"Hudson... you're hair."
Hudson grinned at me. "That was just like déjà vu!"
Hudson's hair had now returned to his original black color. All evidence of it being brown was gone. Hudson nodded his head and pulled out a strand looking at it before pushing pass me and into my house. I rolled my eyes, but let him come in anyways.
"I liked the brown, but I rather have black."
"Why did you dye it then?"
"So that 'prosecutor' person wouldn't recognize me. And it worked didn't it?"
"Hold on," I said, narrowing my eyes at him. "You knew he was going to be there?"
"In a way..." Hudson responded sheepishly.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I demanded, crossing my arms and glaring at him. "That would have saved me a nice bruise!"
"I didn't know where he was going to be, all I knew was that he was going to show up. Sorry, Willow."
I clicked my tongue at him. "You still could have at least warned me."
"I could have."
I turned to see Hudson chuckling to himself and I rolled my eyes. I would never depend on this guy for anything.
"What are you doing tonight?" Hudson asked, settling himself on my couch and taking off his shoes.
I watched him with a frown on my face. "Since when did I say you could make yourself at home at my house?"
Hudson grinned. "Oh come on, we're neighbors. We basically live together!"
"No we don't."
Hudson grinned faded slightly, but not all the way. "I let you make yourself at home in my apartment."
"I've never been in your apartment."
As I said that, the thought registered in my head. I actually had never been into Hudson's apartment. He came into mine all the time, but I've never been in his. He raised an eyebrow.
"Is your door unlocked?" I asked.
"Yeah... why?"
I twisted on my heel and ran for the door. I heard Hudson get off the couch and start running after me. I winged open my door and shut it in Hudson's face, quickly jumping over to his door. I grabbed the handle and pulled hard. To my surprise, instead of the door opening, I was falling. I landed on my butt hard.
I looked at my hand and made a face. It was covered with black stuff.
My door opened and Hudson stopped when he saw me on the ground and started laughing. I scowled at him and wiped my hands on my pants.
"What the heck is on your door handle?" I demanded, pushing myself to my feet.
"Oil. I was fixing my car earlier," Hudson told me, still slightly chuckling.
"Shut up," I muttered, walking back to his door and getting a firmer grasp on the handle.
I pulled the door open, but only got about four inches before Hudson shut it with his hand, the oil making my hand slip off the knob. I turned and glared at him.
"You come in my house all the time! Let me in yours!"
"Nope," he responded with a smirk. "It's top secret in there."
"Whatever." I turned on my heel and started towards my house. There was no way I was getting in when Hudson was there and the doorknob was slick.
Hudson started to follow me and I turned and raised an eyebrow.
"Don't you have a prediction to break?"
"Nope, already did it!" he responded, pumping his arm in the air. "Good thing we didn't have school today otherwise I would have had to skip."
"Fun."
Hudson raised an eyebrow. "Lately you've been kind of bitchy."
I froze. Did he really just say that? I turned to him and glared. "Are you implying something?"
"No, no!" Hudson responded quickly, waving his hands in front of him. "I was just saying."
Had I been being bitchy lately? It didn't seem to me that way... or maybe I have. "I'm sorry."
"There's no need to apologize, everyone's like that sometimes," Hudson told me with a shrug. "It's no problem."
I took a deep breath and counted to ten before letting it out. Hudson was a bit frustrating sometimes. But he was probably right. I felt as though I was being more bitchy than usual lately. I'd have to try and stop that.
"Are you coming back in?" I asked him, standing by my door. "It'll only be for a little bit because I have to go grocery shopping later."
Hudson raised an eyebrow. "What is with you and your obsession to go out at night?"
"I wasn't planning on it, but the paper for English is taking longer than usual," I told him, gesturing him into my apartment and than shutting the door behind us.
"You're already starting that English paper?"
"Yep," I responded, going back to my laptop and sitting down. "I'm going to go shopping at that mall tomorrow and I don't want to have to do this on Sunday."
"Sounds like a boring Friday night for a high school student," Hudson commented, raising an eyebrow.
I shrugged. "I never do much anyway."
"Why not?"
I gave him a look.
