Sean POV
Lunch the next day
The game yesterday was on a Thursday so we still had to go to school today on Friday
It was weird, our school didn't have many upperclassmen tryout for the team so the team this year was mostly composed of freshman
So our school usually lets the bench play against opposing junior varsity and freshman teams and the starters don't play to keep things fair
And there's a game for them today so the team is still lively and energetic over the upcoming game
I head over to the table and see it full...people even pulled up separate chairs to squeeze in
"Oh sorry dude I told the Chloe she could sit with me today" Julian said to me as there were two girls next to him one being his girlfriend and "And she couldn't leave her friend Lexee by herself"
"It's okay dude" I said as it honestly wasn't a big deal
"And tell Josh the same thing" Julian said and now I understood, he didn't want me and Josh near him today
"Kay"
I saw Josh walking towards the table with his lunch but I shook my head no
"What's wrong?" Josh asked me and I explained Julian to him "Wow if anything I should be the one upset!"
"I thought you would have gotten over it" I said as we started looking somewhere to eat
"I would have if coach didn't text me to say I'm playing with junior varsity today" Josh said as I found Kaycee and her friend Bailey
"Really? Why?" I asked as Josh just followed me to Kaycee's table with no questions asked
"He said I needed to calm down and focus so basically he's benching me" Josh said as we sat down in front of Kaycee and Bailey who were confused
"Um hi Sean, hi Josh" Kaycee said to us
"Hey our table is full do you mind if we sit here?" Josh asked trying to be polite
"Its cool! Good game yesterday!" Bailey said to us
"Thanks" I said "Well looks like we're finally hanging out!"
"Does this count as hanging out?" Kaycee questioned
"I mean what did you think hanging out would be? Like a date or something?" Josh joked
"N-no! It's just we all been in dance together for years but we don't know each other that well" Kaycee said
"Wait you've known each other for years but never hanged out?" Bailey asked us
"I mean me and Josh used to hang out all the time but us and Kaycee... nope" I said as excluding dance jobs we never spent time outside of school and dance class together
"To be fair you used to always hang out with Tati and Tahani" Josh added which I agreed with as those three were inseparable
"Wait... the best friends you said abandoned you was Tati but Tahani as well?" Bailey said more to Kaycee as me and Josh were confused
"Yeah..." Kaycee said looking sad
"I'm confused?" Josh said
"What's so confusing?" Bailey asked
"What do you mean abandoned? I remember Tahani complaining to me and Kida about you not replying to her texts" Josh said "This is back when I had to third wheel with those two"
"Kida?" Bailey asked
"Leon, Kida is his old nickname" I explained
"Sean broke my phone so I've been trying to message her through Twitter and Facebook!" Kaycee explained as I did break her phone on accident on the first day of school so she had no apps like snapchat and had to rely on computer messaging means like twitter for awhile
"Oh she's was texting you for like a week and assumed you gave up on her" Josh finished as Kaycee had a dumb look on her face
"Wait you're telling me you never spoke to her in person since the first day?" Bailey asked the same thought I had
"No, because we don't have any classes together and I spent the first week of lunch with you!" Kaycee said as she looked defeated
"You should explain yourself to her she should understand" I said
"But wait what happened between you and Tati?" Josh asked as we were now invested in this situation
"What happened to you and Julian?" Kaycee asked right back as it's now more clear to the general public that Julian and Josh have some form of beef
"We fight a lot so what's going on between you and Tati again?" Josh said downplaying the whole Julian situation
"She doesn't want to be seen with Kaycee anymore" Bailey answered for Kaycee
"That's... weird..." I said as I remembered how close those three used to be
"Exactly" she said
"But anyways you can talk to Tahani at the game tonight" I said as I noticed Tahani wasn't in the lunch room anymore
"There's another game?" Kaycee asked as we did just play yesterday
"It's junior varsity but the cheerleaders should still be there" Josh clarified for the two girls
"So I'm guessing you two won't be playing then" Bailey said
"I'm playing he's not... I'm going to get some juice" Josh said as he got up
"Is something wrong with him?" Bailey asked
"He and Julian had a little fight in the locker room about that last play so coach said for him to cool off and to play with the junior varsity team today" I said
"What's the issue it's just another game?" Kaycee questioned
"Well maybe but to put this in dance terms, Josh is an advanced dancer, you can debate whether he's better than you, me, Julian whoever but he's in that tier so playing with junior varsity is like if we were sent to a beginners class to show off" I said mostly to Kaycee
"Oh I get it!" Kaycee understood "It's like a demotion"
And Bailey understood that analogy better "Oh that sucks" she said
"Yeah but he's a tough kid he'll probably just have fun with it" I said
"Are you going to cheer him on? You know since you're best friends" Kaycee said as I hesitated to answer "Is there something going on between you two as well?"
