he stopped next to them all. They watched in confusion as the cat slowly began to change, all of them surprised when they saw Virgil, still in his pajamas, standing in front of them.
"Virgil?" Patton asked, frowning. "But... we thought you were-why were you a cat?"
Virgil looked down at his feet, pulling the sleeves of his pajamas shirt down over his hands nervously. "I-uh... it helps me sleep?"
"How does that help you sleep?" Roman questioned, yelping when Thomas elbowed him.
"Don't be rude," he mumbled as Roman huffed.
"It was just a question." He shrugged. Virgil smiled nervously, shaking his head.
"It's fine. I know it's... weird. I don't know why it helps, but I don't have nightmares as bad when I sleep that way." He explained.
"Why didn't you tell us it was you from the beginning?" Patton questioned, frown still on his face. He saw Virgil's face turn red, turning away from them for a moment and taking a deep breath.
"At first I was a little panicked. I didn't know what to do because I didn't want you guys to think I was weird." He answered honestly. "And then... well, it was kind of nice I guess. How you were treating me... that's the most positive attention I've ever gotten from any of you. I didn't want it to stop, I guess."
Virgil's face burned even more as he finished, eyes filling up with tears. His swallowed down a lump in his throat, choking out a quiet apology. He didn't know what he expected to be their reaction, but he certainly hadn't been expecting four pairs of arms to be thrown around him in a giant hug with him in the middle.
"We're so sorry, Virgil!" Patton spoke quickly.
"We did not realize we weren't showing you enough positive attention." Logan continued for him.
"We will definitely try harder to make you feel more accepted." Roman promised. "We don't want you to feel left out at all."
"We love you Virgil." Thomas added on, and Virgil was definitely crying now. He leaned into their hugs, tears probably falling onto one of the others shirts but no one seemed to care. Virgil couldn't help but smile even as they all continued to reassure him, even as his tears still fell. It took some time for him to stop crying and calm down, only pulling back from the group hug when all his tears had already fallen.
"So, just to be clear," he began, in between joking and being serious. "You're sure you guys don't just love me more when I looked like a cat?"
"Of course not!" Patton answered for all of them, pulling him into one more brief hug and kissing the top of his head. Virgil smiled down at the floor as he continued, thinking of just how much he loved his friends. "We love you for you, no matter what you look like."
I hope this was alright??? I don't really like the ending but hopefully you like it, I guess?
Anyways-I'm actually very surprised at the amount of people who said they'd read my original wattpride story. Like, I was expecting maybe 2 people to actually be interested in reading it, but I'm really glad you guys seem to like the idea. I'm currently working on the first part so as soon as I upload it I'll let you know.
Also just like, I'm really sorry if I start complaining here randomly, or if I disappear for a while or something. I really am trying hard to keep up with updating my books Tally Marks and Haunted High School, and I am trying to get back into updating this regularly, but I'm also very very sad and because of that I've been sleeping terribly and I'm tired and I don't really feel like doing much, so please forgive me if I fall behind. Like..... I know I already am very behind, but I might end up even more behind.
And like..... I know you guys have already been telling me that it's okay if I take a while on requests! And it's okay if I take some time for myself! But I can't just...... not apologize, I just feel very paranoid about it and kinda like I'm disappointing everyone so I'm sorry. It's not even just about me writing on Wattpad, I'm literally terrified rn that I'm just disappointing all of my friends and family so like...... I'm just not having an awesome time right now, so feel free to ignore my constant apologies if it bugs you.
Even tho it's almost 4:30 in the morning now I may try and stay up to write another oneshot or something so, we'll see if that works out. I would try to go to bed but I'm not sleeping very good currently so might as well be productive right?
Anyway, thanks for reading. I really hope you liked this oneshot. *
* you guys are all super sweet and I love you. 💜💜💜💜 Please take better care of yourself than I am currently lol, you guys are super awesome and important and you deserve to feel that way. Love you all. Bye-Bob
