Note: There's like three characters' POVs in this chapter. They're all labelled so I hope there won't be any confusion. ~ My
~ [Mason] ~
Everything in my life suddenly didn't matter anymore as this irreplaceable girl in my arms pulled me closer and closer. I could smell her intoxicating scent and while I was happy hitching my breath to keep kissing her, I was also tempted to inhale the swirls of her rosy fragrance and commit it to memory.
She was making sounds that did inexplicable things to my body, sending chills down my spine and involuntary noises from my throat. The skin of her back felt so good against my fingertips and as I urged for her to come closer, she responded by thrusting herself against me, making me hope for things I shouldn't. At least not now. Not this soon.
I wanted to savor every moment with her. While I knew her for a long time, I also haven't really seen her for a whole year. It was the worst year of my life.
Once I had met a girl like Evelyn, there really was no turning back. She's so difficult to explain, even now as she had clearly changed into this confident woman. There's always been a shyness about her that I found adorable, masked by an I don't give a fvck attitude, coated in a neutral existence.
She never fought anyone over anything because she didn't care what others thought, which always bothered me because everyone always had plenty of things to say about her, despite knowing so little about her.
The shyness was there all the time, building an invisible wall around her, and it was the reason I didn't get to speak to her until the end of sophomore year. But when I finally did, it was like putting on eyeglasses for the first time, or finally having clear sinuses for the first time. She was that breath of fresh air that brought color to my life, the clear rainbow after a cloudy rainstorm.
~[Flashback]~
"Hey," Liam greeted me with his usual dumb grin that always made me return, "so this is Evelyn. Apparently, IF you're close enough, you can call her Ev."
The girl was half a foot shorter than Liam and me, but her presence in my view was all consuming. She had light skin that looked really soft to touch, but I wasn't going to be THAT creep. Her hair was a beautiful dark brown that fell in muted waves down her back, shining healthily under the sun rays. Her eyes were on her hands, which were fidgeting adorably, but as she looked up at me, I was taken aback by the way her dark lashes lined her stunningly bright green eyes. She's absolutely gorgeous.
She rolled her eyes at him and turned to me to reluctantly offer her hand for me to shake. Who could look that good while rolling their eyes? I've seen girls do that and look possessed. I took her hand and instead of shaking, I pulled her in for a short lived embrace. As I pulled away, I noticed her wide eyes and it made me smirk.
"Can I call you Ev yet?" I asked shamelessly.
"No, I wasn't even told your name yet," she countered with a knowing smile. She hadn't said anything suggestive, but her tone seemed flirty. God, I hope she's flirting with me.
"I'm Mason," I told her with a chuckle. Her smile is so pretty.
"Would you like it if I, a stranger, called you Macy?" she asked me teasingly.
"Sure," I answered, surprisingly calm. "If you let me call you Ev. Macy's a pretty name and I'm a pretty boy. I'll let a pretty girl call me a pretty name any day." I smirked at her again and this time my flirting felt a bit more brazen.
She blushed slightly before answering, "Fine. You can call me Ev. But I'm not calling Macy. I don't befriend department stores."
She walked off to her locker and left me standing in awe of her. I didn't even notice Liam standing next to me, but I knew that he was just as quiet as I was, watching her stroll off like she didn't just shake my heart into awareness. I'm awake now, and I have no idea what to do to stay by her side.
~[Real Time]~
She pulled away from me, hands still around the back of my neck. We stared at each other for a moment, taking in the blissful exchange we just had. I wanted so badly to kiss her again, but I couldn't stop staring into her eyes. Those beautiful green orbs looked through me, making my heart throb.
We were both panting heavily as I pulled her into my chest. I hoped she could feel my heart beating rapidly. I was an open book for her now, and I wanted to let her know the full extent of how I felt for her, how I've always felt for her.
"Wow," she breathed into my chest, making me chuckle lightly.
"Yeah," I answered breathlessly, "So..."
"So... what now?" she asked as she pulled back and stared questioningly into my eyes. I wanted to melt at the sight of her beautiful face.
I smiled at her, happy that she was finally in my arms, after all this yearning. "Please go out on a date with me on Wednesday after class?"