"Kinda" Josh said as he sat down with his juice and gave us all candy
"Where did you get candy from?"
"I know people" he simply said as I took note of how Kaycee and Bailey devoured the candy "But yeah me and Sean fight a lot but I think we both understand where we both come from"
"Like?..." Bailey asked
"Like I know unlike Julian basketball is not the most important thing to him right now and is really interested in art and dancing right now so he doesn't get as invested as Julian does" Josh said
"I never told you that?!"
"Didn't need to we're best friends for a reason!" he said
"Yeah well I understand that Josh is a hardworker which can be stressful on him and everyone else around him and him joking is him relieving stress himself" I said
"I never told you that?" Josh said
"Didn't need to"
"Aw goals!" Kaycee and Bailey said mocking us
"Shut up this is my bro right here!" Josh said as we all laughed
"Well you boys seem to be alright guys so you have our permission to be our friends" Bailey said "The candy helped"
"Permission?"
"I mean not everyone can become our friends!" she continued
"I thought it was because they were losers?" Josh whispered to me which they heard and threw candy at him "Just kidding!"
"It would be our honor to be your friends!" I said as I extended my hand to Kaycee to shake and Josh did the same with Bailey
"Alright this is a start of a new friendship!" Kaycee said as the girls shook our hands making us all laugh at how silly this was
We continued talking to each other and getting to know each other better and it was honestly a lot of fun definitely a nice change of pace from hanging with the basketball team and cheerleaders all the time
Bailey seemed to be as funny if not funnier than Josh which is saying something
I finally see why people used to call Kaycee shy but I can tell she got more comfortable with us the longer we went on
"Anyways this weekend there's a festival and I was thinking of going you guys want to come?" I asked the three
"Is this your way of hanging out with me?" Kaycee said
"I mean I'm asking Bailey and Josh as well but if it's just you and me that's fine too"
"I would love too" Kaycee said as we shared a smile
"Should we leave and get you two a room?!" Bailey said making Josh laugh
"I'm all for being your wingman but I think we should leave you two alone tomorrow" Josh joked making Bailey laugh
"No! You both should come!" Kaycee said as she hugged Bailey signaling she wants her there as well
Josh shared a look with me as he doesn't want to get in the way but I nodded to say it was okay
"Alright" Josh said
"See you tomorrow then!" Bailey said to us three as the bell rang and we all went our separate ways well except me and Kaycee
"Why haven't I noticed we have the same schedule?" I said as Kaycee and I are in the A schedule
Julian is in the B schedule with others like Tati and Bailey
And Josh is in C with Tahani and Leon
"Maybe because you sit in the back and I sit in the front" Kaycee said
"Okay sit next to me today!" I suggested as I started to text Josh something
"Kay" she said
"That was easy..."
"Well it's not like the front is fun or anything and we don't have assigned seats" Kaycee said "And it's not like you're surrounded by a lot of people either"
True I mostly sit by myself as most of the team is in B and C
"Alright sounds good!" I said as it seems this class was going to be the most fun it has ever been now