"Oh."
He laughed and so did I. Breaking out predictions was like a full time job. Only you didn't get paid. It would be nice if we got paid though, because I was running low on money.
Hudson turned on the T.V and I went back to my draft. After about an hour, I was done and Hudson was asleep on the couch. I smiled slightly to myself. He was really cute when he was asleep. Not that he wasn't cute in the first place; he just looked cuter while asleep.
I debated waking him up, but decided against it. He could stay while I went grocery shopping. I wrote him a quick note telling him where I had gone and placed it on the remote beside him. I locked the door and I was on my way.
It took about thirty minutes to get downtown and I regretted not waking Hudson up so we could take his car. I'd have to carry my groceries home. Which meant I could only get a light load and I'd have to go back the next day in a Taxi or Hudson's car. Preferably the latter because I didn't want to have to pay for a Taxi, hence why I was walking now.
I went into the grocery store just as it was getting dark out. Yay. Now I had to walk home in the dark.
"At least it's not raining," I muttered to myself, grabbing a basket.
I went to the meat isle to get some chicken. I figured Hudson would be staying for dinner so I bought enough for the both of us. I moved onto the vegetables and than grabbed some chips and dip. We could have water for drinks.
I made my way back to the front of the store and to my luck, found an open register. I placed my stuff on the counter and groaned when I looked outside. It was absolutely pouring. To the point of no visibility.
The cashier laughed. "It's going to be a tough walk to the car."
I looked sadly at her with another sigh. "I think you mean home."
"Oh, that sucks," she responded, shaking her head. "How far is the walk?"
"About half an hour."
She let out a low whistle. "I'm sorry about that."
"I am too," I responded and she laughed.
"Your total is $11.67."
I handed her a twenty and she gave me my change. She loaded all the groceries into one bag and handed it to me. I thanked her and made my way to the exit. I wasn't even wearing a hood.
After a few moments of hesitation I forced myself out of the store and into the rain. Immediately it got in my eyes and I had to shut them. I rubbed the water out of them and, head down, continued on my way. Crossing the street was difficult. I couldn't see the cars, only the headlights and still that was hard to see. I through all caution to the wind and ran across the street.
I passed an ally and paused for a second. An ally would keep the rain away for the most part. But allies for girls at night were dangerous, so I decided against it. I stayed on the main road as the rain continued to pound down. I stayed away from the road as far as possible just in case a car went out of control or something.
When I came to the short cut back to my house I turned down the little covered bridge. I rested for a second in the shelter from the rain. I could still barely see anything because it was a pitch-black night. I made my way to the other side of the tunnel and prepared myself to exit.
"Would you like an umbrella?"
I jumped violently, my heart jumping into my throat. I twisted around and saw a shape on the other side of the tunnel, holding out an umbrella. I couldn't see the person's face but judging by the sound of the voice, I guessed it was a guy.
"I'm good," I told the guy, turning back around.
"Emmery, just take it."
I turned around again, curious now. How did this guy know my name? Was it a friend from school? The guy held out the umbrella further and I went closer, trying to see who he was.
I reached out my hand for the umbrella, but instead of getting it, his hand shot out and grabbed mine, pulling me closer to him. I stumbled forward in shock and hit his chest. His other hand quickly dropped the umbrella and chicken winged me.
"Ow!" I cried, trying to get out of his grasp. "What are you doing? Let me go!"
"I don't think so, Emmery."
I looked up now and my blood turned cold. I did indeed know this guy. He was the prosecutor guy! He pulled my arm tighter and I cried out again.
"Be quiet," the guy demanded.
"You're going to break it!" I told him, looking at him in outrage. "Be quiet? Let me go! Why should I be quiet?"
"I'm warning you."
"Let go!" I screamed, kicking my feet at him. "What do you want?"
The man heaved a sigh. "I really was hoping I wouldn't have to resort to this..."
"Resort what?"
My question was answered when I felt something hard hit the back of my head. The man let me go and I staggered backwards, pain blinding me. Everything spun and I tried as hard as I could to stay consciousness. I was losing. Soon I fell to the ground, the sounds of the world fading and my vision turning black.