She nodded with a grin and I leaned back down to kiss her gently. I took her hand in mine and squeezed it, lingering my grasp on her as I started taking steps away. We gazed at each other playfully before I finally let go to head back home.

~ [Liam] ~
I woke up to the sound of keys being jumbled and I lifted my head from the back of the sofa to see Mason walking in looking a bit dazed.
"Mason?" I said groggily, rubbing my eyes. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," he responded, staring at nothing with a dumb grin on his face.
"Uh, not nothing," I pressed, now a little more awake. "What happened, man?"
"I kissed her."
"What?" I raised my voice a little.
"And she kissed me." He lifted his hand to rest his fingertips on his lips.
Oh.
I knew I should feel happy for my best friend, that he finally got to be with the girl he's been in love with since high school, but I can't ignore the waves of disappointment crashing into my chest. My breaths shortened and it took me all my willpower to plaster the half smile on my face.
"That's great, buddy," I said with encouragement, but I could feel my heart sinking.
"I'm taking her out on a date Wednesday," he told me excitedly.
"Oh?" I raised my brows, "So I guess guys' night is out of the question."
"Oh, sh!t, sorry, man. I'll buy drinks next time we hang out."
I pulled out my phone and opened the texting conversation I had with Harper. For a brief moment on our last date, she had helped me forget about Evelyn. We had gone to Downtown Disney and did everything I had done with Ev. I didn't mean to put myself through that torture, but the mention of the place sent Harper over the moon, so I brought her there. Everything hurt, the stroll, the candied apples, the fireworks...
But that kiss at the end of the night gave me so much hope. For a brief moment, as the fireworks exploded above us, Harper had brushed her lips across mine and managed to take me away from it all. I felt drunk on her kiss and the feeling was so liberating that I pulled her in for a goodnight kiss as I dropped her off.
Ev was moving on, not that she was ever stuck on me in the first place. It's just that now, she's my best friend's girl, officially. I will never, ever have a chance with her.
Me: Hey Harper. Let's set that next date for Wednesday. (:
"Nice," Mason whispered as he looked over my shoulder at my text with a smile. "Look at us, both having dates this Wednesday." He looked so proud and giddy, I had to grin back. He's had my back since day one and I won't let my own heartbreak stand in the way of his happiness.
I shut off the display on my phone and caught my own reflection on the screen. Holding my phone closer, I saw the drawings on my face. "What the FVCK."
Mason held his stomach as he fell onto his couch laughing at me.
"Oh, ha-ha." I drawled sarcastically as I made my way to the bathroom. I stared at myself in the giant mirror and saw the little message on my forehead with the arrow down my nose. It was Ev's handwriting. "You guys are fvcking twelve!" I yelled through the ajar door and heard Mason continue cracking up.
Ev's always been hilarious and this sort of thing should have been expected on my part, though, to be fair, I hadn't seen her in a long time.
I still loved her, though. That hasn't changed.
But it has to now.

~ [Evelyn] ~
"You have no idea how excited I am for you!" Harper squealed as she ran her fingers across all the dresses on the rack. "We're gonna make you look so fucking hot, Mason's d!ck will need a wheelchair."
"Harper, oh my god, shut up! There are other people in here!" I pressed my index finger against my puckered lips to shush her. I saw a mother and her kid in this store several minutes ago, and I was worried they would hear her.
"Oh, honey, we're standing right by the lingerie section. If there's anyone here listening in, I'm sure they've screamed worse things in bed."
I raised an eyebrow at her as if I didn't know what she was talking about. That was my mistake.
"Oh, you know," she started gesturing her hand on the air, "Things like 'oh daddy, fvck me harder' or 'oh yeah, baby you suck it best.' Things like that." She shrugged.
I narrowed my eyes at her and pointed out, "Those are all things you've said and heard in the bedroom."
I used to freak out when she told me about her sexual adventures, but it got exciting after a while. She was always so daring, so willing to live her life to the fullest. Some of her experiences have come out to seem so vulgar, but secretly, I wished I could live like her.
"That's right, girlfriend, and don't you forget it," she winked at me with a smirk on her lips.
"I'm not aiming for anything sexy, Harp. Mason texted me saying we might do things that are a bit more active, so no dresses or heels," I informed her while frowning at the skimpy dress in her hands.
