Rei POV
It's cold...
What's going on?
So dark...
I opened my eyes slowly. Darkness surrounded me, enveloped me, cradled me like I was a little baby in the expansed dark abyss. Winter air that swept over the ocean nipped at my bare skin.
It was hard to describe how I feel. I felt like I was underwater, sinking deeper and deeper. I hugged myself, allowing the gravity to pull me down the never-ending waters. Shivering, I curled myself into a ball, suddenly aware of my white fluffy tail and ears. This is new. Is it a new transformation?
What actually happened?
I closed my eyes, thinking hard, trying to remember the past events that happened to me. But everything was a hazy blur. I could vaguely remember someone staring up at me, his beautiful electric blue orbs filled with fear.
Those electric blue orbs...
How attractive...
An image slowly formed in my head. First it was the colour of skin, and I immediately knew it was a person. A very familiar person. I just couldn't put my finger on why he or she seemed familiar.
Then pointed ears were sketched. It was as if there was a pencil tracing and colouring a blurry photo from the back of my mind. I did not bother the process, instead I pushed it to continue.
As the navy blue hair was drawn, I could identify the person as a boy. I desperately tried to reach out to the picture. Something was itching at the very back of my mind. It was like that person was someone important I could not forget.
The nonexistent pencil danced to draw the eyes, which were closed and formed into a semi-circle. His pointed nose and high cheekbones that were all sketched thoroughly defined his handsome looks. It was a detailed portrait like what you'd see in the art museum.
Finally, lips were slowly spreading across his lower face, completing the smiling face. His mouth was tilted upwards into a toothy grin, his canine teeth standing out the most. His smile was so reassuring, like he was telling me: it's okay. You don't have to be afraid.
Realisation then dawned on me. I opened my mouth to call his name, but only bubbles came out. Just then, streaks of light penetrated throught the thick ice above, blinding me a little. Desperate, I swam towards it and stretched out my hand in attempts of reaching it faster. White light blinded me and everything disappeared.
Rin.

Third Person's POV
Light landed on Rei's closed eyelids, stinging them as she opened them slowly. A white ceiling stared back at her and the humming of the air-conditioner and fan greeted her ears. Memories of last night's event flooded into her head. Rei sat up with a gasp and immediately, a migraine followed.
She began to cough and pant, her dry throat hurting. In an instance, a presence she had never noticed was beside her, a glass of water shoved in front of her. She swiped at it and gulped it down without a second thought. A hand rubbed her back in circles, giving her comfort.
The coughs finally reduced to slight wheezing. Rei's eyes studied her condition. She was clad in her clothes she had worn when she went to sleep. She was in an unfamiliar room and a blanket was thrown onto her. Normally, she would have felt panicked, but the familiar warmth beside her reassured her.
She collapsed back onto the fluffy pillows, both physically and mentally drained of energy. She weakly turned her head to meet worried blue orbs. Rin stood beside her bed, worries plastered all over his face which was unusual for his cheerful personality.
"Rin..." she croaked out.
That one word was enough for Rin. Relief washed over his face as he hugged her tightly, crushing her ribcage. Apparently, he didn't hold back on his superb demon strength.
"R-Rin, I can't-breathe-" she gasped out. Rin quickly released her and apologised. "I'm sorry, Rei! Are you all right?" he fretted over her. She held up a hand. "I-I'm fine...just calm down..." she muttered between heavy breaths. Rin frowned a little at her fragile state, but obeyed and sat down quietly.
Finally when the panic fiasco was over, Rei asked. "What... happened to me last night? After I fainted? Where am I?"
"... After you fainted, I woke up. You had transformed into a wolf and attacked me. You are now in the HQ's clinic room."
"What? Are you hurt?" She scanned his body and luckily, no bandage was seen. Rin smiled and shook his head. "I'm fine. You can't remember anything that happened?" he asked. Rei plopped back down, a frown etched into her forehead, trying hard to remember. Finally, she gave up and shook her head. "...No."
"Is that so...?"
Rei sighed. "I'm in trouble, aren't I?" "Yeah." Was Rin's short reply.
Awkward silence pervaded the room. After a minute, Rei opened her mouth to speak when the door flung open. A doctor, accompanied by Yukio and another exorcist strutted in. Rin stood up from his seat, on guard. But the doctor ignored him and went to tend his patient. He began bombarding questions like: "How do you feel?" "Does it hurt?" "Are you afraid of needles?"
Rin turned to a calm Yukio who watched the doctor. "Yukio. What's the latest news?" Before Yukio could answer, the doctor abruptly turned to them and shooed Rin and the other exorcist out of the door. "Excuse me, but I need to run a few test on her. Please leave the room. Now shoo! Scram!"
Rin was pushed out of the door. He turned to protest but the door slammed shut in his face. He groaned and sat on the chair prepared in defeat. The other young exorcist, around age 20, just stood there, his face pulled into an expressionless one. Finally noticing him, Rin looked at him.
