Beep. Beep. Beep.
I woke up to soft monotonous beeps beside me,
But I was surprised I even woke up in the first place.
So to say I was confused was an understatement.
My eyes fluttered open slowly but I screwed them shut again as a bright light shone down on me,
Immediately the light dulled.
When I opened my eyes Hayley stood next to where I lay, she wore her nurse scrubs and held her clipboard to her chest. She gave me a soft smile as she adjusted a complicated machine next to me, I furrowed my eyebrows. I was lying down on a hospital bed with an IV attached to my arm and a heart monitor beeping beside me.
"Hey" Hayley said softly, the smile still playing on her lips,
"H-" as soon as I opened my mouth I started coughing violently, my throat was parched and drained of any moisture. Hayley quickly grabbed a cup of water from the water dispenser in the corner of the room, she handed it to me and I drank it eagerly.
"Hi" I replied when I placed the cup on the bedside table to my left, "What happened?"
The smile left her lips and a frown settled instead. "I don't know much of what happened yesterday but according to the guys you were shot" she furrowed her eyebrows, "And you were transported to the hospital",
I nodded slowly, taking all this information in.
"We brought you here and you lost a lot of blood and severely weak so we hooked you up to the IV, they didn't know if you were going to make it through the night by how slow your heart was beating" she said softly and my eyes widened.
I could've died.
"And everyone else?" I asked impatiently,
"Everyone is okay, a bit of bruises and scratches but nothing too dramatic. Ethan needed stitches of his arm and Chase is on crutches for now, they're still treating a lot of patients".
I took a few deep breaths to calm my racing heart and I remembered every single detail of yesterday.
"Everyone's waiting outside, you up for visitors?" she asked and I shrugged. Hayley nodded and paused as the doorway before she left, "I'm glad you're okay" she said and I managed to give her a smile. Then she walked out shutting the door behind her.
I sunk down further in my bed and let out a loud sob as the weight of yesterday pressed down on my chest. Memories flooded back and I desperately wanted to burn them and never remember it again, but it was now something that would always stick with me.
Murderer.
I quickly wiped the tears that had fallen down my cheeks and sat up higher in my bed. I winced as I shifted my body but as the door clicked open to reveal Noah my thoughts vanished. His eyes were red and held dark circles under them, his cheeks were puffy and his hair was messy as ever. When he saw me he engulfed me in a hug as best as he good without hurting me,
"Fucking hell, Alex, I love you so much" he said as he kissed my forehead repeatedly. I couldn't find words to reply; I felt tears threaten to sting my eyes again.
"I'm so sorry" his voice was thick with emotion, "I'm so sorry I couldn't protect you, that all of this happened, that-",
I reached up and wiped a stray tear that had fallen down his cheek and once again he hugged me.
"W-what happened after yesterday?" I asked for more details. As helpful as Hayley was I was still as confused as ever, pieces of that night were missing and I was struggling to make sense of things.
"There's a stand in mayor for now, the city is grieving the loss of Mr. Kennedy, they're placing flowers and candles around his office... We've been pardoned by the police since we stopped Joseph... Elliot left- we told him never to come back here", I nodded.
Despite my surprise I understood why they spared his life, I knew Noah would have no problem shooting him right then and there after everything that he's done, but he did save them from Joseph and his men when they didn't let them go.
"Why'd he do it?" I asked quietly,
"Joseph double crossed him, he no longer had a share in the city- he knew he wasn't going to win so he needed an out and what better way than to save our lives?"
"So he double crossed the double crosser?"
Noah's lips twitched upwards in amusement and nodded.
"It's over," Noah whispered quietly, "We won, the city is safe".
We did it, we actually did it.
Suddenly a thought sprang to my mind, "Beth?" I questioned hopefully and a the small smile that was once on his face formed into a full blown grin.
"She's okay?" I asked,
"She's okay".
My heart leapt at the prospect of Elizabeth finally being able to be happy, for her to live normally.
"Want to go see her?" Noah questioned and I nodded quickly.
Five minutes later he came back with a wheelchair and helped me into it, Hayley frowned upon what we were doing, telling us that any other nurse would kill your for getting out of bed in my state but she let us anyway.
I'm not going to lie, that small distance even to the wheelchair was painful, I could barley move without wincing but I made it, it was going to take a while to heal. Right now that didn't matter though because I couldn't wait to see my sister.
Noah wheeled me out of the room and immediately a whole crowd of people surrounded me.
A crowd of people that I call my friends,
"Alex!"
"You're alive!"
"I'm so glad you're okay!"
I received a chorus of greetings and for the first time today I actually laughed. It wasn't a fake one but an actual genuine laugh that put a smile on everyone's faces.