"Girl, you'll look sexy in anything. We both will. We're hot as hell." She licked her finger and pointed it at her butt as she made a tsssss sound.
I frowned at her, waiting for a proper response.
Sighing, she admitted defeat, "Fine. We'll ditch the skanky section and try out the cutie section." I happily walked with her to the side with more casual dresses and tops.
By the time we walked out of the store, I had purchased three items: A beige spaghetti-strap tank top with a laced neckline, a pair of light blue distressed jean shorts, and a black and red plaid flannel that I planned to wear over the tank top. I planned on wearing my dark pair of Converse under all this.
Harper decided to take the romantic approach, pink lace dress that hugged her body casually. She looked so pretty. Liam will love it.
Liam...
Internally rolls eyes and sighs in frustration while groaning.
We sat at the food court, studying the people around us. We always loved doing that, especially because there were always some REALLY weird people walking around here. One time, we were just talking and then we saw a woman walking by with a tail, yes a tail spilling from her shorts. And no, it was not attached to the butt of her bottoms. It was inside her shorts, spilling out from the waistband. So... yeah. Do with that what you will.
We were nibbling on our shared fries and as I turned to look at other people, I froze as I noticed a familiar head of blonde hair. What's up with seeing so many of these people from my past?
"What? What is it?" Harper asked me as she noticed my wide eyes blinking at something to my left.
"Grace Bigg."
"Where?" I pointed for her to see. "Oh my god. She's walking over here. Don't look at her!"
"What do I do, what do I do?" I started panicking. I hate seeing people I knew from high school in public.
"Think of something you think she would hate and do it," Harper advised before she went back to nonchalantly chewing on a fry.
I did the same and as I felt a looming presence to my side, I turned to face Grace Bigg, grown up and still looking as bitchy as the day she spouted bullshit into my ear in the girl's bathroom.
"Evelyn? Evelyn Martinez? Is that you?" she asked with a weird smug look on her face. Like she's better off than I am. Like she's won at life.
"Yes," I said calmly with a (fake) questioning look, "That's me."
"Oh my god, I haven't seen you in forever!" She rested a hand on my arm as she squealed for no good reason. "And to think, last year everyone wondered if you left the state because neither Mason nor Liam went to prom."
Her statement surprised me, but not enough for me to lose my act.
"I-I'm sorry, I don't think I know you," I told her, sounding as sorry as I could pretend to be.
"What? It's me," she said, sounding irritated, "Grace Bigg. Remember?"
I shook my head.
"But you are Evelyn Martinez?"
I nodded confidently.
"And you don't remember me? Grace Bigg?"
I shook my head again.
"I was the president of the whole fvcking student government, how could you not remember me?"
I shrugged at her with a sorry look on my face.
With a frustrated sigh, she walked away and I knew I had just hurt her self-esteem. Good. I knew she loved the limelight, and I knew she liked being known. It was just how she was. She exuded confidence that was only there because people knew her. And because she thought people liked her.
"Oh my god, that was freaking amazing!" Harper exclaimed. I nodded with a satisfactory smile.
"So I've been meaning to bring this up again..." I said with a little hesitance. "Listen, Harp, if you ever feel like you're actually liking Liam, which honestly, I mean you should by now, then you can absolutely scrap the whole Operation D!ckbag's Heartbreak thing."
That was when I saw it. I saw her reluctance to respond, and I saw the resolution that she used to have for the plan vanish, only to be replaced by a look of self-disappointment. Then, just as quickly as it appeared, it went away.
"No," she said firmly. "I said I'd do this and I will do it."
I nodded at her, but I knew that this plan was breaking apart.
She's falling for him.
A/N:
Hey guys! I'm sorry that there were like three different POVs in this chapter. It's because they were each too short and I didn't want short chapters. I mean, even with this whole chapter it's a bit short compared to the previous. Whatever I'm here for my passion of writing, not my incessant need to be consistent.
Mason's so cute! Right? Everyone loves him right now because he's perfect. And I promise you he really is. There are no lies on his part... yet. Same with Liam. He's great and I'll put more flashbacks in so you'd understand how close he had gotten with Ev. We're all human and we're all bound to make mistakes. Just you wait!
I hope you liked this chapter! I'm starting on the next one as soon as I post this! Please vote and comment on my story and I'll love you forever!~