"So, is Rei going to be in trouble?" He asked casually. Out of all possible answers, the reply he got was not what he expected:
The exorcist's eyebrows pulled into a 'v' and his lips turned down into a sneer. "Don't talk to me, you half-breed." Rin was dumbstruck. "Excuse me?"
The exorcise continued. "Do you think, just because you are the twin of Mr. Okumura, a prodigy among us youngsters, that you have the rights and authority to question us? If I were you, I'd rather watch my back instead of worrying over something that will- I apologise, is already dead."
Rin furrowed his eyebrows. Ah, this is a cocky one, I guess? He thought. Even though his classmates accepted him, that didn't mean the whole Vatican had accepted him. The majority who didn't accept him were those "know-it-all" youngsters. Rin didn't bother about them, but talking bad about Rei somehow stirred the fire in him.
"I don't know why the Vatican even let a creature like you roam free in public, let alone that monster-"
A hand grabbed his throat and slammed him onto the wall, a deafening bang resounding across the hallway. Cracks webbed the once smooth wall. The young exorcist remained expressionless, however. People from each rooms lining the corridor opened their doors to peek at the cause of the racket in the hallway.
Rin was using all his willpower not to crush the young exorcist's windpipe rigth there and then. Anger surged within his as he felt his body grow hot. If he killed an exorcist in public, he would immediately be dragged to be executed before he can fulfil his dream.
"Hm, showing your true colours, I see? Like master like dog, now all that's left for you is for everyone to see your little hound-" He gasped as fingers tightened themselves around his throat, making him unable to breathe properly. He began clawing in desperate attempts to free himself. When he glanced at Rin, what he saw actually scared him.
Rin's eyes were glowing in anger, amd veins were visibly pulsing on his forehead. His other fist were clenched so hard the knuckles turned white. A light blue glow surrounded him. For the first time, the exorcist truly understood the fear for Satan.
"You can say whatever you like about me, but never say anything about Rei in front of my face," he growled, strength and voice both increasing. "You don't know a single shit about her!" His voice reverberated throughout the hallway, and a few exorcist began rushing towards him.
Rin was ready to give the exorcist a good punch across the face as he rose his balled fist. Anger blinded the screams around for him to cease action and all sorts of reasoning for him to remain his moral value.
Just then, two arms wrapped across his chest and jerked him backwards. Only a familiar voice entered his ears in all the cacophonious echoes. "Stop."
He whipped around to see albino white hair blocking his view. "Rei, let me go," He warned in a low tone. She shook her head.
"Not until you stop."
"This asshole talked trash about you!"
"I know! It's fine! Just please, don't get yourself into trouble just for someone who insulted me."
Her tone was so soft and begging, Rin finally gave in. He released the young exorcist and he collapsed on the ground into a coughing fit, holding his neck that had bruises shape of fingers as air filled his lungs once again. A few doctors immediately went to treat him.
Rei slowly let go of Rin and turned him around. His bangs shadowed his expression, but Rei could tell he was pissed.
The crowd gathering around them were confused by the presence of someone new. They had not seen her in the headquarters before. Yukio squeezed through the crowd to get a better look at what was happening.
Rei lightly brushed her hand against his bangs, causing Rin to lift his head and looked at her. She smiled. "Thank you."
Rin was dumbfounded. For the first time, a genuine smile containing so many emotions was shown, and only he could see the meaning through it. Sadness, happiness, frustration, loneliness- and many others he couldn't list finish. Then he realised, he actually knew nothing about her.
"NII-SAN!"
Both of them jumped and shakily turned around to face a furious Yukio. They gulped. Oh, now they had done it.
*tiem skippu to half an hour later*
Yukio plopped down on a chair and sighed tiredly. Rin and Rei were on their knees, heads down in humiliation. The exorcist that Rin attacked was standing beside Yukio, arms crossed and scowling at the both of them. Everyone was amused by the reaction of Lucifer's Pet and Satan's Son after getting reprimanded by Yukio.
"You're lucky the Vatican decided to forgive you, Nii-san. Your actions will be taken lightly as you saved the whole of Kyoto from the Impure King-"
Rin perked up.
"However, punishment will still be issued. No mangas for a month."
"WHAT?!" Rin sprang up and began crying crocodile tears. "But that is even worse than being thrown into a cell!"
Yukio ignored him and turned to Rei. "Rei, I'm sorry, but they will have to quarantine you for the time being until the Grigory decides to take further action."
Rei jumped up at this. "What?! So you want me to sit there and do nothing?!" she growled and advanced towards Yukio. "I'm telling you, it's not my fault!" At this, all surrounding exorcists took out their weapons and aimed them at Rei. Yukio calmly pushed up his glasses. "I suggest that if you value your life, you better sit down and obey us."
Rin watched, helpless as Rei was pinned to the ground and her hands cuffed behind her. Reluctantly, she obeyed their commands, one of them shoving at her to 'Hurry the hell up'. As result, Rei snapped at him and she whipped on the legs. Rin tried to shove through the crowd but Yukio held him back.
"Nii-san, please do it for Rei."
As the upper exorcist brought her to the cells, Yukio led Rin away back to the dorms, where he would patiently wait for the outcome of Rei's fate.