But we were missing one person and that smile was immediately replaced by a frown. My heart beat was wild in my chest.
What if something happened to him?
"Where's Logan?" I asked, my mood deflating increasingly fast and Mia smirked at me,
"He's in Beth's room" Liam filled in for me, he had an arm slung around Hayley's shoulders.
I smiled gratefully at him as the weight in my chest lifted slightly and we all began moving towards Beth's room. Mia pushed the wheelchair this time and she bent down next to my ear and whispered, "You're so whipped",
I turned slightly to glare at her and she gave me an innocent smile.
The walk down the next few hallways was occupied by talk from everyone, they talked about everything and anything. It made me happy to see everyone else happy. Everything was finally okay.
We walked into Beth's room and I couldn't stay sitting any longer.
On shaky legs I stood up, everyone protested but I gave them a small smile through the pain to tell them I was okay. I used the side of Beth's bed to support myself.
She was sleeping. She looked so peaceful. I didn't want to disturb her. I leant down and gave a small kiss on her forehead, I was just really glad she was okay.
Everything was finally okay.
"Has she woken up yet?" I asked, Beth's bed dipping slightly as I took a seat on it since I could barely stand up.
They were all packed in the small hospital room and right in the middle of them was a uncomfortable looking chair, in that uncomfortable looking chair sat Logan. Dark circles ran under his eyes, his hair was messy and his clothes were wrinkled, but there she sat with his head thrown back. He was sleeping like a baby.
I sighed softly at the sight, he looked so freaking adorable.
"We should let him rest," I said and everyone nodded except Valentino,
"Nah" he said, walking over to Logan and abruptly punching his shoulder. Hard.
Logan woke up with a jolt as he sat up straight surveying his surroundings, his eyes landed on Valentino who gave him and innocent smile while we all snickered silently.
"You mother fu-" Logan stood up in his chair and grabbed Val by the collar,
"Okay- let's not do this here" Kasey said while walking in the middle of them, she cleared her throat and then nodded her head in my direction.
Logan's head snapped towards me and his eyes widened considerably.
In an instant he had left Val's collar and enveloped me in a hug as gently as he could, I hugged him back. I missed his touch.
"Let's give these two love birds a room shall we?" Dylan said, sending a wink my way. Everyone left the room; the last person was Noah who grunted before leaving. I snorted a little at that. That's my brother.
As soon as everyone left, Logan kissed me. Sparks erupted on my lips as he kissed me. When he pulled away he was smiling and somehow I found myself smiling with him.
Then his smile fell.
"I'm sorry for everything, I'm sorry for everything my dad did to you and not fighting harder to protect you I should've never-" I cut him off by kissing him again.
"Shut the hell up, honey" I whispered against his lips,
"Honey?" he smirked at me and I rolled my eyes.
The nickname kind of grew on me.
"Let's sit down," he said and I nodded as he helped me over to the wheelchair and pulled the hospital chair beside it.
"Are you okay?" I asked seriously and he looked at me bewildered,
"There you go again, asking stupid questions. I should be asking if you're okay-"
"Are you okay?" I asked again and he sighed,
"No" he admitted and I held his hand in mine, "I did just find out my dad killed my mom while she was still recovering from lung cancer",
I squeezed his hand.
"And he is dead now",
My eyes immediately darted to the floor, guilt flood through me like waves and I was drowning in it.
"I'm sorry," I say quietly, letting go of his hand, "I'm so sorry- I-I"
Then he retook my hand in his.
"Don't be" he said firmly, "If you hadn't... shot him then he would've killed you and I know who'd I'd prefer to be next to me right now- after everything that he's done. And besides, he'd be dead to me if he wasn't dead already".
I nodded slowly,
"Alexandra?"
"Yes?"
"What you did... I want you to know it's okay"
I stayed silent.
"I know what you're thinking- you think you're a murderer, but you're not okay? It was self-defense. If you didn't shoot him-"
I didn't reply.
"I don't think I could handle losing you".
I looked up to see his eyes, which were drowning in pools of tears and I quickly reached up to wipe them away, Logan took my hands that were outstretched and kissed the top of them. It might take me a while to accept, but I knew Logan would be right there next to me to help me through it.
Then he pulled me closer and kissed me, our lips moulded against each other and for the first time in a while I felt at peace.
"So everything is finally okay?" I asked once we pulled apart,
There was shuffling outside the window of the hospital and our eyes snapped towards it. There, peeking through the windows was Megan, Noah, Mia, Dylan, Kyle, Liam, Chase, Hayley, Ethan, Grayson, Vicky, Will, Valentino and Kasey. When we saw they looking through the blinds they quickly left as if they weren't even there in the first place.
Logan chuckled heartily before he turned back to me, "Yeah, everything is finally okay".
