There's nothing we can do about it.
There are certain things Dale wished never happened, for example; her condition. Her, leaving the man she loved with nothing but pain and sadness. There are a lot of things she wanted to wish for, but Dale knew how impossible for it to happen. She glanced at Tanner, and then back at the road. She also wished she could give back what Tanner is doing for her, but Dale just couldn't do it.
Her heart belonged to someone else.
Dale could hear Tanner nagging about how incompetent her doctors were. But as to if she agrees, she don't. She knew better than to blame it to her doctors, Dale knew how far off the deep end she is with her illness. She knew better than to feel sad about it.
Endings are inevitable.
Hers was fast-approaching also.
"I'll stay with you tonight." Tanner said, shutting off the engine in the process. Dale shook her head as a response. He couldn't know about the reunion later, God forbid he wouldn't let her go. "I'll be fine, T."
"No, Dale. Doctors orders." He finalized, opening her other side of the car. She sighs.
She knew how stubborn Tanner can be, a complete opposite to his twin brother. Dale met him a while back, and was the first one to know about her condition when he saw her in the hospital he was in on that time. Since then, Tanner kept on visiting her.
Until he came clear.
She stared at Tanner who was getting her apparatuses out of his trunk. She wished she wouldn't be so unfair to Tanner. To give him the love he deserved. Instead, he was stuck to a person who's heart belonged to someone else. Dale knew she was being unfair, but no matter how much she force herself to love him after all the things he'd sacrificed for, she just can't love him.
"I prefer to be alone tonight, Tanner." She stated as both of them went inside the elevator. Tanner sighed, but nodded. Dale had her head hung low as she knew how hurt he must've been. But her guilt for him was over-powered with her need to see Edward again. She sighed, and both stood in awkward silence as the elevator goes up.
"Just call me again if something happens, Dale." Tanner's voice sounded defeated. Dale knew how he felt, she nods and gave him a peck on the cheek, hoping it'll suffice to the pain he's feeling. He gave her a small smile in return and left her to herself. She thought it would be best to plan her outfit for tonight, or even contact some of her past mates, Marco or Fenech, at least.
She had a million possibilities running in her head. The text she recieved from him made her heart flutter again, and she felt her face heat up. All of a sudden, Dale was back in college again with her best friend she loved. She was feeling the same things back then. Edward still had some kind of effect on her. It was ridiculous, to be fair.
Yes. I'll be coming.
Dale almost erupted in nervousness as she sent the text meant for him. She threw her phone across the room and tried to sort out her outfit for tonight. Back in London, she tried to change herself. Her personalities, her clothes, her hair, just because the Dale people knew wasn't the same. That with her spark and drive, the old Dale died as well. She was different. A whole awful lot.
She was getting out of her nth dress as she heard her phone blast an un-familiar tune. Dale hitched a breath as she stumbled upon Edward's caller ID on her phone screen.
"Hello? Dale...?"
Dale froze. Hearing his voice for the first time in a long time was music to her ears. Oh how Dale wished to hear his voice, over and over again. But she didn't speak, and let him do the talking. After a few seconds, Dale started to hear his muffled cries.
"Is this really you? Where the hell have you been, Dale?" Dale could feel the pain in his voice. She tried to stop the tears from flowing out of her eyes but she can't. His sobs on the other line isn't helping at all.
"I... I tried looking for you. I... I was scared. Terrified, even." He continued. Edward was sobbing now, and Dale was, too. Dale felt her heart shatter into million pieces, and she can feel that he feels the same too. She was about to croak out a response but he spoke again.
"Dale.. talk to me... please. Just let me hear your voice." He pleaded, his voice hoarse from his cries. Dale sighed.
"I'm sorry, Edward..." Her knees were trembling. Dale's heart couldn't take it much longer as she starts to suffocate and grasp for air, falling to her mountain of dresses in the process. She sobbed as Edward did too, on the other line.
"I've missed you so much, twin."
Dale breathed in, swallowing a few pills. She ended the call right after she started getting nauseous. Her heart and her mind couldn't take the sudden confrontation.
What hurts her more than his sobs were the fact that he isn't mad at her for leaving him without an explanation or a letter. The fact that he had this urge to tell her he missed her after all this time. After all the things she admitted was wrong and dumb.
After all this time, Edward?
